I just thought that this article is really horrible - who could do that to a child.

Especially their own child?
What do you guys have to say about it?

I've become a little desensitized since I started working for CPS.

As bad as it is, I see it every day. Cases like that, or even worse.

Which is all the more reason to keep fighting against such abuses. Children like this suffer because no one speaks up. There are teachers, other children, even strangers off the street that could've said something. Kept pushing, kept fighting for this kid.

I can't tell you how many times in the 16 or so years that I was severely abused that people accepted the unlikely excuses, or just turned away, or pretended not to notice. I wished so hard every day that someone would save me, and no one ever did. If one person had spoken up, I might've had a very different childhood.

And yes, the CPS system is flawed. Yes, sometimes employees don't do their jobs. But everyone so readily accepts this as the way things are. It doesn't have to be.

People have no idea the MASS amount of child abuse cases that come across my desk every single day. And these are only the people that get caught.

It's tragic. And it's terrible. And I would much rather be out of a job than to see another case like this again.

In the meantime, I encourage everyone to speak up. The only thing worse than abusing a child is to know about the abuse, or even just suspect, and not say a word about it.

These individuals are mentally ill, their children need protection from them before it's too late. The knowledge that this happens more often than any of us can know (there are plenty of cases that don't even get to CPS) not to mention the abuse cases that aren't actually physical but are mental abuse, is staggeringly horrific. There aren't words for how distressing I find these things. To put it mildly, I am both angry, and deeply, deeply saddened.
