Persephone glided along in the air, close enough to the ground that she could pump her legs and look like she was walking, but high enough that her claws didn't brush the ground. Her legs tucked under her body, she flew through the air like a snake.
Her quarry darted from tree to tree in front of her, always just a little out of her reach. She made a lunge for the creature and missed, it blended back into the trees; she halted.
"Oh Moss, where are you my dear?" she called in a falsely sweet voice.
A warbling laugh came from above her, the only warning before a heavy object impacted with her head, pushing her roughly to the ground. Moss sat on her companion's neck, laughing to herself. A whisper like the wind came out of her mouth as she exclaimed, "Got you!"
Persephone grumbled, the butterflies that usually crowded around her and Moss had flown far away during the rough housing and she knew they wouldn't be back for a while.
She shoved herself up with her forelegs as Moss clung to her neck. Looking ahead of her, she noticed a curious change in the colors of the leaves. It looked almost too perfect of a division, on one side everything was green, Summer colors abundant, on the other side of it the leaves were many shades of orange, red, and yellow.
"Wow, I wonder what caused this?" she mumbled to herself, floating up and approaching the border with Moss bouncing on her head, delighted to be getting a piggy-back ride.
