I hate this weather. Stealth's voice was fervent in her disgust, and the small lizard-daemon wriggled her way further down into Althalus's collar, desperate for the heat. Althalus just grinned, burying his nose in his scarf. "You're a wuss, sweetheart." He said softly, not wanting to attract that much attention to himself as he padded down a street, breath hanging in the damp autumn air. I'm not! Can't we just go find somewhere nice and warm to stay for a while? Come on, seriously. Garrick's jobs are crap anyway. "My, such language," and Althalus acted mock surprised, voice uncanny in its impression of their erstwhile guardian Kel. You quit that. Stealth hmphed, annoyed, and fell silent, tail curled around his throat.
Faced with the grumpy silence of his daemon, the Forgotten boy sighed. Perhaps she was right. Doing simple errands for the thief he was apprenticed to was not quite the glamourous job he'd expected, but he supposed it made up for some of the cool things he -did- learn. Pattering over to a nearby wall corner, Althalus readjusted his gloves and then ran his fingers over the stonework. The thin, deliberate scratches of the city's thiefsign told him of loud dogs two streets away, and the bodyguards around the banker's house, and something else he didn't remember. Really should study that more... ah, here was something. A quiet place to lie low, with a good roof for climbing.
"We'll go somewhere a bit drier, huh?" He announced quietly, and then loped through the streets towards where the sign had indicated. The building wasn't difficult to spot; a heavy stone sign hung over a lichen-encrusted portico for a public library. "Oh...!" The Forgotten part of the boy had always been fascinated by books of any kind. He couldn't help it. Collections of books were reminiscent of the older, huger Library where he had been born. "Let's go inside instead, huh?" Sounds good to me, Stealth said more cheerfully, black eyes glinting as she raised her head a little out of his scarf.
Althalus grinned, and then trotted up the couple of stairs to slip inside the old, dry building. Killing time here for an hour wouldn't harm him.

Tom...was bored... very bored. The books had utterly insuficient pictures, and Mum wouldn't let him read the -really- good ones. She just didn't understand these things. Then again neither, he thought, did Creature who kept trying to tug him back to sit with Mum, who was currently pulling her hair out searching through books about kids...-must- be about Obi, she'd caught him eating a -mouse- the other day. Well...-he- thought it was marvelous but -she- screamed almost as loud as when she found him playing in the kitchen. Mothers....they were such -strange- things.
//Your going to be in trouble again, your going to get hurt!// Scolded Creature
"Uh uh..." He insisted and slipped free of his coat since the fox had a good hold of it. "I wana find the -good- books!" he informed her, too young for the big ones, and too old, he felt, for -just- picture books.
'Illustrated anatomy' read one...
"What's....ananomy" he asked creature...
//NOT for you// she retorted trotting to catch up, a mouthful of lantern and coat.
"That means its GOOD!" he said tugging at it.
//THOMAS!! I'll tell your MOTHER!//
"Mum can't hear you" He informed her.
//I'll bark!//
((sorry! It's been a while <3))

Althalus shook himself cheerfully, padding through the aisles and unwinding his scarf.
Don't do that! I'll get cold! "More fool you then," he retorted quietly, and then grinned, looking for a nice comfy chair to sit in to pass the time. Garrick's errand could defintely wait for a while.
You are a reprehensible ingrate, scolded Stealth sharply, her skin fading to match his skin colour now that she was theoretically visible. I don't know why -
She broke off, head moving sharply to look to the side. Althalus tensed. What is it? I hear another daemon. Really? Well we are in a library, I guess. Like that should make a difference. Don't be snarky, idiot.
Althalus peered curiously around a corner, and indeed, there was a young child with pale hair, trying to peer at a book that his foxlike-daemon was pulling him away from. Unattended? Maybe their guardian was just around the corner or something. Ah well...
"Hey, small stuff." Althalus trotted over to crouch by the younger boy, and grinned. "Whatcha reading?"

Tom glanced up with a blink, and then beamed. "ANANOMY!" He declared and the fox bristled and moved to try and sit on the book only to be pushed off it again. "Kina..." He added. He paused and looked lost in thought. "M not small! I'm... little!...er..." he said and nodded "OBI is little...he ate a MOUSE" he nodded authoritatively as though this were the most -dreadfully- important information he could have imparted about 'Obi'.
"Obi hasn got a fox though... " he blinked and turned back to the book and pulled open the cover and made great show of gazing down at the pages while trying to pin the fox whom was working -very- hard to cover it with either herself or her tails.

"An..." Althalus squinted at the cover to read it. "Ohhhhh.... anatomy? Ick. You don't wanna read that." He peered at the daemon wriggling on the cover, looking a bit upset. "And what's your name, miss?" He grinned at the fox, and Stealth moved cautiously out onto his shoulder, blinking at the other daemon quietly. She was fairly sure that Obi was not her name, though she still looked like she could eat a mouse...

