First of all. I'll say that i ment to post this a while back. But gaia wouldn't let me post. So i shall post now.

True story here.
While looking around the market place on Xbox live for Dead Space stuff i came across Call of duty: World at war. Thinking i might as well have a look i took a peek inside and to my suprise found the Beta there. (note i had some time before been told that the beta was not yet public) so thinking why not i cleared off some space taken by the imcomplete demo of DMC4 (I like DMC and thought id try it...took to long) and play it. Well the next day after college i came home loaded my stuff up and played it. At first it looked alright. The first screen seemed very COD4-ish. I waited on the loading screen and finally got to pick my weapon. Well i had the choice between the thompson machine gun. the BAR LMG and a SV...something i didnt use it so i didnt know the name. Well i chose the thompson and got to it. Now i was playing in a jungly area. And i must say. It looks beautiful. Treyarch have really done well on upgrading the graphics. To the point of having a long stream of blood come out from knife attacks or limbs lost from explosions. Now if you're one of my close friends you'll know this is something i complain about war games not having. And when i saw myself die without an arm i was so happy to see someone FINALLY do it that i almost cheered.

Well. Just like in COD4 we have our weapons split into different catorgorys. Our rifles, SMGS, LMGS, shotguns and snipers. My main problem with the snipers is its hard to get kills with them without a damn scope. Then again thats just me. As for attachments we have some very WW2 Style things. I've seen so far. Scopes and flash hiders for rifles. Silencers and a sight for SMGS. A handle for shotguns. And a scope and bayonet for Snipers. Testing bayonet just seems to be a quick knife attack. Decent for thoses with quick reflexs. As for the weapon types. There are all the classic WW2 weapons you may of seen. From MP44 and BARs to Mosin nagants and double barrel shotguns. It also seems you'll be able to make up to 10 classes (!) with prestiege. Another thing that I thought was a good idea was adding a bit of difference to the unlockable weapon attachments. Now while I only unlocked the MP40s last attachment. I found that while that gets a double clip, the Thompson has a drum barrel. Very gangster. SO this means not all guns will be the same.

Oh and a quick note. The noob-tube DOES return as a rifle grenade BUT you need all the kills for the rifle to get it. It's not unlocked at first. This will mean you won’t see everyone using it. I think Trey picked up on the complaints about it

Perks perks perks. Taking a leaf out of COD4 again we have our perks again. Ranging from some old ones like stopping power and juggernaut. To the news ones like camouflage. Now while i have yet to test that one it seems to have the "Gillie suit effect" of the SAS snipers of COD4. It allows you to be covered in leafs and be undetectable by recon planes. Which i think is a good idea. Least that what I’ve seen from OTHERS using it. There’s others but this is a beta and thus i probably haven't seen them...yet. You unlock all weapons and perks up to what i believe is so far level 65. 10 more levels than COD4

Now levels. I've mentioned one. The jungle. This is like those old towns you see in forests. And it's right next to the sea so you can see some water action to (one new challenge is to jump 20 feet into water making use of it) This map is played America vs Japan. America has their awesome commander that likes to say bad words. Gotta love him. Along with the next map which is a Japanese castle. Very well designed and of course. Very Japanese. With bonsai trees with cherry blossoms and a dojo near the American starting point. The third map is the only map you can see Germans which i thought strange since people see Germany as the main baddy of WW2. They take on the Soviet Union in a wrecked train yard. This map also introduces tanks. Which are seen to be great killing machines...but also a massive bulls eye. Someone was wrong about this meaning the games Noob-tube. Its very slow. The turret turns slower. And it takes a while between each shot. And shots ARE survivable. This map is my favourite and I just love listening to the German commander shooting the s**t.

Other mentionable things include the use of hearing your enemy. In COD4 you may of heard a fellow marine shout "Grenade!" when throwing a grenade or "Planting claymore!" when a SAS operative planted that claymore. Now you can hear your enemy shout things out as well. I've heard the enemy cussing your side as they kill a member of your side. I've heard them warn their comrades that the enemy knows they are there. This really brings the war to life

Now just like everything this game has its flaws and stuff i think should be changed. 1st of all. No British!? The British fought the whole damn war and they let the American latecomers have the glory. This I take as a personal insult ( being British myself). They could of put a "British VS Italian" map in there to. Italy was with the Axis in WW2 were they not? They could really add variety with that. Like an African campaign.

There’s also some minor bugs and glitches to patch up on. For example on the German vs soviet level. I was walking alongside a tank and the tank put me INSIDE the wall. I couldn’t move and had to wait to die. But im sure that'll be patched up as this is only the beta. Overall Good. But i prefer COD4. That might or might not change with the actual game. Who knows? But there have been a lot of WW2 games on the market. I hope this one brings new life to a dying breed

Added: Now I’ve seen a couple of levels of the game. The adage of the flamethrower is a neat touch. As I’ve heard you can burn bunkers out. Something I wanted to try since “Saving Private Ryan” (people who have seen the movie will know they use a flamethrower on a German bunker.
What I also found is instead of the Americans getting the last level. You instead get the Russians fighting the hardest mission. I have never played a mission in a war game that shows that very last push into Berlin. From other shots I’ve seen Japanese, Americans, Russians and Germans alike killing in cold blood. A practically chilling scene is found on the first Russian level.
----SPOILERS!!!----
Highlight to read.

You awake in a fountain. (Like “enemy at the gates.” (I have noticed the game takes a few things out of movies) And watch as a tank passes by. A lone German walks up to a squirming Russian man and kills him without blinking an eye. Before turning on the next dying man and shooting him to. All while a sad tune is sung quietly in the background. Its very powerful to watch and shows the brutality of war.

Well That’s all for now. When I get the game I will add more.
