We never hear the tapes, the BD just chews us out for what's (supposedly) on it.
We always hear what the judges are saying on the feild, though. No matter how loud we blow our brains out, no matter how fast we pass by, we can always hear what the judge has to say.
And it really helps. If we hear a positive comment, it's a confidence booster. If it's negative, we pick ourselves up as quickly as possible to prove them wrong.

We did a judging simulation on last year's band, and our director told us that you're never supposed to mention anything out of your caption...
...well, we went to a marching show (at Evergreen, coincidentially, Ocastra) two weeks ago, and the music effect judge in the middle of our 1st production said "nice silks [flags]". Later in the show, he started talking about how he didn't understand the color of the backdrops, which actually matched the color of the flags that he had commented on earlier.
Also, in the middle of the 2nd production, the flutes and clarinets switch to brass instruments. Originally, they went behind the backdrops, and NOBODY noticed. Only one judge went later, "Wait a minute...you guys don't have any clarinets...that's weird."
