Well, this shall be a contest which I shall give a prize to the person who can make a creative and funtional deck based on the theme. Anyone remember the old mechanic of poison? A friend of mine wants to create a deck based on it but I'm completely stumped on ideas, so I need your help. :3 Was thinking of making it green/black but I'm not sure, you can decide. :B

20 land
8 Swamps. 8 Forests. 4 Golgari Rot Farm.
17 Creatures 4 Crypt Cobra 4 Marsh Viper 4 Sabertooth Cobra 4 Swamp Mosquito 1 Genesis
24 Other 4 Alpha Status 1 Serpent Generator 1 Seed the Land 4 Terror 4 Dark Banishing 4 Putrify 4 Horabi's Whisper 1 Rite of Passage 1 Doubling Season --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Golgari Rot Farm has you return a land to your hand and it comes into play tapped, then you can produce BG by tapping it. this is a very helpful source of mana in this deck.
Crypt Cobra is a 3/3 for 3B. it adds 1 poison counter each time it deals combat damage.
Sabetooth Cobra is a 2/2 for 2G. whenever it deals damage to a player that player gets 1 poison counter, additionally they must pay 2 the next turn or they get another poison counter.
Swamp Mosquito is a 0/1 flying for BB, if this creature attacks and isn't blocked the defending player gest 1 poison counter.
Swamp Viper is a 1/2 for 3G. when it deals damage to a player that player gets 2 poison ocunters.
Genesis is in case you lose a poison counter dealing creature. attack with this card at any cost, especially if it means losing him.
Alpha Status makes your snakes more powerful. that way they won't be killed off so easily.
Serpent Generator costs 6 to play and 4T: put a 1/1 artifact snake token into play, that token has "when this token deals combat damage to a player that player gets 1 poison counter"
Seed the Land just gives you and your opponent a 1/1 snake token for each land played. both for helping you block useless stuff, and to take advantage of killing them in another way besides poison.
Terror, Dark Banishing, Putrify, and Horabi's Whisper are just to take down any creature that might hurt your creatures. or you might spare one of them to put your poor Genesis out of it's misery of being alive and not dead.
Rite Of Passage is there to make your creatures much stronger as they get hurt.
Doubling season, means that when you get a counter put on a creature that amount is doubled. the same goes for creature tokens. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The deck playes around the counters, all three, +1/+1, poison, and the snake tokens. most of the cards in the deck are pretty inexpensive, so your biggest problem is getting enough cards from your hand into play. when i playtested this deck it sometimes takes a few turns to get going, but poison decks are about the strategy not the speed, so while it's not eh fastest deck around, it'll make your opponent squirm.
some modifications could include dropping Green and adding white, red, or blue. White adds more creature destroying and pacifism, Damage prevention, and protection from colors. in addition to Leeches. a Sorcery for 1WW that removes all poison counters from target player, and that player loses one life for each poison counter removed. Glory would make for a very nice card to add here. jsut drop it like Genesis and give your creatures protection and attack with your unblockable creatures.
Red adds burn spells as well as ways to destroy your opponents resources. Land Destruction makes a nice combo with this because then your opponent can't play creatures that can pick off your poor creatures with superior firepower. as a nice bonus Red has powerful creatures that for the cost of being kind of on the negative side for abilities are cheap to play and will get you closer to killing your opponent by both loss of life and/or poison
Blue on the other hand adds unblockability and card drawing, Counterspell, and flying. as Counters go you don't need to add any creatures with this color, merely adding counters after counters will probably be enough to screw with your opponents brain. Wonder makes a nice touch here because your opponent can't do a whole lot against flying if you keep the creature destruction and target the flyers, or you can add the Cephalid Pathmage, or Crafty pathmage, both will seal your opponents fate with your unblockable creatures.

Just wondering, why hasn't anyone used Whispersilk Cloak to make the poisonous creatures unblockable?

fakestreet japoniano Just wondering, why hasn't anyone used Whispersilk Cloak to make the poisonous creatures unblockable? because dealing direct damage is easier than attacking =P and people expect that in a poison deck. so it makes sense to utilize stronger bases for poison then just unblockable.
