I'm the most uncoordinated person alive and I was bringing my SG (in my hand without a case) downstairs when my brother called me. I dropped it and so now there is a weird chip in the wood that goes up from the bottom strap peg. It seems fine when I play it, but does the wood actually matter when it comes to sound?

if not then I'm keeping it because a)No more money b)I drew on the neck c)who really would buy an SG with the wood chipped?

Um... so what's wrong with it? I think the wood does effect sound a little bit (the reason behind hollow electrics), but i dont think it will be too big. And if you ever get famous, credit it to dropping your guitar, then see how many people you can get to do the same.

If it sounds the way it always did always did, then it's probably fine.

How bad is the chip? Unless it really disfigures the whole guitar, probably people won't object so much to it.

War wounds look great on guitars. Collectors and players alike were shelling out thousands to get Gibson's limited edition Jimmy Page guitar a couple years ago. Gibson actually "aged" the guitars by beating them up and creating some minor surface wear to match Jimmy's guitar. Then they charged something like $25,000 for them.

There's not likely to be any change in sound so long as nothing structural changed.
