practice with your fingers, check out some youtube vids on how to play bass, learn a few fret movements that require the use of all your fingers on different frets so you can get that down quickly, learn theory.

if you can read tabs, try this:

its just a basic warm up to get up fingers working. Flea does it before every show.
and a good first song is Seven Nations Army by the White Stripes. It is horribly easy.
and if you want to get your right hand stamina up, then This Is The Place by Red Hot Chili Peppers is good. It might be a bit difficult if you've never played a guitar of any sort before.

Try some songs by AC/DC. Alot of there bass lines are doubling the guitar so its easy to train your ear using them. just match the tones. and as everyone else has said look up tabs. there are Many websites for them. i like to use Ultimate-Guitar.com..but thats me

Bass Masta has been good to me so far. I'd suggest it for tabs.

A good way to start is to try the most styles of playing you possibly can. Groovy, funky, punk rock picking style, very fast metal, etc... Just try as much as you can.
My best tip is this: You can do it all, it just takes practice, lots and lots of practice mrgreen
a couple of good songs to try out early on :
War - Low rider
Sum 41 - Motivation
The hives - Walk idiot walk
The Hives - Hate to say I told you so
All stuff from Rage Against The Machine is good to take on when you get used to your bass and build up a bit of stamina.
