Quote:
The rain had yet to let up, and I had a poor defense against the cold droplets. My umbrella had been the victim of a mischievous act back at home and now... I sighed while shaking my head. No thanks to the umbrella I now had damp spots scattered around my shirt. "Great..." I muttered while shaking the umbrella out, snapping it shut once most of the water was off. At least there's no spots against my chest to make it look like I'm lactating again. God that day was embarrassing. I thought back while leaning the umbrella against the wall. It would be safe there, and if anyone stole it they'd be in for a surprise.

Stepping onto the welcome mat I made sure to wipe off the bottom of my shoes. Last thing I had to do was walk across the floor, slip, and give some random scientist a clear shot up my skirt. Being accident prone I wouldn't be surprised if it did in fact happen. What on earth made me wear a skirt today?! I asked myself while walking towards the reception desk , though as I grew closer I noticed no one was there.

"Excuse me." I called politely as I reached the desk, giving a small glance around. Ooook. Now what? No one was at the front desk... Lifting my hand I began to chew on my nail wondering if the place was closed. But if it was closed then wouldn't the front door have been locked?

I leaned against the desk and placed my other hand upon it. Not a moment later I began to drum my finger nervously. Perhaps I came at the wrong time? That had to be it! I was too early! To confirm my assumption I reached down for the pocket watch I always carried and checked the time. Nope. I was actually late!

Frowning, I replaced the watch the pocket of my skirt and felt my forehead scrunch in thought. Should I leave and come back another day? This was the only time I was available to do this... "I'll wait five minutes.." I told myself, beginning the count down in my head.

Quote:
Chloe nodded at Dr. Tsu's advice, remembering that a Ms. Ballentine still had an appointment for the day, taking down her soul bottle carefully and heading back to the front reception. She was looking down at the small list that Dr. Kyou had written out for her on who go what essence, when the sliding door opened and she stepped out, looking up and giving a small start.

"Oh! Hello! I'm sorry I wasn't here." She hurried over behind the desk and set the bottle down carefully, making sure it couldn't roll. "May I help you? Did you have... an appointment?" She looked down at the list - the only person was Ms. Ballentine so could this be her...?

She looked back up with a polite, shy smile that made it seem as though she had all the patience in the world, and she very well did.

Quote:
I gave a start as a woman spoke, my attention having been on a spot on the wall. Very bad idea to space out like that! Smiling softly at the woman I gave a nod to answer her question. "Why yes, I do have an appointment today." Taking a step to the side to stand in front of her, I placed my hands behind my back and spoke. "I'm Ballentine. I have an appointment with.. Uh..." s**t! How can you forget the name?! I scolded myself as I began to fidget. s**t, s**t, s**t, this was embarrassing! Chewing my bottom lip in thought I started to run through names in my head. Something would have to sound familiar and click, if not I could always hope this woman would know the answer.

By now I had that distant look, one I had quite often when that train of thought derailed with the loss of all passengers aboard. "Um..." I lifted my hand began to do the turning motion, as if wafting the air around would bring me the answer. "Name is there... On the tip of my tongue."

Quote:
Chloe gave just the smallest of polite laughs, head tilting forward as she recognized the traight of forgetfulness in this other woman.

"Dr. Kyou?" She offered helpfully. "He's asleep right now, he's been a bit busy lately and still recovering a little from a recent illness." She bit her lip in momentary memory of the worry for the head of the lab when he'd gotten sick.

"Ah... but... I do think I have what you came for, Ms. Ballentine."

She pulled out the (by now throughly crumpled) bit of paper and read the information.

'Ms. Ballentine - Supernova Remnant (dark blue)'

She carefully picked the vial of Supernova Remnant from her front pocket, holding it up slightly and looking over the rim of her glasses into the vial in awe for just a moment before holding it out to Ballentine as well as the soul bottle.

"Be careful with the bottle... they.. they can break, even though it looks like they can't..."

Quote:
"Yes!" I exclaimed when the other woman said the name. "Dr. Kyou." I repeated, the happy smile on my face fading to find out about the recent illness. "Well I hope it was nothing serious. It is almost cold and flu season though..."

