My mom gave me her really old wooden clarient. It is in good/bad shape(A bit of both.) It needs like, $2000 worth of work. I'd say it needs new keys if that is possible, and definately new pads and corks. It doesn't even play right now because of all the missing pads.

Well, my question is, how good of a clarinet would it be if I got it fixed up. I don't want to sped all that money to fix up a clarient that is a piece of crap anyway.
It is a french Hormandy clarient, older then 1969. I'm not sure exactly how old, but it has been passed through my family on my mom's side until her, the fourth of fifth out of 6 kids. She kept it until now, and gave it to me. because of its age and family history, I would never sell it, but I would love to play it if it is worth it.

Please, if anyone knows how good it is or a site where I can find out, please tell me! It would be greatly appreciated.

it depends on where you live to find a good store to fix it up. my mom gave me her old clarinet and it needed some work but it works fine now. pellegrino, C I C, or if lentine's music is still around where u are they should be able to tell you if it is fixable and give you an estimate of how much it will be. idk about the spelling of the store names- please correct me if they are wrong. good luck!! biggrin

Wht is C I C? Otherwise, never heard of any of those. Around me there is Beavers Band Box, Instrumental Music and Chicago Music Stores. There are a couple others but I don't know where they are.

I would personally get a new one. A Clarinet is cheaper than $2000, so why not just get a new one?

I have three, including this one. The thing is, this clarinet is really special because it has been passed down through my family. Everyone older then my mom has played it. I want to be able to do the same, adn keep it going for many more generations. This clarinet just being my clarinet isn't good enough for me if the clarinet is good enough to use. That is why I want to fix it up.
