"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages!" The masculine voice called out into the evening air. Small black hands thrust themselves into the air for dramatic effect as the small creature's white hooves made clicks on the rock he was currently perched atop of. Said rock was about twice his height so he loomed above the ground a bit though he wasn't the biggest creature in the universe. "I present to you, the amaazzzziing Dakota of Durem!" He added in his announcer-like voice, a cocky grin revealing his little but still quite sharp teeth. He cupped his hands around his mouth and made cheering-like sounds that might come from a crowd of people.

"Watch as he pulls off this death-defying feat, the likes of which the world has never seen." The pala stepped forwards on the rock, waving his arm to call for complete silence. This required total concentration. In front of him hung a long vine dropping down from the tree above him. Then a bit further away from that and on the ground lay a big pile of leaves that he had taken the time to pile up. His objective? Swing from the vine and hit the pile of leaves, hopefully not killing himself in the process. He didn't waste any time and bounded forwards, leaping off the rock at the very last minute.

He grabbed hold of the vine and swung forwards - only to hear a disheartening snap. The weak vine snapped somewhere far above thus causing the pala to go flying. He hit the pile of leaves head first with a yelp that resonated through the clear autumn air. He remained face-down on the pile of leaves for a moment before picking up his head and spitting out a mouthful of the disgusting dead leaves. "Bleh!!!" He snapped, sitting up while frantically wiping off his tongue with his paws. He looked around; hopefully no one had seen that.

He quickly stood up, brushing the leaf matter off his black and white coat and mumbling something to himself with a scowl on his face. So much for that big stunt. The wind rocked the forest's treetops overhead and he wondered how long he had before he'd have to head back to his owner.

Nimbi had taken a real shine to outside world the moment he emerged from his lamp. Every sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste had been enriching and wonderful beyond even his overactive imagination! A flock of birds majestically soaring above the canopy of the forest, the gentle trickle of a rocky creeky, the heavy scent of flowers in bloom, the feel of the cool, fuzzy moss lining his now favorite rock (her name was Peppy!), the taste of said flowers...

Well.

Not so much the taste part. The young pala had quickly (see: about a dozen or so flowers later) picked up the fact that things that smelled good didn't necessarily taste good.

But he loved it anyways! He even loved the rancid aftertase in his mouth! Nimbi was out to experience all he could and nausea was one thing off his infinitely long list. The pala would take the unpleasant as well as the pleasant. He'd experience everything this new, wide world had to offer every second of his life.

Well, at least until he grew bored. Which, despite his vivacious eagerness to fulfill such a feat, lasted only a few minutes given the fact that his attention span, like himself, was very very tiny.

So he tried something else. If the current world no longer held his rapt attention, perhaps a he just wasn't looking at it the right way. "Yeah," he told himself. "This place is amazing. Perhaps I just need-" Nimbi began, but tripped over a rather stubbornly places rock and found himself tumbling down a soft-sloped hill. It was a little inconveneient, not knowing which way was up or down or what was going on around him, but the young pala soon found himself enjoying his tumble, giggling all the way down until he found himself upside down in a bush. "A new perspective," he finished, voice wavery from his dizziness.

Two-tone eyes blinked to focus the sight in front of him from four images of a pala into one. The Espa spoke in a mighty voice, taking such a tight hold of Nimbi's attention that the young pala forgot to right himself. Instead he stayed on his head in quiet rapture, hanging onto the older pala's every word. He eagerly clapped when Dakota announced himself and went silent when told to, thoroughly enjoying his role as an audience even though he hadn't the first clue what was going on.

And perhaps it was better that way, as when Dakota began his trick, and ended it prematurely, Nimbi didn't even know something had gone awry. "That was amazing," he cried out excitedly as he somersaulted out of the bushes. "Do it again do it again," he cheered, clapping excitedly as he bounced his way over.

