Also know as Oedipus the King in English. In our English 4 AP class we have been reading a lot of Greek tragedies and I really enjoyed this one, as well as Medea. Oedipus is the first of a trilogy written by written by Sophocles and first performed circa 429 BC.

At the beginning, Oedipus's real parents go to a prophet of Zeus who tells them that the son will kill the father and marry his mother (there are various translations of this exactly, sorry if mines a bit off). In fear of this the parents send the baby away with a Shepard, but instead of killing the babie, it is given to a king and queen of a neighboring nation and grew up there.

smile I won't ruin all the details, you can wiki this if you want more of the story. But it's really good. Nothing like good bloody Greek tragedies, they put shame to stories now a days lol. When the main character stabs out his own eyes and bleeds in great detail is good in my opinion.
