I'm so weird, when I'm backstage during a show I look in the mirror and spin around (even when i'm playing a guy) sweatdrop

My favorite was when I was in the annual Season Preview (I don't know if other schools do this, but we do like a one-act, then preview all our shows for the season) and I had been asked to be the preview's "Old Helen" in a depressing-as-hell play called Song of Survival.

The one act we were doing was Competition Piece, the most hilarious one-act ever. There's a part where the plays-within-plays go in fast-forward, and the dirctor decided, why not play music over them? So we played Toxic by Britney Spears, some random Japanese folk song and something by Rammstein. So I, in my little old lady not-quite a shirt, not-quite-a-dress garment, hair-sprayed-completely-white, flat-black-shoes way, proceded to dirty dance, even through the japanese folk shriekey-flute music. And head bang. It was beautiful.

Hm....supposedly at set-buildings for our school plays, people stage-kiss in the art room...and so you'll walk in and see a bunch of people "making out"...

I don't know why but this thread made me think of that.

Yeah, amusing stuff sometimes happens when I'm backstage, but nothing memorable...

Amby's tales of backstage shennnigans... part TWO
*Bum bum BUM!*

We were all CRAZY during Annie Warbucks! There is this one part in the show when Mrs. Pugh comes on and tells Warbucks and Grace that the prime minister of China is on the phone. Warbucks tells her that he'll call back later and Grace tells Mrs. Pugh, in Chinese, what to say to the prime minister. Grace actually had a line to remember, but Mrs. Pugh's line was random jibberish that sounds chinese. Every night before she went on, my voice teacher and I would egg on the Mrs. Pugh to say some kind of Chinese food as she walked off, but she wouldn't do it. Finally on the last night of the show, she starts walking off stage and says, "Cing chan chung... Moo Goo Gi Pan... HI-YAH!" Deb and I almost pissed ourselves backstage! It was so funny!

Another time when we did "Anything Goes," the girl that played Erma had a really good audition, but after we started the show we found out that she was in reality TOTALLY tone deaf! It was horrible everynight! Well, a bunch of us I had to make an entrance RIGHT after "Buddy Beware" (Erma's song) and we would all stand together right behind the one door, and on night the biggest inside joke we've ever had was born. My friend Cara was always lipsinking to the girl singing, then little by little she'd be singing along quietly, until one night a voice like Edith Bunker come out of no where! And we realised that the girl playing Erma really DID sound like Edith Bunker! By the time we had to get on stage, we were laughing so hard we couldn't sing the next song.

I was stage managing a play and the director wanted me to come out and put a bench out. Well, I forgot my headset. When I returned backstage, they let me know and I said "that must've made an impression." One of the people doing lights told me they would've told me, but they didn't want me to curse onstage. They had a point.

Also, an actor got really angry backstage and was yelling. I had to tell him to keep quiet and he still yelled. I talked to the director after the show and he told me he thought it was people outside on the street. He really should've fired the guy, but this theatre was voluntary and you couldn't do it.

For "Robin Hood" dress rehearsal, King John and I kept making faces at each other from offstage. I'm really good at not breaking, but I sent her (we had a girl King John, go figure) into near hysterics onstage.

During tech rehersal, my friends started singing Barenaked Ladies songs. It was just so random, and everyone started laughing. Yesterday at dress rehersal my friend and I ran around singing Wicked songs, just because we were bored. Then today at the actual production, as soon as intermission had begun one of the girls in the earlier casts (12 One Acts, she was in the first) came back stage and started screaming "My orange juice tastes angry!!!!" It was great.
I have a tendency to hide under the counters and spin in circles before the show...yeah, I'm weird. But not as weird as one of the girls in the cast. Before every show, she turns on the sink in the Girl's dressing room and sticks her head under it and gets a drink. It's like, her little ritual. xd
