_________________________ Within the Gaian Government is the Justice Department. Those who judge the law of the land. With a unanimous vote, they can overturn a law. With a majority vote, they can determine a civil or criminal case. With a descision, they can change the face of the Laws of Gaia. _________________________ The High CourtThe High Court is the highest court in the land.. hence the name. It is run by five Justices, one of whom is the Chief Justice. The Chief Justice is the one who gets things moving, the Justice who decides their position last, and the one who moderates all the proceedings of the Supreme Court. The Justices are four people selecte by their great ability for discernment. They have an equal vote in a case, and can attempt to convince the other Justices of their position. The positions are declared from the far right of the Chief Justice to the right. The High Court may decide if a case that is proposed to be brought before them should be decided in the High Court or in the Low Court. The Low Court is a court environment with one of the Justices and a Prosecution and Defense Lawyer. The High Court may not overturn a Low Court decision, as the High Court determined the matter should be settled in the Low Court instead of the High Court. However, the High Court may review an arrest or decision by the higher ranks of the Gaian Police Department, and determine whether it should be overturned. __________________________ JusticesChief Justice - Bolt Decker - ((Bolt)) Justice - Not yet filled. This model I developed myself to try and make it less relient on one man. The Chief Justice has no real power, except in the instance of a tie with the other four Justices. Positions: (Reminds me of a Character List before you read a Play)
Chief Justice - "Bolt" Decker Justice - Justice - Justice - Justice - High Court Bailiff - Low Court Bailiff - Low Court Bailiff - Court Defense Lawyer -
NPCs: Secretary - At Front Desk Security Guards are posted throughout the building. All in all there are about 20 of them. Each of the guards carries a P13, a taser, and a nightstick. ______________________________
The Layout:
There is a white building in the middle of Barton Town. The building is fitted with ionic columns in the front of it. Five columns, representing the five Justices. Above the columns, and below the roof, is the motto. It reads:
"Justice for All People."
Under the motto is the front doors of the building. The large wooden doors are of a dark color, seemingly old. Once inside of the building, the lobby tapers to a small area where you must pass through a metal detector in order to reach the main lobby. When through, you will come upon the front desk where a woman is sitting at a computer. She can tell you of court proceedings or verdicts from the past. Behind her are the large doors of the High Court. There is a security guard standing next to it, watching to make sure no one dangerous enters the court. Inside the High Court there is a large area of woden chairs for people to sit and watch. Friends of the accused, friends of the victims, or government personnel who wishes to see the ruling. The ceilings are high, and there are fire sprinklers all about. The room is white, despite the wooden fixtures all over. The front of the room has the Bailiff standing next to the Bench, where all five Justices sit. In front of each is a microphone so the room can hear them clearly. In front of the justices, on the floor are two long tables. At one table sits the Defense, at the other sits the Prosecution. There is a lone wooden partition, no larger then four feet high, blocking off the spectators from the front.
The Low Courts are down the hall from the High Court, both on he left and right. The Low Court looks almost exactly like the High Court but smaller, and with only a bench for one justice at a time. There are still Bailiffs in each. In the front of each courtroom, there is the motto of the Justice Department.
((Special thanks to Dante Decker for help with the description and... other things. ^_^)) [More to come soon.]

