Deep within the bowels of the universe, the demon Hael stretched, catlike, from within his prison. As was his habit, every century or so he pulled free of his magically enduced slumber to push against the walls that confined him. The effort was futile of course, the ancient gods had made sure there were no weakesses in this chamber, he was to spend all of eternity in this disgusting hole. He stood, stretching his legs and allowing his neck and shoulders to press against the low ceiling. The spells shifted ever so slightly, creating a hairline fracture in the ceiling that stretched from one end to the other. The chamber was made of faceted black diamond, an amplifier for the spells that held him captive, but no match for his strength should the magic lending them strength dissapate. He smiled darkly, the old gods had dissapeared ages ago, he had felt their absence the moment they dissappeared from this plane of existence. Apparantley their influence in this world was waning as well, weakening their magic and giving his the chance for freedom he had been hoping for for the last twelve millenia.
Hael stretched his naked body out on the cold floor, pillowing his head on one arm and summoned a ball of black fire. He rolled it between his fingers and allwed the warmth to wash over his perpetually freezing body. The flickering light reflected off the obsidian jewel in his collarbone. He need only bide his time. Within weeks he would be free to rule the world as he was always meant to.

Hael felt more alive than he had felt in centuries. The alien magic that had bound him in slumber and sapped his strength was fading, his prison walls weakening with each passing day. He was able to reach out from the chamber to brush against the minds of mortals, feasting off all their lovely emotions; fear, anger, lust, sadness, it was marvelous!
He eagerly mingled, unseen, among the mortals. Whispering a comment here and there into an unsuspecting ear, fueling more of their delicious fear or desire.

Hael had been imprisoned millions of years ago by ancient gods who decided he was to dangerous to be allowed to roam unchecked throughout the mortal realms. It had taken all of their combined powers to create a prison storng enough to hold him, and even that was proving to be only a temporary solution. He longed to once again walk among their kind. His mere touch enslaved women to his will, in the good old days he'd had scores of women fawning at his feet, begging him to please them, begging him to let them please him. yes, he would have to reestablish his dark court once he attained the freedom he so desperately sought.

With a deceptively gentle ring, Hael's prison shattered ,spewing shards of precious crystal hurdling in all directions. Hael smiled to himself, it was about time. For the first time in eons, he could feel the kiss of starlight against his skin. The night illuminated every inch of his chiseled form, his clothing had worn out and disintegrated long ago. They had been mortal made, so it was to be expected. Reclining against the outside of the crystal cavern he turned his Icy blue eyes towards the mortal realms. He could see them moving below him, like tiny fragile ants. If they only knew what had just broken free. The though made him smile broadly as he ran his hair through his silvery blond hair. The night was young, there would have been plenty of time to stir up some mischief had he felt up to it. Truth be told, Hale was tired. Despite his seemingly endless imprisonment in that cavern in an enchanted slumber, his body had been unable to get the healthy rest it truly needed. The oily remnants of the spells that held him prisoner wrapped around his limp body and began to drip their poison throughout his body. Hael's eyes slid closed briefly, his breath evening out as his body responded to that all too familiar touch. His mind thrashed against the confines. He was so close to freedom, so very close, he could feel the wind against his skin, running cool fingers through his hair and kissing away the single tear that rolled down his face. The starlight shone tantalizingly through his eyelids and beckoned for him to come closer. He was lost, lost again in that cursed slumber. His struggles grew more and more feeble as time rolled past, his body felt as heavy as lead, if the spell was allowed to fully set, he could be trapped here for another decade or so, sleeping off this final trap laid by his most ancient enemies.

With a final pull of desperation, he threw every last ounce of strength and magic he had left at the alien magics. They parted, oh merciful heavens he was free! But time was short, within seconds his eyes began to droop. He scrambled to his knees and groped his was to the edge of the cliff. It was a long way down. Any other creature would be virtually liquified had they dared to throw themselves from such a height, even so, he would most likely sustain serious injuries from the fall. He glanced back at the clinging tendrils twining around his ankles, and flung himself from the cliff face. Aiming as best as he was able towards the large body of water near the base of his cliff.

The whistle of air as he fell tore the breath from his lungs and viciously battered his weak body. The water drew nearer, the impact would surely kill him. He had underestimated the height of the drop, vague impressions of color whipped past his vision making him feel sick as well as dizzy from lack of oxygen. The thunderous clap that sounded when he hit the water was deafening, water surged up around him on all sides, clawing its way down his throat and filling his lungs, his chest burned for air. His limbs were stiff as he desperately plowed his way towards air.

He broke the surface with a desperate gasp, feeling bruised and beaten from crown to toe. His long hair spread out in a fan of silver across the surface of the water. His feet churned in the water as his arms worked to keep him afloat. He felt nothing but a horrible exhaustion that threatened to overwhelm him and drag him underwater into an icy grave.

It took him about an hour to swim to shore, he aimed for the nearest light, and alternated between fast powerful strokes and desperate little paddles. When he first felt the sand beneath his toes, he felt he would die with relief. His steps were staggering as he made his was up to the beach and collapsed in an exhausted heap, his lower half still in the water. The last thing he saw before tumbling off into unconsciousness was the face of a pretty copper haired girl with very wide green eyes before slipping into oblivion.

