This thread will explain all you need to know about the Profile's forum. I know, some of you are probably going 'what is a profile? Why is this forum even here?'
Well, read on and I'll tell you what it all means...

I shall start with the basics, profiles are references to your character. They tell you what you had in mind for them when you created them. They also show you things such as a detailed description, personality and other such facts and intrigues into your character. The more details the profile, the better the character's usually are. This is the standard profile: (Would not be in a quote, unless you wanted it to be) Quote: Character Name: Age: Gender: Appearance: Personality: Just because this is standard doesn't mean that it actually is required or the only profile around. Some might include facts such as greatest fear, favorite food, color preferences, and even whom your character is in love with!

Now, I know some of you are probably wondering why you would, or should, post a profile of you character. Well, the reason you would consider this is as a record for yourself and those you are role playing with.
I can see this too: Why would I want the other role players to know my character this well? THEY WILL USE THIS INFO AGENST ME!
Well, a good role player would see what you can do and who your character really is from time to time so that they can understand why you react the way you do. It is kinda a double check system. If you say your character has the powers to freeze water or is deathly afraid of spiders, and you start boiling water with your powers instead and are hugging spiders, they could ask why you are doing that when they aren't mentioned in your profile. You might be having an oops moment. Happens from time to time.
At the same time, if you say your weak to fire damage, no player should instantly know this, unless you agreed to them having a history with you, and even then their character might not even know this fact if you kept it hidden from them. If a complete stranger starts to throw fire at you because he knows you are weak to it, then HE is the one out of place. That information is there so that the leader of the role play can challenge your character correctly. There is no sense in them not knowing your weaknesses, as they should be challenging your character with things, like maybe a flaming wall you have to leap over, unless you want to get rolled over with that boulder... will you leap over your fear? Or will you just stand there is fear and get crushed anyway?

Now that I have explained why the profiles have their uses, and are rather important, I shall go into how you can start creating some of these yourself. (Not all role plays require profiles, they just help things allot is all.)
To start off with, create your own thread for all your profiles. How do you do that you ask? Well, I'll tell you. The secret is to press the top button that says, 'create new thread'.
Once you click, a window will open. Looks similar to a normal post? Good, you seem on the right track then.
The first line of the window that you can type into is the title. Fill it in with your Gaia name and the word profile. EX: Gaia's Profiles If you can come up with a witty title that still registers as you, then by all means have a little fun with it! EX: Tesunie's Many Personalities Tesunie's Faces The characters and logs of Tesunie the Great! (Not so great... but funny)
You get the idea? You can be a basic or creative as you wish to here. Have fun, that is rule number one with role playing. (And make sure everyone else is having fun as well too while your at it.)

Got a title? Well, the nest text box down is your space. Fill it in. You can post a picture, type something about yourself, write a poem, or even start placing profiles in right away.
I would suggest leaving the very first post as something you like. You can edit this post, but it can never be deleted.
Once you have something in the box, your ready to post it up on the forum. You can either set up a poll (optional) or not, is up to you. Polls can grant members that look into your profile thread some gold, which is nice, if they vote. It doesn't really mean anything else, unless you have a question you want set to the poll. If your lucky, people will vote their answer and you could see what other's think.

Alright. Now we have a thread that is all yours. You can do pretty much whatever you want in there. Place character profiles, pictures, notes on a role play, ideas for characters, ideas for a new role play... it is fairly well open.
If you wanted to, you could even make a profile thread for each character, and turn each thread into a character journal. It might be the character's personal diary, a place where the character logs in what happens within their story, a place where they keep their personal thoughts.
Maybe they don't like that ex-thief scoundrel, but would never say it out loud. They might write this feeling into their own journal. They could go on how they miss their long lost father or how annoying their younger sister has been as of late. This is just another tool to help you stay in character, and who knows? It might be fun. If anyone ever needs an overview of what happened, your character journal might be an interesting place to send them. Or if the role play dies, it might be something worth making a forum about. Then others can see the awesomeness of that old role play and might start a new chapter in that world!

As a final note on the subject, when posting profiles in the role play, and in the profile thread you have new created, I suggest linking the two posts together. What I mean is link your profile thread to the role play. You remember that base profile I posted before hand? I should have added in another section. It should have looked like this... at least within the profile thread for your own reference: Quote: Name of Role Play: Character Name: Age: Gender: Appearance: Personality: A sample character profile with this might look like this: Quote: Name of Role Play: Cateran http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=7244063&page=1Character Name: Tesunie Age: 16 Gender: Male Appearance: Has blue hair and blue eyes. Usually is seen wearing loose, comfortable shirts, even when it isn't in style. Personality: Overly kind and caring, once he has made a friend he rarely will lose one. See the blue text? That is a link. How did I get it you ask? I simply copied the text (web address or URL) of the page I was on for the role play. Now, when you click on the blue text, it should open a new window in your browser (or tab possibly, depending upon settings) and the role play that character is in should be in that window. This helps when you are coming back after a short break, or if your role play you are in has been bumped off the page. All you have to do to find what character belongs to what role play is to simply click the link you provided yourself. If you leave it blank, it might become difficult for you to find your long lost role play. Some character you might even ask, 'where did you come from?' Yeah, I have a few of them... don't let it happen to you.

Still a little lost? Well, simple solution for you. PM ME! I'll help you out even more if something here doesn't make sense to you. If absolutely needed, I can make the thread for you!
Also, if you need any posts deleted or anything (like if someone else posts within your character profile thread and you don't want that post there, or it isn't needed anymore) let me know. I can delete, edit or alter any one's post within the guild. (Do not fear, I will not do so without a very good reason or without asking permission first. I will not just start messing things up on you.)
If you can't figure out how to PM me, then you may post your question here in this thread. I can't fix things if I don't know I did something wrong, so let me know if there are points in this guide that confuse you.
