Lately, I've taken to sewing my own clothes. While I have yet to create anything Steampunk (due to my limited funds), I've shown my sketches to my mother- she loves them. Of course, she's always been a 'closet goth,' as she would say (she uses goth as a general term for 'darker alternative fashion'), and would probably love the 'alternative' aspect of Steampunk... Particularly the corsetry. She, like myself, enjoys very old-fashioned things, so I know she'd be interested. In fact, I do believe she's seen, and greatly admired, a few Steampunk outfits. And, just to note, I am gay, have told her, have been accepted, and never took any slack for it from her. She's cool. ^-^

I sympathise with the writer. I often had to hide my trilby and my waistcoats for fear of having them snatched away from me in the night. Still, it's not too long until I can move and enjoy my little... eccentricities.

My mom thinks it sounds cool, and seems to like the fashion. The music and the decor....that may take a bit of getting used to, for her.

I have subconciuosly loved Steampunk since I saw 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and took apart my first clock. I recently tried to expain Steampunk to my Mum.... and after half an hour of explaining she still doesn't get it. I haven't started dressing Steampunk yet but I'm on the verge of it. First things first "Mum Dad! I need Spraypaint, Brass, Leather clothes. WW I pilots goggles, a pocketwatch, and a lot of broken clocks. Sidnay I am now slightly less angry at the Germans because of this. Whats that supposed to mean!? Why are you angry at Germans? If this ha anything to do with WW II Then don't talk about it! WW II is all Austria's fault since thats where Adolf came from! Yes I'm German, deal with it.

Both me and my mum love the steampunk/victorian fashions and lifestyle However I have the distinct feeling she doesn't realise just HOW MUCH I love it. My father would, if you will pardon the coarse language, kick the hell off if he ever discovered me dressing in the prefered fashions of the era without good reason
Edit: However I thank them both for buying me the waistcoat and trilby hat

My mom is a rare flower, she looks past appearances and judges solely on personality and actions. She considers me a free spirit, so anything I do most people consider outlandish she doesn't even bat an eyelash and just smiles. She could care less about how I dress, but she does get awful mad if I "ruin" her clothes, and by ruin I mean modify them to my own tastes. Then again, she has a point, I shouldn't ransack her drawers every time I get an idea for an outfit.

I have lived with my mom almost my whole life. I got in to a lot of arts stuff. My favort is metal art. My mom loves the victorian and western life style. So when I found out about Steampunk I just feel right in and my mom thinks its fun. On the other hand my dad just dont get it. On my dads side of the family I am what you would call the black sheep. rofl But I do think my dad and his family are finlly getting use to it.

My dad never really says anything, and my mom accepts it as commonplace. The day I explained what I was dressed up for (I made my steam debut on Air Kraken Day last year) she helped me out by tucking a bit of peacock feather in my hatband as casually as if she were handing me my sweater.

That was very cool! I forwarded it to my mom, but she didn't get it emo My mom doesn't get Steampunk much, either. It's one of those teenage phases to her I guess.

I like that essay, it's well written and neat.
My dad likes steampunk, fortunately, and my mom doesn't mind it and likes historical costumes. Now if only we had more money for a corset, I'd be set.

Eh, other than a lone pair of aviator goggles, I still have yet to get into the whole Steampunk fashion. (And find where I can get the clothes) Of course, my mom just kind of scratches her head at me. But my dad and my brothers are always walking up saying "Oh I found this website" or "This looked sort of Steampunk"