Alura gazed with wide eyed disbelief at the unbelievable beautiful man laying at her feet. Her blood burned hungrily as she gazed at his prostrate body. He was layinf face down, thank the lord. Blushing ever so slightly, she averted her eyes as she tried to puzzle out the strangers appearence. There were no boats in sight, No wrechage, not even a carriage. Her's was the only fire within sight for leagues. She peeked at him, his ribcage was slowly expanding and relazing, well at least he wasn't dead. She couldn't very well leave him laying in the frigid water all night, not to mention that the tide would certaintly rise in the morning, drowning him. But she had no diea who he was! He looked strong enough to overpower her if he so wished, and even in slumber he had the appearence of a sleeping predator. Alura inched closer, laying her fingers across his broad back. The muscles tensed abruptly, and she jerked her hand back, watching his face warily, but he merely let out a long sigh and rolled over.

Alura was scarlet from head to toe as she struggled to drag the man over to her fire. He was heavy, and slippery from the water. His long hair seemed to have a life of its own, tangling up between her legs and making her fall flat on her face. She finally reached her tent and gently lay him on the ground (on his back 0-0; ).
She straightened, and brushed herself off, his hair was still entwined about her legs, she pulled at it as lightly as possible, struggling to free herself. The man groaned in his sleep, he looked like he was having nightmares, before rolling over. Her automatic reaction was to uickly glance away, but to her intense horror, the locks of hair around her legs tightened as he moves, and swept her feet out from under her. She lurched foreword across the man's abdomen. "Oh god, oh god, oh god..." she whispered. His skin was surprisingly warm and soft, she ran a finger over his muscular biceps briefly before pulling away in disgust. How shameful, taking advantage of the poor man while he slept. She stood up quickly, and promptly fell down again before she had the good sense to untangle the knot first. Creeping into her tent, she pulled out a large wool and returned to her ward's side. His color had improved significantly after only a few minutes by the fire. With as much detatchment as possible, she wrapped it around his midsection, and arranged him in such a way as to preserve his modesty. With a great gust of a sigh, Alura banked the fire, and retreated into the warm mouth of her tent, snuggling deep into her blankets before drifting off into a peaceful slumber.

The morning dawned cold and gray. Alura crawled out of her tent wrapped in a blanket and poked at the fire with a stick. Not even a hint of smoke, she glared at the black coals accusingly, the wind picking up as her temper flared. There was a sudden rush of heat and a hiss, the coals burst to life, dancing with sparkling black flames. Alura stared in shock, her powers had nothing to do with fire, she timidly looked down at her shaking hands and then back at the flames. There was no way...

A deep musical laugh sounded from her left, making her jump about a foot. She had forgotten about the stranger. His ribcage was crisscrossed with angry looking bruises, how had she missed those? There were definitely broken ribs. "Beautiful aren't they?" He murmured, running his fingers across his colorful skin. His accent was rich and strange, but the words were pronounced perfectly. He coughed thickly, his broad shoulders shaking with each spasm.

Alura turned without a word, and went back into the tent, she was limited on first aide supplies. There was a bit of canvas in the corner for rainy days, pulling a sharp knife out from her waist band, she sliced a wide bandage out of it and brought it back outside.

She knelt next to the man, "You have some pretty serious looking breaks there, would you mind holding your arms out for me?" He complied with a childlike obedience, always watching her out of the corner of his gorgeous blue eyes. She first felt around his torso with gentle fingers, pressing here and there to feel for jagged bone, hopefully they were merely cracked. She breathed a sigh of relief, no bone had pierced the flesh at least.
The canvas would chafe his skin if she put it on without padding, and she had only two blankets. With the nights steadily growing colder, ripping apart one was simply not an option. With a regretful sigh she began tearing a wide strip from her tunic.

The man was beautiful in a way that made her breath catch, and the way he watched her work made her heart pound like a drum. She was almost sure he could hear it from where he sat (In fact he could).
She finished her makeshift padding in short order and began to wrap it around his ribs, he hissed softly at the pressure against his wounds but remained otherwise silent.

The coughing began again as Alura began silently winding the canvas around his midsection for support. "Am I going to die?" He asked with interest. Alura glanced at him with shock, was his life so bad? He seemed almost... amused, "No, I don't think so, but we should find a real healer to take a look at these ribs..." He coughed again, his whole body shaking. The man lifted his hand and ran it through her hair gently, Alura jerked back into a defensive crouch, shivers running down her spine. How dare he?

He licked his lips thoughtfully, they were stained red with blood.
"Pity," he murmured quietly, before spitting up another mouthful of sticky blood.

Alura stared at him for a moment, panic burning through her veins.
He was hunched over, arms across his chest, making everything worse by the looks of it. a bone spear must have pierced one of his lungs, if she hurried she may be able to get him help, otherwise he would die.

The wind picked up, responding to her moods as always, it tugged on her hair and clothes like a nervous child. She hushed it, "I need to think!" She muttered halfway to herself. Draeutia was the closest kingdom, if she left now and ran into no trouble on the road, she ought to be able to get him there by tomorrow evening. But she didn't know how well he could travel, by the looks of him, not very well. she had only one horse, an injured man, and an entire campsite to take down before she left.
"God damn it!" she would have to leave without it, she felt a connection to him, she couldn't let him die. Aislinn would replace her abandoned belongings if she asked. She began saddling her mount.

"come on," she murmured reassuringly, "lets get you some help." She helped him slide up onto her horses back, he was tall, at least six feet, taller than any man she'd ever encountered, and his ears they protruded through his white blond hair like knives.

She threw the blankets over her mare's back, and then saddled up infront of her new ward. "I hope I'm making the right decision..."