I reached out when the woman offered the vial to me. It can break... I echoed in my mind. Just great... With all those little fingers in my home I had about a 50-50 chance of not breaking it! Bricriu and Sayid the two I'd have to watch out for the most. "I'll keep that in mind." I told the woman with a reassuring voice.

I took a moment to glance down into the vial, giving a small whistle. "Wow.. Beautiful isn't it?" I asked with a glance up at the other. By the way, what is your name? This way if Dr. Kyou asks who I got my items from I can tell him."

Quote:
"Oh!" She smiled and extended her hand. "I'm sorry, I'm Chloe Star. It's nice to meet you."

She gave a small nod toward the vial. "Yes, it is very beautiful..." Her eyes were drawn to the tiny universe within.

Quote:
"It's a pleasure to meet to." I said as reached out with my cold clamy hand from the weather to shake Chloe's. "And I must say I'm sorry I have to cut this short and run, but I have children at home that can be a handful at times. I don't like leaving Jay, one of my sons, alone for too long." I laughed lightly, thinking back to the time poor Jason had been roped to a chair.

Releasing the other's hand, I flashed another smile before making sure I had a good hold on my vial and bottle. "I'm sure I'll see you around again sometime, have a great day... Even if the weather is horrible."

With a nod of my head, I turned and started back for the door. I slightly wondered if I should even bother grabbing that crappy umbrella of mine. Better not leave trash behind! Nabbing it on my way, I clicked the button and would once more truck out into the rain!

::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::

By the time I arrived home after receiving my vial and bottle, the sun had already began to sneak behind the horizon. The colors of the sky made it look on fire, and I smiled to myself. The sunset was always beautiful, but what was more beautiful was twilight. The slowly creeping greens and blues pushing away the red and oranges. I had remained parked in my driveway, looking out at the sky for minutes before I realized I was in fact home. Laughing lightly at myself, I grabbed my things in the car and started in. Thankfully the rain had stopped on the drive home!

As I walked towards my home, I tossed that ratty umbrella away into the garbage. I made a metal note to buy a new one and keep it hidden from Bricriu. Which made me remember the incident when poor Jason was tied down to a chair from Bricriu's mischief. It brought a smile to my face and a small chuckle. Shaking that thought out of my head I pushed the door open and went on in!

Immediately I was hit with the smell of pizza. Jason must have ordered in since it had taken me so long to get home. I didn't mind, the pizza smelt so good I could probably eat the whole pie! I hadn't eaten since breakfast!

"I'm home." I announced into the home, not wanting to spook anyone coming around a corner. Hey, it's happened quite often around here! As I headed towards the kitchen my stomach began to scream in hunger, the pizza making my mouth water. Yes, yes... All in due time my little tummy. I thought as I pat the rumbling area.

I couldn't help but giggle as I looked at the faces around the table. Belinda and Bricriu had sauce all around there mouths, Edward and Hugo having it on their hands. "Messy eaters I have! Little piggies." I teased, passing Ed and Hugo giving them a ruffle of their hair.

"Well kiddos, I got my experiment from the lab today. Please don't touch it, specially with you're messy fingers." I laughed lightly. "Plus stay away for another reason." I said getting my voice stern. "The bottle is dangerous," I said, wanting to get some fear into them so they'd stay away. "The bottle could suck your soul away and I'd never get to see you're cute little faces anymore!" Kissing the top of Belinda's head as I passed her I rounded the table corner to stand at the head.

"I'll let you all see the vial, but don't you touch it or the bottle." I warned once more, turning to reach into my side bag and produce said vial. As I held it out I couldn't help but smile as the table was filled with Ooh's. Yes, this was something to Ooh over.

"Jason.. Will you hit the lights please?" I asked with a casual smile cast at him. Once the lights went out, the vial itself began to give off a glow, twinkling much like a star! Faintly the colors inside shifted like a fiber optic display, fading from one to the next. Again the children were all in awe, as was I.

"Now.. I will leave it where we all can see. But no one but I am allowed to touch it." It was better to have the entire family involved. Though where was I going to find the soul I desired? Perhaps one of the others down at the lab could help and give me some advice. It was worth a shot asking, right?

Ballentine had gone out to locate a Qilin. She did not take the soul bottle with her. Even though she was out searching for the soul she desired, there was still a bit of guilt within her. If she did capture the soul, this meant the magnificent creature would parish - thus the guilt laid thick. However while the mother was away, the child was at play! Or in Bricriu's case, he was causing trouble.

