Kaoni sighed happily, twirling around in a small circle and relishing in the cold his Mother hated so much. She, of course, would never so much as step outdoors in weather such as this, with a slight bite to the air and cold grey clouds overhead as if the weather were making up its mind whether to rain or to snow. That’s how he saw it, anyway, and it was this very weather, still dry yet cold, that he loved so much and she loathed doubly as much as he enjoyed it. Yet, despite the chill, he was garbed lightly. His clothing was made by some famous designer or something, he never paid much attention when Mother explained it to him. He did know, however, that it was comfortable, fit well, and left his arms bare. He picked absentmindedly at the carefully hand-done and certainly expensive stitching of what was basically a sleeveless white leather jacket. That and the jeans he was wearing, more expensive, surely, than many “common” folks entire wardrobe, was the simplest attire he had, and he had worn it today. For he wanted to get out, to be free, at a time when had he so much as mentioned it he would surely have been given something dreadfully boring to do to prevent him from so much as thinking of it. A grin flashed across his handsome face at his ingenuity. And he’d only fallen down the stairs twice on his way down!

Yet still, he stood uncertainly outside of the shop she had taken him to a few times, the one he had been made in. He was unsure how to stand, what to do, how to act without the supervision of a parental figure constantly embarrassed by his mistakes. Without her presence there to chide him, he was unsure whether he should act the same as usual or to do everything she’d reprimanded him for. Stuck in his dilemma, he was unable even to enter the shop in which she’d always allowed him to roam free as she spoke, for once, to the Commoner adults.

The Gourmet Pocky Shoppe, a strange place indeed. For whatever reason Xan had returned to this place to speak with the owner about his pocky boy, Puck. Apparently the child either could not or refused to talk. His meeting had been a long and drawn out one but for what it was worth a least he felt slightly reassured that Puck was okay. Speaking of the child, he looked around for the multicolored top and found him poking his head around some of the displays. "Let's go, kiddo." Xan spoke, ushering the kid to the door. "You hungry?"

Puck looked up at the familiar voice, pouting slightly at their need to leave as he had gotten a small glimpse of another child but he quickly perked up at the mention of food. He nodded his head vigorously smiling his usual child like grin. Reaching a hand out he took his guardian's smiling to himself. It had been a day since his arrival but even in that short amount of time he had grown quite comfortable with the tall cowboy. He was very nice, a bit stern at times but to Puck he felt it had a fatherly touch to it. Maybe this was what a father was suppose to be, nice, yet stern? He looked to the cowboy who smiled down on him pointing out some places they could go to eat. None of them appealed to the boy to which he shook his head vigorously. Puck only liked Xan's cooking and nothing else.

"Aw kiddo, you gotta try new things ya know. I can't cook all the time." Xan tried explaining but Puck clung to his leg in daddy's boy fashion. With a hefty sigh, Xan knelt down ruffling his hair. "Sorry kiddo but I'm beat. So tonight you gotta eat out. I'll make you some cookies later if you do." Puck pouted looking at the cowboy but eventually gave a soft nod to try other things. "Good boy. Now point to something that looks good to you, kay?"

Kaoni remained indecisive, first moving a step forward, than a step back. How did one act around commoners? What if he did something offensive? How on earth would he live it down if She were to hear about it? He would certainly never live it down. Yet, a moment later, a child walked by. That aspect, of course, was unimportant: more key was the fact that the child, for whatever reason, was pursued by a vague scent of...something. Not chocolate, that was certain, but most definitely sugar. And even in his uncharacteristic state, Kaoni could not resist the pull of sugar. He turned moments after the boy, nearly running into the older man who appeared to be accompanying him. Yet he, somehow and quite unusually, managed to avoid a collision and continued to follow them a short way behind.

She had told him laughingly that his instinct for sugar was even better than a shark for blood: that he could not just catch it's scent miles off when no one else would even have been able to tell a foot away, but he also possessed some sort of ability to know when someone was going to come into contact with sugar in the near future. At least, he could do this with other children. However, despite her later telling him not to take it to heart, it was either entirely his imagination or he just somehow subconsciously translated their attitude and his mind expressed it to him in the form of scent, he still retained naive belief in her original statement. And, puzzled by the scent, he assumed this was what it was. So, perhaps, if he followed him he'd find sugar he'd feel secure in eating. And what better way to regain his usual dignity or lack thereof?