Dakota turned around slowly, using his tail to brush off the back of his little legs. Something pink caught his attention and it spoke - loud enough to startle him even though he'd already seen it. He hopped back a bit, his blue eyes going wide in surprise. When his brain registered the cute pink-thing as nothing but a small pala, Dakota sighed loudly and over-dramatically. "Jeez kid, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" He exclaimed, though his scowl soon eased up at the mention of him being 'amazing'. Dakota blinked at the youth, somewhat...surprised at his words.

Had he not just seen his incredibly lame tumble into the pile of leaves? Perhaps he did but mistook it for something else. The young were oh-so foolish after all. A cocky grin spread over Dakota's face and he licked his paw and slicked back his head feathers. He hadn't lost cool points after all. "Of course it was amazing," He purred, his posture straightening up and his chest almost puffing out in pride. He put a finger to his chin and looked back at the fallen vine behind him. "Can't, the vine broke." He moved over to it and held part of it up.

"And it'd probably take me ages to find another," He said with a half-hearted shrug. His various accessories, like the clam necklace around his neck, bounced against him as he calmly strode towards the little pala. He walked around him with a thoughtful scowl knitting his brow and seemed to be scrutinizing the little fellow. He pulled up in front of him after his examination was complete. "What's a little pipsqueak like you doing out here anyway?" He asked casually, brushing his silver bangs from his eyes.

Nimbi giggled at Dakota's reaction to him, finding it infinitely amusing that someone as tiny as himself could get such a big reaction. Then again, Dakota was big. And so bold too! "But does that mean my reactions will always be tiny," he silently considered. Nimbi's face scrunched up in confusion at the mention of a "heart attack", a foreign word to the young pala "Heart...attack," he thought to himself. "How do you give an attack to someone's heart?" Tiny hands pawed at the fur on his chest as though the answer would somehow be lying on the skin beneath.

But when Dakota started talking again his transient attention span found a new focus on the older pala, blue and green eyes blinking up at him in awe. Maybe he'd do something big and amazing again if he watched him carefully enough. However, just the opposite occurred and the bright glitter of awe in his eyes was slowly replaced by pure, heart-breaking sorrow. "You...you can't?" Nimbi's voice and bottom lip quivered. "This is the most terrible thing ever," the pink pala thought as tears welled up in his eyes.

The young pala was just on the verge of releasing a flood of tears before a new word yanked his attention away. A few quick blinks and he looked perfectly content, a little confused, but content nonetheless. "Pipsqueak," he repeated with a slight frown. "I'm not a pipsqueak," Nimbi said, mimicking Dakota's chest puff and head feather slick, "I'm a pala! And I'm out exploring of course! What are you doing out here?" Two-tone eyes watched Dakota eagerly (in case he had any more funny reactions), gripped his hooves with his tiny hands, and began to idly rock back and forth while awaiting his answer. He was sure it would be something amazing. Dakota was amazing, even if he was a little silly for mistaking him as a pipsqueak (whatever that was) when he was very obviously a pala.

Dakota looked at the kid a bit incredulously. Was he serious?! Rubbing his temples with his hands, he sighed. "Quit doing that, kid. Have your mommy tell you or something," He quipped, scowling at the miniature pala. He didn't have the patience to be dealing with this fluff ball. But he might as well humor him for a bit longer. He was curious though as to why he was out there all alone anyway. Dakota grumbled mentally to himself. His conscience would have a fit if something happened to the kid if he just left him all alone.

Who knows what kinda things could've been skulking about these woods. So lost in thoughts of monsters, Nimbi's voice caught him offguard again and he flinched. But there was a quiver in his tone that made Dakota look at him with a rather panicked expression. He was about to start crying! "H-hey! It's not the end of the world!" He waved his hands around in front of him to emphasize this. 'This is bad...' He thought but just as he thought the kid was going to break the dams in his tear ducts, the crisis was averted.

'Thank goodness,' He thought with a relieved sigh. The fact that Nimbu mimicked the movements he'd made a few minutes prior made him snicker a bit. When you were pint-sized that really didn't get pulled off well. "Exploring?" He repeated, knitting his brows into a scowl. He placed his hand on his chest as if taken aback by Nimbi's inquiry. "Like I gotta answer to you," She folded his arms across his chest in a haughty manner and turned up his nose at him.