"Yah I do! Its good! see? They don let you read the good books!" he said with a little frown and shoved at the tinted lenses riding down his nose.
He Glanced at creature surprised that she was addressed and beamed widely. "She's -creature!-" he declared. "You knew she was a she!" he was delighted. The fox bobbed her head, the lantern in her teeth bobbed and flickered almost pleasantly her eyes drifting to watch the hard to see movement across the stranger's shoulder.
//Like the boy with the rabbit...// She blinked and glanced at Tom... //Like us I think...//
"You got one too?" Tom asked wide eyed.

Althalus stared a little at the boy's bizarre eyes, but then smiled to hide it. "Yeah. I guess you and I are a bit alike, hmm? Cause me and Stealth, we're always together. Libraries are awesome, right?" He sat down properly on the floor, curling his feet underneath him, curious. Stealth reluctantly faded her colour back to a normal, bronze-brown shade, making her much more visible against the dusty black of her Forgotten's tunic shoulder.
They've got a lantern too, Althie. I see it, duh. I wonder if that means anything?
"Oh," He remembered to bow his head courteously. "Hello Creature. And what's your name? Mine's Althalus, and this snarky one here is Stealth."

((Can they hear each other's Daemon? I just realized I have no idea!))
"TOM!" he said proudly..."Or Thomas when I'm in trouble...or um...THOMAS PUT THAT DOWN" when I'm -realllly- in trouble" He nodded. "She's pretttyyy..." He pointed to Stealth. He looked thoughtful again while Creature eyed you both cautiously as though weighing in her judgments of you. "Librarys are kinda cool...but, I don wana read the little books no more, I wana read the big ones cause I'ma BIG boy, Im Older than Obi! But...they got no pictures...I like the pictures still" he confessed almost embarrassed. What books do YOU like?"

((Most people play that daemons can talk to other daemons. :3 Young daemons talk on a... public level? Where both their Forgotten and other daemons can hear them? Otherwise it's a general choice of the daemon whether to talk to their Forgotten, or to other daemons. To be fair, I've seen it played where some daemons seem to speak out loud for anyone to hear, so in the end, it's your choice. But I'm fairly certain that daemons can speak to other daemons. smile ))
Althalus giggled. "Thomas, huh? Good name. And Stealth is gorgeous, as always." He sounded airy. You know, that would be a lot nicer if I didn't know you were being completely insincere. Stealth's voice was snippy, mouth opening in a silent hiss. "And yeah, I like pictures too, you know. But the writing is so much more interesting! You can do all sorts of stuff with letters." The thief boy grinned. "I like books about adventures. Who's Obi?"

((Cool cool <3 Thankies!))
"I like...I like books with dwagons....and foxes" he added quickly looking at Creature. "Obi is...is the new one" He nodded "He's got wings...and...an he ate the mouse, cuase um... the Moggy said... um...I ferget...but I thought it was -cool-"
//He is part owl it seems... // the Daemon informed with a twitch of her tail. //See Thomas? He likes the words...you should try them//
"Their -hard-" frowned Tom...
//Keeping you out of -trouble- is Hard...// the Fox's ears dropped.
"Is not trouble! I was 'sploring!" He folded his arms. ... "...stupid words..." he folded his arms.

Althalus grinned at the disjointed conversation, taking a coin from his pocket and flipping it idly. "You went exploring, huh? Find anywhere interesting? Find any-thing- interesting?" He sounded genuinely curious, still examining the odd-looking child. Stealth tipped her head towards Creature, voice rueful. Your one a handful too, then?

Thomas nodded enthused his eyes flicking over the shine of the coin with the glee of ...well...a child. "I found a secret place under the stairs, two marbles, and...um...um the place Obi spitted up his mouse bones, Mum said they were dirty...and um... I can climb!"
//He found he kitchen knives...// Creature said dryly her ears folding back. //and he still dosen't understand....//
"Thier just -fussy-...are you a pirate?! You gots treasure!"

The kitchen knives? Not pretty. Althalus has a knife, and Stealth sounded somewhat smug. Got one for his birthday last year.
"Marbles are cool. And no! I'm not a pirate." Althalus leaned forward, stage whispering. "I just... pick things up here and there, yanno? Want to see a trick?"
The boy made a few grandiose gestures, dusted his palms together, and the coin vanished.

"Woahhhhhh" Tom Gawped at the vanishing coin "Yor MAGIC!" He boggled. Creature groaned.... "What?" He demanded waving his hand at the fox-thing. "You saw!"
//We saw what we were supposed to see...// she grumbled...
"Your no fun... don't tell!" He scowled at her.
//Are they all this much trouble I wonder// Creature shook her head and eyed stealth sympathetically...

Well done, Althie, you managed to deceive a small child. I can see the applause now. Stealth's voice was sarcastic and only for the ears of her Forgotten, her skin fading again. "Shush, you," the boy murmured, but grinned, leaning back. "Now where coulda that gone, huh? Oh!" And he pulled the coin from his pocket with a look of surprise. Unfortunately, the grip from his palm to his fingers was clumsy, and the coin clattered as it fell to roll between them.
Althalus slapped his hand down quickly over the coin, and laughed ruefully, smiling at Tom. "Whoops. Dropped it."
