A basket arrives just a few days short of Christmas, in the same manner as the basket that had originally arrived with the request to be filled. Many goodies are inside!

Quote:
The basket was stuffed rather haphazardly, obviously by untrained hands. It was filled with girly trinkets and little gifts. Among the items were. . .

- A bedazzled butterfly pin
- A snuggly purple bunny
- A soft patch-work blanket
- Another beautiful butterfly

Winter Rainbow Set
Also, warm rainbow gloves, hat, and scarf prefect for winter play (or out on the ice)!

Attached to the handle of the basket was a note scrawled in bright green crayon.

M3RrY CHRISMASS!!!

“There’s an ocean between us
You know where to find me
You reach out and touch me
I feel you in my heart
More than a lifetime
Still goes on forever
But it helps to remember
You’re only an ocean away”

- Only An Ocean Away, Sarah Brightman

A New Passion

Ismerauda Fenmoore did not remember her old life. She spoke with an accent learned during that life and she lamented over the passionate pursuit of that life but she did not truly remember it. Her sadness over watching others skate and knowing she never truly could – what with her weakness and odd legs – was disheartening but the child was not entirely sure why.

Hatty had been very concerned about his daughter, trying to get her to open up about what was upsetting her or find something to concentrate on. For some reason, music had seemed a good idea so he’d sent her to a music store with Bella and Adele. Still, it had not helped the child much as she wasn’t totally sure what sort of music she was supposed to look into.

The breakthrough had finally come a few days after New Years when she and Alice had been channel surfing. The toddler had been curled up with the purple bunny plush she’d gotten for Christmas – affectionately dubbed Snoogles - and her big sister. They’d just been going through to see what interesting specials might be on when they came to a show that seemed to be a grown-up play only with singing. However, unlike the musicals they were used to seeing, this had strange singing with long, oddly held notes. And the main lady was fat with a horned hat and a metal bra! How odd!

As the entrancing special progressed, Ismerauda found herself attempting to sing along. She wasn’t well practiced or trained and didn’t know the notes, but she was starting to figure out how to push her voice high and hold out the funny sounding words. Alice had been amused, clapping at points when Issy did it, but couldn’t really bring herself to sing along. She wasn’t much of a singer at all.

Hatty had come home during this display and had caught his daughter belting along with the final solo. It was rather cute and interesting to hear all at once. He hadn’t figured something like Opera would be to Issy’s tastes but she seemed to be having fun, and her accent actually worked decently with the words they were saying.

Before the week was out, he’d gotten some CDs of opera songs and some of showtunes, as well as some sheet music with lyrics for some songs, and a few samples of bands that were into mixing rock and opera. It was funny at first but soon Ismerauda was starting to wonder if this might just be something she’d want to get into. So far it was pretty appealing. Hm…
“Wishing you were somehow here again
Wishing you were somehow near
Sometimes it seemed
If I just dreamed
Somehow you would be here
Wishing I could hear your voice again
Knowing that I never would
Dreaming of you
Won’t help me to do
All that you dreamed I could”

- Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, Sarah Brightman

“Who do you want to be today?
Who do you want to be?
Who do you want to be today?
Do you want to be just like someone on TV?
Oh boredom is so terrible
It’s like a dread disease
Nothing could be worse
Than when there’s nothing on TV
I’d rather be a cowboy
Than to stare blank at the wall
I’ve been bored so many times
I can’t remember them all”

- Who Do You Want To Be Today, Oingo Boingo

A Change in Clothes and Looks

Having long hair can be a huge pain, Ismerauda was starting to find out. She’d first started regretting it after a night where she’d forgotten to brush her hair directly after her bath. The child had woken up to a mass of tangled brown and she had to have it brushed out painfully for a good half an hour till it decided to behave.

The long hair on her tail wasn’t as big of a problem to deal with. She had no feeling in her tail so she could safely brush out tons of tangles and, apart from it being a hassle, it didn’t hurt too much. When she brushed tangles out of her long locks, the girl usually ended up in tears. The Hiccup was especially tender-headed so long hair up there was a problem. The fur on her legs and her tail were just fine to deal with but the long ponytail was an issue.

