First and foremost i would like people to know that i listen to other types of music.
A couple of days ago I was having an argument about music with my friend and eventually he stated that he doesn't like hip hop because the good hip hop songs are to hard to find. Even though it is a lazy reason he has a point. I just want to know what everyone else thinks.

Agreed. Hip hop music died when "artists" started to only rap about "da streets", "hoez", or material possessions. If only the black community would put more pressure on rappers and other artists to stop being frickin' idiots.

I've been very disgruntled with alot of hiphop and refuse to keep up with it. In fact the only rap I listen to now is Christian rap. If they want to rap about is materialistic dribble then I'll carry my musical tastes elsewhere.

I don't believe that nonsense about the subject material and all that crap.
Hip Hop died when rappers stopped RAPPING.
East Coast was rapping. West Coast was rapping Midwest was rapping New Orleans was rapping Houston put up a stellar effort A handful of people from Georgia were rapping. The only person who raps in Florida is .. Ross, sorry to say.
But now... NOW that hiphop has settled in Atlanta. All these local people, who can't rap. Just get on a track with some rhyming words just to make a hot song. It's all garbage. And what's bad is that Atlanta didn't use to be like this. Atlanta used to have a decent hip-hop scene.
All these non-rappers killed hiphop.
"I'm a real *****, I don't like rappers" and all this other s**t put forward. This type of mindset is what's killing hiphop.
If you don't like rappers, you're not a rapper, you're a real ***** and all this other s**t.. fine. Then go be a real *****, don't get on a track and pollute the airwaves.

Yeah HipHop is gone. That genre was whiped out by all the sorry a** rappers of the present. I personaly stick with the old school, and every now and again buy a new album from an old school artist.

While I'm entirely for music being "real", emotional and should carry some meaning behind it, I'm not going to deny that I enjoy free spirited pop music as well. Not all rap music has to be about struggling, making it and doing something driven in life just like not all other genre of music does. Music is music and it's there to be enjoyed. Not debated between what's better than what and who's better than who. I'm sure that below the mainstream media outlets, they're are many artists who rap the same way as old schoolers did.

I admit at one point hip hop was going dead because alot of whathip hop had came from was dying out. Hip hop did what it was sent out to do which was reveal the problems happening around black and minority communities. So since those problems were kinda dying down. Alot of rappers dont have alot to talk about but they're accomplishments and parties. But I think it's not hard to find a good hip hop song you just have to look for the proper artist instead of the you tube internet overnight sensations that keep on jumping out of nowhere. but no hip hop isn't dead it's still alive.
