So. . . whose participating this year? Have you participated before? If not, and you know about it, why aren't you?
Do you not know about NaNo?
Well, let me explain. NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to write a 50,000 word (aprox. 175 page) novel in 30 days. This may sound like a daunting task, but thousands of people around the world achieve this task every year. The point of the 30 day limit is to force you to forgo editing and changing the writing as you go. The novel is meant to have a lot of crap in it, and it's meant to take turns you never expected and develop in ways you never ever dreamt of thinking about because it was so ludicrous. NaNo is meant to encourage you to write the crazy things you would otherwise never consider because it was. . . well. . . too crazy. Here, it doesn't matter.
People around the world walk into November as normal people, but they walk away novelists. If there was every a time when you thought, "Hey, I could/want to/should/whatever write a novel!" then now is the time to pick up your pen and bore down over your keyboard and take a crack at it. Remember, this novel doesn't have to be something you'd want to publish, in fact, it's kinda supposed to NOT be something you'd even want to think about letting people see. It's supposed to be the kind of thing you'd end up shoving into the very depths of your closet and hiding and forgetting about, because you're too afraid to even throw it away, for fear someone will see your ridiculousness. At least, that's what I tell friends when they say that their ideas are too weird. *shrug*
Now, who is gonna join me on my 30 day adventure through 50k words, the ups and downs of a novel, insomnia, caffeine-highs, sugar-lows, plot diversions, muse-abandonment, procrastination, and more? I'm looking forward to it, how 'bout you?
Also, if I haven't convinced you, at least check out the site (link above) before you say no. I'm not a good spokesman. . . so I may not be selling my product right. But at least try it before you knock it. And if what frightens you away the most is the 50k mark, then don't worry. You don't HAVE to reach 50k. I've been doing this for. . . well, this will be my third year, and I have yet get even 40k. But that's fine. It's not a contest, and you don't get anything for winning (aka, reaching 50k), save a certificate saying you hit 50k. It's meant to be a self-gratification thing. Anyway, a lot of people set lower, or even higher, goals for themselves. NaNo is completely adjustable to one's life and schedule and capabilities.
*can think of nothing else to say*
So, I hope to see you guys at the starting line of this thing. I know I'll be counting down the minutes to midnight tonight. I'm planning on getting waaay ahead of the game by getting 10k by sunday night. I know I prolly won't, but hey, way to push the limit, right? *crosses fingers* here's to hoping!
Best of luck to all!!! <3
ps, sorry this is kinda last minute, but my internet has been down. I've been meaning to check and see if there was a thread for the past few days but I havent' been able to get to the library.
Also, I'm sorry if there has already been a thread made about NaNo. If so, please, feel free to shut down this one (if you like) and direct me to the old one. 3nodding and I apologize in advance for not finding it, if is does exist.