Other annoying problems with styling it and keep it in shape had started to become more and more noticeable to her after that. Honestly she was just getting so sick of this ponytail. Especially when it came to all the time she had to spend dealing with a hairbrush just on a regular basis.

The final straw had come during a shopping trip with Bella and Alice. They’d been planning on getting some new coats and dress material but while walking down the street, disaster struck. A boy had been running behind them, shouting to his friends and chewing gum. He’d accidentally tripped and spit his gum out and it had, of course, landed in Issy’s ponytail.

The next few moments were agonizing for the child. Bella and Alice had tried to help her get the sticky stuff out of her hair but to no avail. There was really only one thing that would be able to be done. She would have to lose the majority of her hair. Usually, only the end with the gum in it would need to be trimmed but it had landed high up on her ponytail so she was already losing quite a bit of it.

They’d eventually found a salon that took walk-ins and Issy was able to have her problem dealt with. The ladies were all very nice and sweet to her, showing the child magazines with pictures of hairstyles to choose from, and being very gentle with her. Ismerauda saw several that were lovely but none that quite struck her.

When a style finally struck her as right, it was one found in a drawing. The image was an ad for some artist chick’s animation expo and it featured an image of a rather good-looking blonde man and a dark haired woman in what seemed to her to be an old-timey (20s-40s esque) setting. The man was drinking but the woman – who had the hair Issy liked – was dancing with some guy who had money sticking out of his pocket. A pretty neat little image, really, but the most fascinating bit was the hairstyle of the girl.

The stylist who had been helping Issy blinked a bit at the cover of the magazine. “I didn’t know we had any copies of ‘Beyond the Fourth’ left. Oh well, anyway that’s the style you want? It’ll look cute on you dearie.” She said and immediately got to work on treating, cutting and styling the hiccup’s hair.

Soon enough the child was out of the chair and admiring her new style. It was cute, light, fluffy, and a lot easier to manage so she was told. That definitely seemed nice, and she could fit her hat on right! Two for one deal!

So, in high spirits, the child left the salon to continue shopping for new clothes with her sisters. Well, Daddy was sure gonna be surprised when they got home.

“Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory
Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember
Things my heart used to know
Things it yearns to remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December”

- Once Upon A December, Anastasia Movie

“I don’t know what color your eyes are, baby
But your hair is long and brown
Your legs are strong and you’re so so long
And you don’t come from this town
My head is full of magic, baby
And I can share this with you
I feel I’m on the cross again, baby
But that’s got nothing to do with you”

- So Alive, Love & Rockets

Big News and Cheesecake

Well, Daddy had definitely been surprised when Ismerauda came home with hair so much shorter than she’d had when she left. He’d been a little annoyed with them for not telling him first, but when they told him the reason, he was easily relaxed again. Adele had thought it was neat, for the record.

Apart from that little bout of strangeness, routine had remained the same for a while. That was until Hatty came home with some rather news that would change how they’d been living. Previously, the family had been residing in a pair of penthouse apartment suites at a rather upscale building, but it seemed there were just too many kids about to remain there. So, Harriet proposed that they move and the looking at of houses began.

One particular house – a rather large mansion being sold for unbelievably cheap – stood out to them. It was beachfront property and apparently the house was a bit haunted. The children had gone to visit it with their father and ended up meeting some of the ghosts residing around – a bunch of hula dancers, fire eaters, and generally partying people who’d all been too unwilling to stop partying even when death called them. There was even a gorgeous bikini clad babe in the attic (the room Adele had wanted for himself) who seemed to be making great friends with the cat boy (something about having similar taste in men).

The next big change had been in a request Harriet had made to his long-time girlfriend – Riulve. He’d invited her and her children to live with them in whatever home they were going to. And it seemed part of the reason was due to something she’d told him – Ri and Hatty were going to have a baby together. The little ones had been ecstatic about that – Miss Riulve was very nice and she had cool children.

Eventually, they’d all worked out the living situation and were going to live in the haunted house. Adele still claimed the attic room, which no one begrudged him. All was starting to settle down again and that was good. Too much excitement for the Fenmoore family was just odd. Now all they had to wonder about was when the children would grow (one never knows on Gaia) and about Ri’s baby.