Ballie had placed both the vial and soul bottle in a glass display case kept in the living room. There were a few other things inside: her giraffe collection, gifts from her children with their pictures, and of course the vial and soul bottle.

The object of Bricriu's interest was of course on the top shelf, the beautiful vial that seemed to shine in the dark. He wanted to see those twinkling stars once more, and so now had a problem. How to get way up there. His little body barely gave him arms reach to the bottom shelf.

Fingers tugged at the delicate glass door, the latch easy enough to slip free and allow that door to swing open unharmed. Ok step one done. Glancing around he smirked when his eyes found a large vase. He went to the item and tipped it on it's side, easily pushing it over to the display case. This served as a step up, one that he needed.

Now level with the bottom shelf it was an easy ladder climb upward. Hand then foot, hand then foot. Carefully he used the glass shelves as steps. His pervious attempts at flying had yet to prove fruitful and always ended up in ouchies, and so he didn't even try such an act this time.

Slowly and carefully he made his way, stopping once he reached the top shelf. It was a quick but delicate procedure to make it up without falling or breaking anything. So good so far right? Making sure both of his feet were planted firmly on the shelf below him, he released his grip of one hand and began to reach forward. On the shelf his eyes were level with was the vial essence, but the object of his desire was just out of his reach. Letting out a grunt of frustration he hopped up just a bit to make a snatch - and missed.

"Grr.." A small growl escaped his throat before he gasped. Oh no! His footing slipped from under him and he felt his body start to fall backwards. "Wah!" He screamed, hands gripping onto the glass shelf as he and the entire display case went crashing to the floor. He saved himself from any injury by crawling up into the shelf while it fell.

The loud crash was a sound that echoed among the house, and the babysitter lifted his head from his pillow. "s**t..." Jason swore as he rose to his feet. Of course he knew he'd get in trouble for not watching the little brats, and what's worse one of them broke something. With a sigh he headed downstairs while running a hand through his bed ridden hair.

When the blue haired youth turned the corner into the living room he stopped in shock. Bricriu was trapped below the remains of the glass shelf, luckily with no scratches or injuries that he could see. "Mom is going to be so pissed when she comes home." He stated bluntly while looking down at the boy.

"Jay! Heeeeelp!" Bricriu whined, smacking his hand weakly against a large shard of glass that kept him trapped where he was. Jay just shook his head, muttering to himself while he left Bricriu trapped there. He was much less of a bother that way and gave Jason the time he needed to clean up the mess.

::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::..::

Chloe
The soft chitter of a keyboard was the only real sound within the lab lobby. Chloe sat behind the receptionist desk, typing at a laptop. Be it her own personal work or something for the lab is unknown.

Roux floated with a bored, irritated expression near the window. He switched from looking outside and looking at his faint reflection in the glass. At the moment his forehead and palms were pressed against the cold glass, his breath huffing out and fogging up the surface.

Ballentine
From outside, Roux would see a oddly dressed woman starting up the steps, a blond youthful male trotting along behind her. She paused every now and then to point back in the direction they came and seemed to yell at him, the male always waving it off.

Throwing her hands in the air, Ballentine gave in and ignored as Gareth followed along. Never should she had mentioned she was going to drop off her things to Chloe, Gareth jumping at the opportunity to see the woman again.

Soon enough both bodies came through the main doors. "For the last time," Ballentine's voice hissed. "Don't embarrass me. I'm in no mood to have you thinking with your unmentionables instead of your brain."

Gareth just rolled his eyes. "Aye Aye cap'in." He mocked the woman, following a few steps behind. Though as soon as his eyes set on Chloe, Ballentine barely had time to stop the blur that ran ahead to the receptionist desk.

" 'Allo Chloe..." He purred lightly as a very irritated Ballentine coming up from behind him.

Chloe
Chloe gave a small startle, she'd been engrossed in her work, and looked up when a familiar voice spoke. She pushed her glasses up along the bridge of her nose and gave a small smile of greeting to the blond haired boy and Ballentine. "Oh... Hello, Gareth. Ballentine. How are you two?" She stood and moved around the side of the desk to be able to speak more casually with them.