"But if you MUST know, I was just practicing my awesome stunts," He said as if it were the most obvious fact in the world. He put his hands on his hips now, his blue eyes again settling onto Nimbi's face. "Why are you exploring alone anyhow? Dontcha know there might be monsters around?" He snorted a bit shortly.

"Yeah! Exploring! It's when you look around places to learn new things." Nimbi nodded sagely, just the barest hints of pride in his smile. He must have been very smart indeed to teach a grown-up pala something new. Looking up at Dakota's unique facial expressions he giggled until his little pink frame shook with the force. "Dakota's funny," he said, wiping his eyes of the tiny tears that had gathered at the corners.

"And of course you gotta answer! I asked you a question. That's what you're suppose'ta do!" When Dakota did answer (and in a rather timely manner at that), the pink pala began to giggle again. Once they began to die down Nimbi realized he didn't know what he was talking about. "St-unts," the young pala sounded out the word and thought hard on what it might mean. "Well," he thought to himself, "he was doing something awesome with a vine...maybe that's what stunt is?" Nimbi twisted his tiny mouth in thought as he reasoned things out. "So he was out practicing his awesome awesome vine stunts..." The pink pala beamed happily. "Awesome."

Nimbi's attention tuned back into the world around him and he stared up at the older pala, eyes bright and attentive. "Well no one else wanted to go with so I went on my own!" The pala shrugged his tiny shoulders. He didn't see the big deal about going alone. And these monsters? "If I run into any monsters I'll just make friends with 'em," Nimbi said in chipper earnest, unaware of what a monster was. "You know," he began as a thought formed in his head, "if you're shy you can come with me!" The pink pala stumbled forward onto his short legs and reached his hand out to Dakota. "I'll hold your hand!" Nimbi beamed and wiggled tiny fingers at Dakota.

Dakota's hand connected with his face when Nimbi took the time to explain to him what exactly exploring was. 'This kid's going to drive me nuts,' He thought bitterly, opening an eye to peek at the annoying little pala again. It seemed he was proud of himself for knowing oh-so much. Did he think Dakota was an idiot?! He watched the pink pala's facial expressions for a few moments, seeing the wheels turning in his little brain. He wondered what on earth he was thinking about. His innocence perplexed the black and white pala who rolled his eyes.

"You mean you'd make friends with their stomach, after you were EATEN!" He raised his hands above his head and wiggled his fingers to emphasize the horror of that. A thought occurred to him. Did this little pink ball of fluff even know what a monster was? He resisted the urge to just turn and run far, far away from this menace. He had neither the time nor patience to be dealing with him. But he still lingered because even though his temper wasn't the best he still had a conscience, which meant he'd feel bad if he left him all alone out here.

Being drawn out of his train of thought he nearly bit through his tongue in agitation at the pala's next statement. "Of.course.I'm.not.shy." You could tell he was just barely keeping his voice at a normal volume. "NO I AINT GONNA HOLD YOUR HAND!" He snorted, folding his arms across his chest. The mere notion was RIDICULOUS! Dakota, holding some snot-nosed kid's hand. Pft. Slowly stopping his seething he took a moment to scrutinize him. "What's your name anyway?" He asked, figuring he couldn't call him kid forever.

"Why would they eat me," Nimbi asked, staring perplexedly up at Dakota. The Espa sure said the funniest things to match his actions. "Palas aren't food," a tongue as pink as his fur darted out to lick at the back of his hand, "And even if we were we don't taste very good." The pink pala made a grimace and attempted to spit out the hairs in his mouth.

Pausing in mid spit he frowned up at Dakota. "Well if you aren't shy then..." Nimbi paused and scrunched up his face in thought as he fiddled with his fingers. "Are you afraid?" Two-tone eyes eyed him curiously before giggling. "It's okay Dakota! I, Nimbi," the pala held a tiny hand to his heart as though he were making a pledge, "will keep you safe!" Despite his previous protests Nimbi snatched his hand and tugged hard on his arm.