How’d the cheesecake work into all of this? Well, upon them moving in, the ghosts had tried to make them one as a welcome gift. Problem was that ghosts and cooking tangible food doesn’t always work together. It was a fun attempt to see though.

“Six o’clock already? I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissing Balentino by a crystal blue Italian stream
But I can’t be late cause then I guess I just won’t get paid
These are the days when you wish your bed was already made
It’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
Cause that’s my funday
My I don’t have to run day
It’s just another manic Monday”

Quest time!

The ice has melted, and spring has sprung in full bloom. With the passing of the seasons, Issy feels invigorated, and decides to try new things. A poster for a local recreational centre has been posted at the end of her street. Perhaps this can be fun! Have Issy spend a day at this rec centre, trying new things she may not have done before, when she was much girlier.

Good luck, little Hiccup!

“Maybe sometimes, we've got it wrong, but it's alright
The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same
Oh, don't you hesitate.
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.”

- Put Your Records On, Corinne Bailey Rae

Growth Quest: Learning New Things

Ismerauda sighed, glancing up at the large building before her. Really, she shouldn't be so scared of going in - it was just a Youth Center after all, and the rest of her family was having no issue entering it and actually seemed excited. Then again, they were generally a good bit excitable anyway and had been hyped up for this since she'd pointed the poster out to them. The girl wasn't the most proficient reader but she'd at least been able to tell the activities in the pictures were something her family'd find fun. She wasn't much for any of those activities, but at least the girl had thought her family would like to see. Sadly, they'd all decided it might be a fun thing to try as a family for the day.

So there she was, standing in front of the building, looking up at it and at her family waiting outside for her. With another sigh, the horse-girl slowly strode up the steps after her family. She was apprehensive about this and trying very hard not to show how much she didn't want to be there. Hatty smiled down at his daughter, walking back down to help her up the stairs. "It'll be okay, Issy. Just wait and see."

The brunette sighed quietly and held onto her Daddy's hand as they entered the building. Inside, he carefully shooed her forward to go look about and see what looked interesting. This was supposed to be a 'trial day' where they paid to get in and there were rooms with many of the basic activities set up so people could go in to try them and see what they were like sort of. It was a new thing for this center, mostly intended to keep people from signing up and then dropping out soon after because they didn't know what the program would be like.

The first room Ismerauda entered was for a gymnastics class. One of the main groups that took the actual class on a regular basis was at the front of the room, going through basic moves and helping out the kids who came in to see what things were like. The horse girl shyly walked over to one of the students who happened to not have anyone at present. The older female blinked in surprise when she spotted the toddler's feet.

"I don't know if this will completely work for you." she commented, indicating how most of the other students were showing kids a move that involved lifting one leg up a bit and stretching it. The woman tried to help Ismerauda with it, but as the girl started to raise her left leg in the stretch, her body immediately felt slightly stretched wrong and her hoofed foot immediately started jerking out of the woman's grasp and slammed back on the floor.

The child glanced apologetically up at her. "M'sorry." she said quietly, rushing away from the room before the lady could say anything more to her. That'd been scary and embarrassing.

The next room the little girl chose to enter was a large gym room with two large baskets at either end. Trainers were letting kids run around and bounce the orange balls, showing them how they were supposed to be bounced and put into the baskets. Like before, the horse girl tried to find an open trainer to help her out. This time it was a young man who smiled gently at her and was exceptionally helpful.

Issy felt odd holding that ball, standing there for a good few moments, just practicing how she was supposed to bounce it, how she was supposed to hold her hand and let it curve so she could cause the ball to return to her on each hit. This was all right! She could bounce this ball and it was okay! Things seemed to be going well until it came time to run over to the basket to shoot for the hoop.

The way things were going was there was a line of kids who'd run up, quickly shoot, run for their ball and go back. No time to ready a shot, and a lot of running and grabbing. And when one has the horrid aim of a newbie at this game, they do a lot of ball chasing. It wasn't long at all before Issy was resting against the wall and breathing deeply, her vision blurry as she felt super dizzy. No this was not the sport for her – too much running and grabbing was involved. Bidding a kind farewell to her trainer and passing the ball to another kid, the Hiccup slowly wandered on to see if she could find something else in another room.