Security Systems and Defenses [NOTE:The Justice Department accepts the Unified Magic Theory, and as such prevents almost all "magical" assaults via a complex system of runes.]
WEAPONRY
The Justice Department is a branch of the Gaian Government. As such, they have a defense contract with ALPHAtech Industries. ALPHAtech has graciously provided each guard with a P13 .40 Pistol. They have also given the Justice Department 4 Pulse Carbines with GP-30 40mm Grenade Launchers attached and 2 PCX-1's. These weapons are in no way used by the Justice Department are purely defensive in nature.
PANIC SYSTEM
Yes, Panic System. There is a button in each of the Justice's office that is openable only by a key each of them have. The button, when pushed, activates the Panic System in the entire building. This alerts the GA that the Justice Department is under attack by a hostile force, and lowers Titanium slabs in each of the windows [see section labeled WINDOWS].
DOORS
The doorways to the Justice Department are mostly in the front. There is a single back exit that is about 3" of titanium-alloy and mechanically and electronically locked. The electric lock is a pad of number that requires a number to be put in. This door can not be opened from the outside, unless by serious force. In the even that the door is opened without the correct code or it is force open, an alarm will sound throughout the building, notifying the guards. The guards will then proceed to contact the GPD about such a criminal action. Should power fail in the building, the electronic lock will deactivate, allowing any possible hostages an escape. All the doors of the Justice Department are equipped with titanium plates about half an inch long sandwiched between the wooden exterior. The doors to the Justice's offices are all fitted with locks requiring a keycard.
WINDOWS (Not the OS... stare )
There are some windows in the offices. The windows are two sets of un-openable bullet-proof glass. When the Panic System is engaged, a titanium slab falls through the inside, offering increased protection that bullet-proof glass can not defend against.
COURTROOM
Within the courtroom itself are wood furnishings. There is a wooden rail seperating the spectators (for lack of a better word) from the lawyers and such. There is a small area where the accused is kept seperate from the lawyers, where the bailiff stands next to. Across the middle of the courtrom, along the wooden fence seperating the room, there is about 8' of bulletproof glass. This will prevent any possible weapons that have been smuggled in from being used to kill any member of the court, and will also protect the accused from any danger. The doors of the court are reinforced with titanium plates on the inside of the wooden exterior [see section labeled DOORS].
MAGIC
The building itself is made of your everyday wood and titanium. The columns on the outside, however, each contain a Soul Gem inside of them. The Soul Gem's energy is spread throughout the building through a system of runic spells, to prevent teleportation of any kind into the Justice Department. In addition, the front doors have an archaic dark-elf spell written on them. Loosely translated it means:
"Magic of Black, Healing of White, Neither can heal, Nor can it fight."
Basically, the front doors are immune to direct Magic attacks. Conversly, it is immune to being shielded or healed by "magic' also. A laser, missile, or other kinds of energy or projectile weapon can work against it, though with the internal plate and Panic System [see section labeled PANIC SYSTEM] it would be rather frivolous.
ARMORY
This room is basically a secluded room full of life camera feeds from around the outside and inside of the building see section labeled CAMERAS]. Within the Armory is extra ammo for the guards, replacement tasers and nightsticks, and a control system for the Mounted PCX-1's. The PCX-1's are attacked to the front corners of the building and loxer from a crevice within the roof to fire upon any hostile target, when activated. The AI system is simple and can only read an IFF transponder to identify what unit is friendly or an enemy. Should a unit not be sending any IFF signal, the PCX-1's will assume it is hostile. On the outside of the Armory's door is a sign that says, "Employees Only," and is locked by a device which requires a keycard.
CAMERAS
There are cameras watching all hallways, entrances, and courtrooms. However, the inside of a Justice's office is not watced due to any confidential information that may be discussed behind the closed doors. The Camera feed is located in the Armory.

((I figured I might as well post the first post.. maybe get this place living..))
From the dark street, a man with a suitcase walked up the marble steps dressed in a rather new black suit with his brown hair slicked back and his blue eyes filled with determination. His shiny black shoes made a loud sound as they moved him casually up the stairs and into the large doors. He placed his suitcase onto the X-Ray machine's conveyor belt and walked through the metal detector. He then looked over to the security guards nearby and gave a sincere smile, "Hello guys, how's the job working out?"
They smiled back, handing him his suitcase and waving him in, "It's great, Mr. Decker. Thank you for personally hiring us."
"Call me Bolt," He laughed, "we needed good guards and you all had the highest ratings. I look forward to long years of service."
With that, they thanked him again as he walked towards his office.

Bolt's office was a pretty bright place, despite all the hard wood and leather bound books. A few ferns graced the place, giving it a very jungle-esque appearance. He set his suitcase down on the top of his desk, removing a few books off the wall. The first book was entitled, "Law: Precedents," The second was entitled, "Merck's Manual of Mystical Races and their Anatomy." He set the two books down on his desk, next to the suitcase, and sat down on the computer chair. Opening the suitcase, a glimmer of light poked through. It was a journal encased in gold. On the front it read, "Journal of the Beloved."
He set the journal aside, sighing and taking out some paperwork. He needed to ensure the guards were armed and the perimiter secure from foolish attack. The Justice Department had a contract with ALPHAtech for them to provide weaponry and defense equipment for the building. Also, as of late, there have been glitches with the Panic System. Apparently only Bolt's button did anything. He needed to get that fixed before any problems arose. third problem with the Justice Department was that the Soul Gem that powered the building's magical defenses was not running it's course to the back door. For the time being, the magical teleportation defenses were still operational, but the back door was not immune to magic attacks. Bolt sighed, writing out the list and required equipment to fix each of the problems. This Department would take a lot of work. Perhaps he could contact another branch of the GG for assistance?
