It is a sport. Because I haer some of the people on the football team comblaining about two hour practices that have a lot of running and carrying heavy objects. I march bass drum(Nonetheless the heaviest on) and have to run back to my starting position every rep, and have to do that for FOUR HOURS. I'd like to see them try that.
(Summerization: Yes, it's a sport)

Yup. Otherwise why would we have physical training over the summer? Besides, if golf is considered a sport then we should be too.

They're always announcing football or swim or volleyball. Band gets nothing. They took away the sport credit for marching. I think whoever makes these decisions don't know how much band actually supports the school. And have probably never played an instrument.

Or at least the people who pay attention to the football/swim announcements don't care. Making band a sport will not suddenly make it cool or accepted. Yes, band supports the school. So do choir and drama and other arts. Marching band is an art because you are performing music. I admit I always wished we got PE credit for band, but I knew it wouldn't be justified. I'm just lazy. :p

Ameethea ~ AGAINST ARGUMENT ~
Marching band is very similar to Drama. Both require a lot of out of class work and practice, along with memorization and dedication. However, in sports such as football, basketball, and volleyball, you can't anticipate or memorize where the ball is going to fall or how your opponents are going to run a their next play. In this sense, marching band shouldn't be a sport due to the fact that you can prepare and memorize the routines ahead of time, without the surprises and unpredictabilities that live sports present.
~ FOR ARGUMENT ~
On the other hand, since marching band requires running laps and lifting weights, it should be considered a sport, mainly because the major way to train for it is to exercise (and of course practice your instruments.. blah, blah, blah), simlar to regular sports. We also can win state titles like all school sports can. *All I can say is that we have an uncertainty factor aka the judges, tempo (at one performance we were at least 10 above and another 10 below what we practice at), and whether you will get hit in the head by a flag or not (it has happened a couple times, but never at a performance) *Our band has over 3 trophy cabinets that are overflowing with our awards (mostly 3rd place and above) that nobody sees because they are in our practice rooms, but nobody but the band members seem to care (and even some of them don't)