The father and son pair walked leisurely down the road, Puck unsatisfied with the different smells of food and those that were on display. He wanted Xan to cook but was eager for some homemade cookies just the same. In order to get what he wanted a compromise had to be made. Sighing he looked around his orange eyes glaring daggers at all offending shops. Eventually he felt a light squeeze on his hand looking to the cowboy. "Are you still being indecisive?" Xan questioned a soft chuckle on his lips. Puck nodded looking to the ground just as he saw a rock and kicked it. "How about I pick, we'll have some pizza. You never know you might like it." With that out of the way, Puck felt a little better in his decision to eat out. At least he didn't have to choose and if the food was bad he could blame his father.

As the walked the cowboy's mint gaze darted about noting a pizzeria. And just as they were crossing the street to the eatery, Xan's sensetive nose for chocolate kicked in. He sniffed around looking for the source of the profound chocolate scent. It was subtle but no one could mask such a sweet scent and definately not his favorite snack, a forbidden pleasure he was often denied. Still he had to feed the kid and sniffing around for chocolate was not going to get anything done. "Let's go." He urged Puck onward his desire for chocolate getting the best of him.

Kaoni slipped into the shadows as he pursued them, not intending to appear as if he was stalking them but unsure of what to do if he was caught. And the boy's appearance intrigued him nearly as much as the unusual scent. His hair was patterned in gold, orange, and white and the sugary scent, upon closer examination, had an odd texture to it. It was certainly not a sweet he had tasted yet. 'Probably commoner food,' he resolved, knowing that was the most likely reason for an unexplored sugary delight. But that still didn't explain what it was or why it was coming from this boy.

Kaoni drew closer, noting now that they were searching for some sustenance. The sugary scent had made him hungry, and now he drew closer, eager to follow to some type of food he'd never normally be allowed to eat. And, more importantly, dessert. There was no way he'd be able to locate a decent eatery among all these unknowns, and he was glad to have an unsuspecting guide to this type of thing.

He watched the older man hesitate in the midst of crossing the street and rushed closer. If he lost them, if he found himself alone in Commoners' country, he'd definitely never get back. It was not that he had anything against Commoners, indeed from the little he'd seen in the shop and from the car they were a great deal more fun than the type of people Mother associated with, he just had little knowledge of their culture, how to act, what to do. And he'd been told...stories. What if they were true? What if he got lured down some back ally somewhere and killed? What on earth would he do then?

Locked in his thoughts and only paying a small amount of attention to following the two males, he eventually ended up going slightly faster and, soon afterward, running into a streetlight. While that in and of itself was far from unusual, he simply hoped it did not bring more attention to himself, an unusual wish to be sure. He glanced around hurriedly, remaining seated on the ground and looking for the child with the unusual hair and scent.

Said child was standing with a blank stare at Kaoni. Puck's attention momentarily brought to the clumpsy child before him. Looking off to his side he saw Xan coming up next to him and pointed to the child. Xan gave a soft chuckle kneeling down before Kaoni as he reached out to set him straight. "You okay kid?" He questioned dusting off the boy's pants and looking around for a worried parent. Though as he did this he could smell that familiar chocolate scent coming of the boy. A curious brow arched in his direction then back to Puck who had always given off a sugary scent. He wondered for a moment about the boy but couldn't quite put his finger on it.

Sighing softly he took Puck by the hand and looked to the boy. "Do you know where you're parents are, kiddo?" First thing first, get the kid to his folks, then he could go from there. In the meantime, Puck was too busy staring at Kaoni that he was very sluggish against the cowboy's need to look for the boy's parents. "Pick up your feet, Puck, we need to look for the kid's folks." Pouting he looked up then to Kaoni and smiled while reaching out to take the boy by his hand happily.

Kaoni grinned guilty at the pair. "Gomenasai," he said, slipping into the Japanese he'd learned because she'd told him he needed to be at least bilingual, not that he was quite at that level yet. "A- I mean to say, thank you very much for your assistance." He glanced around at his surroundings. A commoner street. He could just imagine what had led him here. He sighed internally at the lack of self-restraint. "Ah...yes...well she would, most likely, be either...home...or at some sort of event. That would indeed be her norm. You won't find her here, that much is certain. Might I inquire as to the time and date?" He paused politely, awaiting a response.

It was then, however, that he noticed the scent coming off the oddly-haired child. Ah. That would explain things. "Would you, by any chance, know of the small store know as the "Gourmet Pocky Shoppe?" As he spoke, he stood, however he appeared to still be suffering the effects of the first collision and upon standing somehow managed to collide once more with the innocent pole.