Similar troubles occurred when she went outside to try tennis, soccer, baseball and badminton. Honestly, there were a lot of sports with a ton of running around involved and that cut them completely out of her lineup for possible activities. Inside once more, the girl took a peek at some of the classes they had that she couldn't just walk in to join. Karate and Dance looked very interesting but once more had the problem of being too physical.

Ismerauda had almost given up hope when she at last spotted a room with something that looked like she could do it. It was a large, cooler room with an Olympic sized swimming pool and a bunch of children practicing simple swim motions in one group, and some slightly older kids learning to do some of those moves together in a larger group. Issy'd been to the pool a time or two, her father having taken the family on a few occasions. While the equine Hiccup had avoided the water on those occasions – things being way too crowded for her – this actually did look much more interesting. There were fewer kids this time, and they weren't all running around and doing their own thing. It was quiet, monitored and much simpler than all of the other classes combined. And unlike most of them, she didn't have to do a ton of running or moving to master the basics – simple floating and strokes, nothing too major. Plus water made you lighter feeling, didn't it?

The girl smiled, nodding and deciding she'd have to try it. But with most everything seemingly attempted at this place – at least of what they had out today – she really had no much else to do. And seeing as she'd seen her siblings in different rooms and having a ball – Alice had been doing very well at baseball, and Adele seemed to adore soccer – so she wasn't getting to go home any time soon.

Slowly, the Hiccup wandered to a room that she was positive she'd entered before. However, upon entering it, she was surprised to find two things out – one, she hadn't actually entered it and two, her Dad was surprisingly good at playing a strange game that involved turning handles on either side of a long table with a bunch of funny bars on it. Approaching cautiously, Issy looked over her father's shoulder to get a better view of the game. There were a bunch of little men on the bars, three or four and in a row, and a small ball being knocked around the table by turning those bars and causing the little men to 'kick' it. It was essentially another game like soccer or whatever where you had to kick the ball to protect your goal. However, in this game, all of the work was in the upper body and turning and pushing the handles to make the bars and little men move, instead of moving yourself that way.

Hatty smiled down at his daughter as she approached. He was in the middle of playing against Bellaluna and winning pretty well, seeing as the alien had very little hand-eye coordination. “Hey hon, did you find anything you liked?” he asked gently. When Issy nodded, he smiled a bit more brightly, “That's good. Do you want to know what game this is?” Another nod. “This is Foosball. Do you want me to show you how to play?”

When the horse girl nodded this time, her father moved back a bit to let her move forward in front of him so she could reach the handles. Standing up on her tip-hooves, Ismerauda was able to see the field at least and try to turn the handles. She couldn't reach all of them so Hatty had to help her, but it was neat when she managed to turn one of the nearby handles fast enough to block a goal from Bella and send one back at the easily distracted Belune.

Cheering a bit, the Hiccup turned and gave her Daddy a big hug. “That was fun!” she squeaked happily. “Yep. You did good, sweetie.” Hatty agreed. “Have you tried any of these other games yet?” And with that, he started to lead the girl around to show her some of the other, less physical games in this room. They were things like ping pong, Foosball, air hockey, and even a few arcade games. While she wasn't tall enough or knowledgeable enough about the rules to play most of them, she did find one rather interesting skill in this – the small girl was exceptionally good at Pacman.

At the end of the day, Issy left smiling, holding hands with her Papa. Every one of them had found something they liked at this center, Ismerauda included, and all were quite determined to come back and do these things more often. And while Issy's choices had been less active than those of her siblings, she had definitely found things she could enjoy and do that weren't anything like what she'd have done in her old life – not that she really remembered that life very well, if at all.
“Most of all remember this:
If I can learn to do it, you can learn to do it.
Something in you knows it --
There's nothing to it!
Follow in my footsteps, shoe by shoe!
You can learn to do it too!

- Learn to Do It, Anastasia Soundtrack
