My mother has been battling with ALS for the past year, and in the last few weeks the disease had progressed very quickly.
First of all you may be asking, What is ALS? Well, here is the simple answer. ALS, or Lu Garracks Disease (The pro baseball player, search him if you want to get a better understanding) is a illness that attacks and destroys the motor neurons of the brain. This takes away the persons ability to walk, lift their arms, sit up, move their head freely, and in extreme cases be unable to open, close, or focus their eyes and talk.
Motor neurons are the neurons in your brain that send signals to the muscles throughout your body to move. If these start to be destroyed, then you lose movment in the area that the destroyed neurons corrispond with, and your muscles in that area lose mass and are no longer useable.
ALS has no cure, some patients die from it, while others are lucky enough to have it just stop at a certain stage of the decay of mobility. My mother was not one of the lucky ones to have it stop.
She passed away on Thursday, November 13 at 8:41 pm Canadian Mountain Standard Time. For the past few weeks I have been almost living in the hospital, staying by her side, just as my father had been. The hardest part is letting go, but I've gotten past that.
I wanted all of you to know the reasons behind my absences for the past month, and I hope you can all understand the gravity of this blow. I'm a strong person, so I don't want you to pity me. Instead, I want you to be normal with me, you got that. I told you all for my own reasons of having you understand just what I do offline, and what I'll be dealing with for the next two months as per my mothers celebration of life and funeral.
Thats it; that is what I have been up to in my life offline. Are any of you crying, I hope not! No tears you guys! You need to be strong with all the bad news you hear, and hiding or running from it can't make it go away.
