Dedrick had an asthma attack recently and seems to be effected by cigarette smoke. The problem being so much of my family smokes that it's hard to take him to visit any one with out exposing him to a lot of cigarette smoke.
My grandmother smokes and the two other people living with her also smokes. It's starting to get too cold for us to visit and have him stay outside. I would have them go over my mom's house to visit, but my mom drives her family up the wall. I know I can't forbid them from smoking in their own home and even if they didn't smoke while he was there they chain smoke when he isn't so the smoke is already there.
Then there's Greg's family who even though I told him about it seem to think if they're outside the smoke will magically go away from him. They walk up to him smoking because obviously the non-existant wind is going to make it all better. I've just not been bringing him to see family to avoid drama and to avoid asthma attacks.
What else can I do?

Sadly, what you're already doing may be all you can do. sad
Do they just outright refuse to not smoke when your son is around? I know quite a few smokers become defensive about their smoking and not everyone believes that asthma is a valid illness...that it could kill him.
If you've tried to explain to them how it works, why it's important and they're all unwilling to cease smoking for a short visit, then you're already doing all you can. If you have no-smoking rules at your house, you can try to get them to visit you.
(And I happen to have asthma that is triggered by smoke as well and know how hard it can be and how big of asses others can be when they decide to get their hackles raised about it, so I can sympathize if that's the case. sweatdrop )

I love my family, but I don't think they plan on changing their ways. My Aunt got annoyed when I even alluded to the fact that they're the reason he had his first asthma attack.
What's really funny is I took him Trick or Treating and was trying to get some of the parents in our group to not smoke around my son. So, I told them that you know cigarette smoke is one of his triggers. While in the process of lighting up a cigarette one of the mom's told me her son has asthma too. rolleyes
Like I said though even if my grandmother didn't smoke they smoke so much that they actually leave a layer on the cabinets.
I know they have no qualms smoking around people who have asthma because they smoke around me. I have asthma too.
