Just how could this have happened? How could she be so careless? Bubbling anxiously through her muzzle, Amaia continued in her messy task. Front paws continued to dig at the ocean's floor, kicking up a volumous cloud of brown all around her. As if her eyessight wasn't weak enough, the saturated water wasn't helping any. But she knew....it had to be right here! Somewhere....
Back fin swayed to anchor her in place as she glanced here and there. Not even a shimmer of her oversized pearl. Or even a wince of pink in the mass of blue water. Did she kick it away and not even notice? Bubbling some more, Amaia twitched into action and swam up and away from the dust cloud. Emerging with a stream of following mud, the kitsu scanned about for her round lost item.

Near the surface, Ghoti looked down, the motion of the roiling mud-cloud and the quick dart of something emerging from it catching his eye. Yes. It was another kitsu, he saw, as the clouded water around her settled. Odd markings, rather like a skeleton. She seemed to be looking for something. Lazily, he twisted over and dove downwards, heading for the female hovering above the mud-cloud. "Lose something?" he asked, as he came within hearing range.

Thin membranes like ears gave a twitch when a voice was heard through the dense water. Red eyes gave a blink as she turned to see the other, bemused by the bright colors. It looked vaguely familiar, but from smaller fish of the ocean.
Curving her long tail in to touch her tummy, Amaia gave a nod. "Why yes I did. It was a round pearl, about the size of a seashell." She rubbed her paws together smoothly, as if remembering the joy of holding said object. "Will you help me find it? I saw it shimmer and drop in this area...somewhere." And she gestured to the ground below her.

"Gladly." Ghoti flicked his tail and raised his ears cheerfully, pleased to have something useful to do. "What color is it?"
He let himself sink slowly towards the bottom, careful not to stir up the mud cloud again,n ow that it was beginning to settle.

"It's a soft pink." She floated after the other slowly, finding that sinking was too slow. A soft batting of her tail had her reach the ground first, with minimal disturbance of the mud. "I sure hope nothing ate it while I was searching." 8X Her red orbs focused on the ground while her nose brushed against hte sands like a fine comb.

"Pink, then." Ghoti sifted through the fine silt of the seafloor with his paws and nose, moving slowly and carefully. He kept his eyes narrowed to slits,not wanting to get the mud in his eyes. "I wouldn't think anything would, unless it had been eaten right away when you dropped it," he mused. "If it wasn't moving, it wouldn't look like prey, right?"

"Yep yep." She watched as the other scouted the ground carefully, before going back to her own searchings. "But who knows? It took a while before I noticed it was out of my grasp." And even without the mud, the water was darker down here and effectively muted the pearl's shine. Amaia perced her lips as she thought it over. "Well....it was still shiny. Maybe they didn't want food but just something pretty." Dx;

"Hard to say. Maybe we'll still find it, right?" Ghoti continued to sift through the mud, feeling about with his pawpads. Something hard and round in the mud - he raked it up out of the silt. "I found something - " maybe a pebble, maybe Amaia's treasure. They would have to wait till the mud settled a little more to see.

"Right!" The aquatic nodded with energy and enthusiasm, still hoping to find and reclaim her dear treasure. Floating limply with the current, Amaia drifted back into location beside Ghoti. Then her wide tail blossomed out to keep her in the spot securely. "Eh, you did?" The femme turned red eyes to the sand cloud, head tilting curiously. A soft shimmer could be seen through the muck, and she stretched out a paw to inspect.
"Yip!" Fins flared as she swam back an inch, narrowing her eyes with a pout. Standing right beside her round pearl was a crab. With sharp claws, as she had just realized....