Roux remained steadfastly staring out the window, purposely ignoring the people who had just come in and his 'mother'.

Ballentine
"We're doing fine, thank you." Ballentine said with a smile, lifting a leather bag from her side and placing it upon the counter top. "I brought the vial and bottle in. You said to deliver it... Is Dr. Kyou in by chance?" As she spoke, the two items were drawn out from her bag and placed atop of the bag.

Gareth just fixed a goofy grin on his face, " 'Ah am fine too... How 'bout you Chloe?" He asked with a small purr to his voice, reaching out to take the woman's hand so he could place a small kiss to the back. "Not workin' too 'ard eh?"

Chloe
"I'm not sure... he might be, but if you could just give the two items to me I can also take them to him. He's been very busy late....l-ly.." Her voice stuttered softly as Gareth took her hand and kissed it. She flushed slightly, quickly taking her hand back.

"I-I'm quite well, thank you." She cleared her throat lightly and tried to focus her attention on Ballentine - Gareth made her feel a little uneasy in a way she couldn't quite explain.

Roux was... stilling staring out the window moodily. To entertain himself he started forming frost patterns on the glass, using the moisture from his breath as a base.

Ballentine
There was an apologetic look on Ballentine's face, the woman just shrugging her shoulders. She couldn't stop her son from being an a**. "I'll just leave it with you then, I don't want to be a distraction if he's busy with work." While she spoke, both items were lifted and then offered out to the other woman. "Gareth..."

The male looked at his mother and released Chloe's hand with a small pout. Curses! His chance to romance the woman once more interrupted. He just took a small step to closer to Chloe but made it a motion to lean against the desk and watch her curiously.

Ballentine sighed lightly. "I am sorry... I tried to leave on my own but I was followed."

Gareth chuckled a bit.

Chloe
Chloe took the bottle and vial carefully, leaning over the desk and setting them both delicately on the counter surface. She looked over her shoulder toward the other woman. "Oh... well.." She straightened awkwardly, shuffling a few steps away from Gareth as he leaned on the desk.

"It's fine. Oh!" Her expression brightened and she extended an arm toward Roux's back. "My own Raevan, Roux! Roux?"

The Raevan blatantly ignored the call, scowling a bit harder out the window.

Ballentine
Both Ballentine and Gareth turned their heads to glance over at the Raevan. To be honest, it was the first one Ballentine had seen! "Wow.." She said just above a whisper, blushing a bit at her own amazement. "They certainly are spectacular. Though I think he seems a bit shy? Or perhaps just not in the mood to meet and greet. I know a few of my children are like that."

Gareth on the other hand, pushed off from the desk. A smile was planted on his face as he approached the Raevan. "Yo. Name's Gareth." He said casually, a few steps behind the reavan. "Sometin' intrestring out dar?"

Probably just what the Raevan wants, someone to hover over him! Well at least Gareth wasn't trying to flirt with Chloe for the moment.

Chloe
"Shy..?" She'd never thought of it that way, she'd always just thought he was being grumpy and disagreeable. "Maybe.." She nervously watched as Gareth approached.

Roux stubbornly looked out the window until Gareth was actually behind him and speaking. He pushed away from the window with his hands, turning to look with a vague expression of distaste toward the other. He sized him up quietly before giving a sigh as if to say 'I suppose I'll suffer through this.'

He avoided Gareth and floated over to be beside Chloe, looking toward Ballentine. He paused a moment before giving a dazzling smile and tilting his head lightly to the side, hair falling in front of his eyes, and just as suddenly went back to his bored/annoyed expression.

Chloe chuckled at his smile. "He learned that from Melisande... I think he thinks it's what he should do when he meets a girl."

Ballentine
Gareth looked a bit annoyed that he was so totally blown off like that. Little punk! But he trudged on back to stand besides his mother, watching Roux with slightly narrowed eyes. Fine.. Two can play the ignore game.

Ballentine just giggled lightly. "In my home, it's the look a kid gives when they don't want to do something. I have a large family as you know, fake smiles are common among my kids. The old 'grin and bare it' routine."

Smiling softly, the woman grabbed up her leather bag and once more placed it around her shoulders. "Well I don't want to bother your handsome boy there any longer, or keep you from your work. So I'll drag Gareth on out of here."