Xan smiled softly watching Kaoni carefully, he seemed the clumsy type. Nodding at the Japanese understanding the other half of his heritage, Xan scratched his nose looking this way and that before glancing at his watch. "Hm, well it's fairly a quarter after noon and it's a Wednesday, November xx." He said with a curious arch of his brow. The child was well mannered something he could point out in the cloths and his mannerisms. Probably had some good training growing up; that half way reminded Xan of his own father and his need to breed a well mannered tool to show off to his friends... Xan broke away a long time ago doing his own thing and being his own person. The wealthy society just wasn't his cup of tea.

Puck watched Kaoni curiously as he kept hovering rather close. At his question about the shop, Puck squealed out a peel of laughter and clapped looking to his father happily. "Yes I do know that place, as you can probably guess this little guy came from there." Xan smirked lightly kneeling with a soft sniff from Kaoni. "I know that intoxicating scent you give off. My money says you're from there too. You're the same as Puck here." Of course as Xan had expected the boy was rather clumsy and took another dive into the pole. "Whoa there kiddo I think the pole gives up. You win. Puck and I were headin' to that shop to get some pizza you're more than welcome to join us. We can go back to the Pocky shop and contact your parents there, I'm sure they'll be worried." And to answer his father better, Puck swooped up behind Kaoni pushing him forward eagerly. "Be nice Puck, I'm sure he can make up his own mind." He chuckled. It wasn't every day Puck had someone to play with living out on the ranch with animals and livestock.

The child seemed annoyed at the mention of his “Mother.” “‘Mother,’ eh? I doubt that woman is worried at all. She left me to my own devices, so I left the house. She’s got places to go today, anyway.” He sighed and rolled his eyes before returning his gaze to the two with a wink at the other pocky boy. “Candycorn? I should have guessed, you’re definitely sweet.” He looked a little surprised at the hyper-ness of the other pocky boy, but it passed so swiftly it seemed imagined.

“A playmate, hmm? Now that you mention it, I don’t believe I’ve had one either, for one reason or another.” With this sentence, another smile crossed his face. Yet, though it was impossible to tell, it was another of his fake smiles: one shown merely because it was a necessity to always be pleasant. Internally, he berated the child for his youthful ways, but externally he remained happy and flirty, commonly tossing in sly, conspiratorial grins and winks.

However, the chocolate pocky boy took one look at the interior of the commoner’s pizza shop and threw his arms up in exasperation. It was as if, for a moment, he gave the impression of “I can’t handle this.” Yet as his arms came down again, a wide, true smile crossed his face and his voice changed: became less mature and schooled, less cool and collected, and more similar to the exceedingly hyper child rather like Puck. “Ooh! Pizza!” he exclaimed happily, “I’ve heard about this! What type should I get? I heard cheese is the best! But pepperoni is supposed to be good too…oh! I wonder if they have chocolate pizza! I bet I could ask them too! I’ll pay them extra with my allowance.” The hyper chocolate child practically danced around the adult as the door was opened, withdrawing a large sum, including multiple hundred dollar bills and some foreign currency, from his pocket: his allowance.

So this was how it was to be? Xan hadn't expected much from the encounter of the other child, smiling kindly to him in return. He only chuckled at the boys dis-acknowledgment of his sweet scent. "I will not say otherwise but I know an intoxicating scent when I smell it." He pressed as he stood to his full height his mint gaze fell on the lad with another amused chuckle. "If you are hungry we should hurry. I'm sure you're mother is quite worried. I'll explain things to her when we get back." He wasn't sure what kind of woman his mother was but hoped she would forgive the boy's curious need to wander off.

At the mention of Puck's interesting sugared scent, Xan arched a brow in his direction to which Puck only looked up nibbling cutely on his thumb. "Oh this one here..." With a beam from the Pocky child Xan continued. "He's candycorn a rather sweet candy often given out during Halloween." True he himself had a sweet spot for the interesting corn candy but over the years he had grown tired of its taste and simply enjoyed the colors and holiday cheer it represented. Puck on the other hand gleed with a cute gurgle as he danced around Kaoni clapping his hands. "Seems like he's happy to have a playmate. At least I hope you'd be friendly with him, he's rather lonely on the ranch by himself." There was only so much the cowboy could do to appease the cherubs need for adventure before he would find himself sulking in front of a box of crayons and coloring book.

Thankfully, Puck wasn't the only one of his kind and Xan made it a point to check out the pocky shop occasionally in hopes of finding more playmates for the multicolored cherub. Though as his mind wrapped around that idea, he vaguely noted something different about Kaoni as they continued to the pizzeria. His demeanor if the man wasn't mistake was definitely different. Puck also noticed the change and blushed brightly at his whispered words but wasn't sure why or even what had been said outside of his agreeing to walk with them. He gave a weary glance in his guardians direction before continuing on the usual glee on his face dimmed to a milder cautious tone.
