TheMessiah that AT field is the projection of ones ego. take me for example, i seem to be entirely arrogant and as thus have a big ego, aka, AT field. i am able to effectively push alot of people away. the angels had amazing AT fields becuase they knew nothing but the eraication of others. also why im assuming they never attacked in pairs. in consideration we are all angels. they are of different forms. as such, would not they fight as well. somthing that was probly brought to mind was the fact of why are they not fighting each other instead of us. im guessing this is due to our number. take out the biggest threat so we can have a better fight

I really don't have much of an ego to tell the truth. But if I had to say I would think that my AT Field is my aggresion (in a nice way). I'm a way to open with other people and that seems to push them away.

Aww hell, I remember this post.
Should I go and drag my replies back in here? LoL
I think I agreed with it to some extent, but that didnt explain why Shinji or Rei, two people who either had no ego or didnt seem to, could produce such strong AT Fields.
And Rei was given the default "Shes an angel! BURN HER!" vote, where as Shinji.... I forget.
Something about 'being motivated' at the time?
Altho, when he pulled his little "I'm number one. This is a man's job, I'll show you how it's done" crack dream, he failed so hilariously.

TheMessiah TheMessiah somthing that was probly brought to mind was the fact of why are they not fighting each other instead of us. im guessing this is due to our number. take out the biggest threat so we can have a better fight They werent fighting us....they were just trying to get to adam...Which they thought was lillith..... of course...because gendo is so awsome, we got in the way, as to prevent a third impact.

If you're walking in a street and you meet and talk to some random strangers, your ego is acting directly. Your superego is the unconscious part of you, according to Freud. It contains your morals and standards of your past, parents, and experiences. It's your superego that controls your ego. If you are normal, then you probably won't flip out and kill random people you see. Ego can also mean arrogance, but in Eva's case, it is existence. Rei knows she exists, because she is told so. She questions this over and over because she doesn't understand to the fullest of her existence, until she faces Kaoru, where she stops him dead at Lilith. In fact, when she realizes this, her AT-field is so strong, Maya (or some other lieutenant) comments that nothing is passing through, not even light. It is here that Rei's ego is strong, because she understands her existence. Shinji's AT field is strongest when he is beserk, for reasons I can't seem to think of right now. Maybe you all can help me with this. Why is Shinji's existentialism so large when he's beserk? Do this have something to do with Yui's ego factor?

If I readed "Red Cross Book" correct, it said it was cause of more of Eva-01. but then, Unit01's soul IS Yui, so I guess you can say that...

my idea is that it is not shinji's AT feild its the evangelions. the thing i read in the first eva manga said that not only where the eva connectors essetial to conecting the two souls together, one being the pilo the other soul is the one that got absorbed, but also the reason the eva's have AT feilds. i think the part on the AT feild was somewhere in the series.
HA! you do believe me! the kouru and rei thing i was disscussing last week.

Well, the thing about the EVa actually having an AT field makes sense, but remember that the Eva can't move on its own nor create an AT field by itself.

it can with a consant power source like the s2 engine. once shinji got absorbed he the eva contolled itself. and it was pretty powerfull

I've never thought about the aspect of how the AT field is created... probably just never occurred to me that there was much of an explanation other than it "being the barrier of your mind" as Kaworu put it.
The ego thing makes sense though! I should have known better than to think there wasn't an explanation for everything and anything in NGE. As to Rei's ego... it is hard to figure how that works, but it makes sense that it ties in to her not really knowing who or what she was, and so was never eable to create a really powerful AT field until she realized it... this might also sort of explain her unimpressive synch ratios