Chloe
Roux stared at Gareth.

"Oh?" Chloe looked back at the clock, nibbling her lip slightly. She gave a silent nod to herself and turned back to Ballentine. "Yes, yes... I'll be sure to deliver these to Dr. Kyou as soon as I get the chance. I'm glad you could come by to drop them off. I'm sure... the soul will be happy in it's new body when the Frei forms."

Roux cocked his head to the side at the compliment, eyes narrowing slightly and shifting away to the window where he could see his vague reflection.

"It was nice to see you again as well, Gareth." Chloe gave him a somewhat nervous smile, being sure to keep her hands in her pockets to avoid any embarrassing kisses.

Ballentine
Ballentine nodded at Chloe's words. "Yes yes... It better or I'll bop it over the head, the little brat." And as she spoke, Ballentine shook her fist in the air at nothing, but it was an action to make a point. "Just like I'll do to you if you don't start behaving." The threat was turned to Gareth.

The youth stuck his hands up, "Wat?! I do nothin''!" He said defensively, a frown forming on his face.

"I'll see you around Chloe. Just give me a call when Dr. Kyou is all done or what not. And don't worry I'm taking this one with me." Giving a gesture to Gareth she smiled at the Chloe. "Come on you.." A gentle tug was given to Gareth's shirt before she turned to start out.

Gareth just flashed a smile at Chloe. "Until we see again.." He purred, winking as a kiss was blown to her. Chuckling a bit he turned to chase after his mother.

Spring had finally arrived. It melted away all the white snow and brought with it the warm weather. Trees were beginning to fill, flowers starting to bloom, and the birds once more singing in the sunshine. But what else did Spring mean? Well a major spring cleaning of the DeMarselle household of course, and along with the cleaning came major changes.

With the addition of Colby, Kito and Shakina, the house was beyond crowded. So Ballentine took the necessary steps to take everything into her own hands. Or at least hired professionals' hands. Contractors were hired to completely renovate the upstairs which meant all the children had to camp out in the living room. It was like a slumber party every night for them, but in the week that passed each one learned to shut up and get to sleep after the 5th scream form Ballentine.

But soon enough construction was completed and the upstairs changed to allow larger rooms for the growing kids. Each one was permitted to choose the room of their liking. Though Jay found himself completely shut out of the house with the addition of his very own in the backyard. Yes Ballentine had even go so far as having a small house built for him on the property. His own little bachelor pad. He had been completely surprised when she first told him, and his gratitude never changed when it was completed.

It only took a day for the kids to get Jason moved and get themselves settled into their new rooms.

Forgetting. It's easy enough to do. It's far easier to be forgotten. When that special light about you fades, what is there to left to remember? Upon her arrival, Sisay was showered with love and attention. She was like a shiny new toy fresh out of the box and was just adoring the center stage treatment. Everyone wanted to play with her. Belinda inviting her to multiple tea parties, Tasa performing make over after make over, the boys playing hide and go seek, as well as cooking lessons with Ballentine. It was like a wish made on a shooting star had come true, the house just one big happily ever after.

But not every ending is a happy one.

Those glorious days of constant attention began to fade. Belinda stopped asking for tea parties, Tasa found other means of entertainment, the boys began to rough house and Ballentine was always to busy for cooking lessons. Those days were just a fading memory, something that should be forgotten. People forget others when they are thinking of themselves, and those forgotten fade away. In a family as large as this one it was easy enough to be lost in darkness.

With the passing of each day growing harder and harder to bare, the end had finally come. That bond between soul and essence faded beyond repair along with Sisay's dreams happiness. There in the kitchen as she forgotten her final memory her soul escaped the body to disappear for all eternity. Then, much like a supernova, the body no longer stable burst into a cloud of rainbow like essence spilling upon the floor.

That morning, as Ballentine entered the kitchen, she was faced with the rainbow mass of glitter around the room. It was at first mistaken for a prank from one of her children. But then, a passing glance saw a familiar rune. The run which was once glowing bright was now as dark as night and laying among the mess. It was only then that Ballentine muttered the following words. "I had failed."

---------------------

Yes. Sissy is now dead and forever will be. I am selfish enough not to allow the shop to take her and give her to someone else do to personal reasons. I hope you understand. Thank you all and bid you farewell.
