I'm just...Oh my God, I'm so pissed at myself. I feel disgusting and weak.

I've been trying to lower my weight, because I'm pre-diabetic and I'm at risk for heart disease and morbid obesity and all that lovely stuff. Okay, cool, I said to myself. I can do this.

Well, WeightWatchers was just fine back when I was at home with Mommy cooking things for me, but now I'm back at college and I grocery shop for myself and we can't cook here and I'm such a ******** picky eater, I hate just about everything! I try to spread out my points, I try to conserve them, but late at night I start craving everything and I begin to munch away until I've used up not just all of my points for the day, but all my "extra" points for the week. Other times I'm out of food and instead of taking the bus to the grocery store I just go to the campus convenience store which really just has a bunch of overpriced junk food and what little healthy food they have is stuff I don't like.

I'm scared, I'm ******** scared, sometimes I have trouble breathing or my foot hurts and I always think it's weight-related and I don't want to die and I don't want to be a mess anymore and I want to be a healthy weight but...it's so hard! It never ends! I know I'm just whining but I needed to get this off my chest, I checked the rules and I don't think I'm breaking any, I know I'm a good person but it is difficult to lose weight and I keep hearing from people, "Oh, you're just trying hard enough," and I AM GODDAMMIT I AM and I just really hate myself right now!

I'm sorry, I'm sorry...I know I should talk to a friend or family member or something. But my family's asleep and it would take 100x as long to say this to my friend over IM. Thanks to anyone who reads this.

I know exactly how you feel. I've been there (and still end up there, occasionally). Losing weight is a never-ending struggle for some of us.

Regarding food... you said you can't cook, but do you have access to a fridge? Microwave? Most colleges let you have those things, at least.

I've never done weight watchers, so I'm not sure how my suggestions will fit in with points and all....

1. instant oatmeal-just add water (and heat), and you have a filling breakfast. I like to doctor mine up with cinnamon and nutmeg for some added flavor. It's best to get the plain stuff, but if you find it too bland, the pre-packaged flavored stuff is still better for you than most cereals

2. tuna fish-you mentioned you're a picky eater, so this may disgust you. But, it's low in calories, high in protein, and if you toss a bit of mayo in and put it on some whole grain bread, it might be tolerable

3. string cheese-these little guys have saved my diet plans on many occasions-easy to tote around, and they fill you up fairly well

4. salads-the possibilities are endless. spinach, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, olives... just watch the non-veggie toppings and dressings (fyi, Kraft has some really good tasting low-cal, low-fat dressings)

5. sunflower seeds, unshelled-for those times when you need something salty to snack on. Getting those little buggers out of their shells is time consuming, so you eat less. Plus, they're full of protein and good fats.

6. almonds/walnuts-high calorie, but full of good fats, and very filling.

7. Don't keep foods around that you tend to snack on.

8. If you feel an urge for something (I often get M&M urges), buy a single serving, even if it's not the best value. Enjoy it.

9. Go to bed earlier. As stupid and lame as this sounds, try shifting your day around a few hours-I've found that most of my bad eating is done after 10 pm, so I try to go to bed before that, and wake up earlier to get work done. It works fairly well for the eating, but has killed my social life.

10. Avoid campus convenience stores-I know, sometimes it's just so easy to go down the street and pick up a bag of chips then to take an hour out of your day to go to the grocery store. But think of it this way-isn't your health and well being worth an extra 45 minutes once a week?

11. EXERCISE-walk, jog, go to the gym, play a sport, anything! You'll feel better mentally and physically, and if you keep the diet steady, it'll help you lose weight (or, at least size). Also, it'll help your heart and get your body working more efficiently, which will help combat some of the risks you mentioned, even at a higher weight-a large person who exercises is healthier than a large person who doesn't!

And you're right, it never will end. You can't think of it as a temporary fix, because this has to be a permanent change, something you can live with for the rest of your life (ie, reasonable food intake, not obsessively exercising). Yeah, you'll slip up, everyone does-you just have to get back to the plan. Unfortunately, there's no magic "fat-be-gone" solution (besides liposuction)-it's a slow process, and takes a heck of a lot of work. But, isn't it worth it to be healthy?

If you ever need to talk/vent about this, feel free to PM me smile

I've been diabetic for about eight and a half years. It's incredibly hard for diabetics to lose weight and keep it off. I can definitely relate to where you're coming from. I've been trying for years to lose weight. I was pretty chubby before I was diagnosed so it's been a constant battle for pretty much my whole life. My biggest suggestion, or at least what has helped me the most:
Walking.
It keeps me moving which helps my metabolism. Even if it's just wandering my dorm aimlessly, it's movement. It doesn't wear me out quickly. I have a really hard time with high intensity work outs. But walking suits me just fine. Grab an iPod or a friend and go for a walk.
Sorry if that's not much help, but it's what I've got to offer.

I agree with the string cheese and sunflower seeds idea. Any food that you have to work at to eat will fill you up sooner with less actual food. Other than that, I don't have much advise. I, too, am trying to loose weight, but my time and money are vastly running out as fast as I can get them.

I read somewhere that you can eat more fruits and vegetables because they are water based foods... and they're better for your body.. it might just have been a ploy to sell vegetables.. but if you're snacking on vegetables then not only are you getting vitamins and stuff but you won't feel so bad after wards!

I also would recommend an accountability partner. Maybe if you found someone else on campus or one of your friends who wanted to lose weight, then you could try and keep each other accountable. It's a lot harder to snack when the judging eyes of your roommate are following you to the shelf and back to your desk with your bag of cheese popcorn. Then you will have someone to talk to about how your weight loss is going, etc.

Also: GUM! I chew gum all the time. A lot of the time it's to keep me from eating snack food. It's delicious, fruity tasting and it keeps your mouth busy. I like Stride in sweet berry, personally.

Good luck!!

Oh my God. gonk

I'm kind of on-and-on active on Gaia, and so when I came back here, I suddenly remembered this thread. D:

I am SO sorry I used this guild as my own personal hugbox. Thank you everyone for your advice. I had an apple just now. It was good. I've been eating more of them lately, so that's good, I suppose.

Also foods often don't have enough nutrients in them, so buying a large bottle of multi vitamines. Thats the key reason why we feel so drug down, and sometimes even moody. it's the bodies way of saying "hey you need better fuel."
