New Love slot <33 -and- How had this happened?
Jericho still wasn't exactly sure what turn of events had led him down this path. One minute, he'd had everything. The next, nothing. And then, boom. There she was. They'd stumbled across each other by chance, bristling and snarling like the monsters everyone seemed to think they were. And then they'd proven each other wrong. Hysa was different, true enough. But so was he. Her kind was prone to violence, capable of terrible acts. His father had been the same, left his 'glorious' reputation for his son to inherit.
Somehow, they'd come together. Somehow, they'd stayed that way. And now somehow, something else had grown between them. He was going to be a father again. At last. It was something that could only be described as bittersweet in the lunar's mind. A new family in the making. A chance to rise from the ashes. That might well burn to the ground before his eyes all over again.
But he wasn't Hysa's hero like he'd been Keely's. Sometimes, he wasn't exactly sure what he was to Hysa. Someone as strong and unique as she was - that wasn't to say Keely hadn't been the same way. She'd been one of the most amazing lionesses Jericho had ever known. But in so many ways, Hysa was different. It was what held them apart and drew him in all in one. He hadn't even known a union like theirs' could bring cubs into the world.
Maybe they really weren't as different as she'd thought.
It was dusk when the lunar had taken to hunting - she'd said she hadn't been up to it. He hadn't fought her on it. It'd be good for her to get some rest in. The night was about halfway through, full moon hanging high and bright in the sky when he began making his way back, dragging his prey awkwardly along with him. Antelope. Here's hoping it was to her taste.
~
But right now, her taste would be the least of worries.
Instict was taking over, and it told her that what was inside her was not normal. Millions and millions of years of evolution was still ingrained within her, and the difference between what she was now and what she should be was astounding. Eggs shouldn't move the way they were. Eggs would not cause her such pain. Eggs...there weren't any eggs.
Her thoughts went back to Jericho. He wasn't anything she should care about. But there was something. And she didn't know what. Instinct told her that he would leave as the eggs were laid. But something else told her he would stay. But instinct overtook anything else.
Instinct said to run. Fight. Get rid of the eggs. A throaty snarl bubbled up in her throat before she let out a high-pitched screech and started to run off...before stopping and turning around again. She repeated the process, now thoroughly confused, at least five times. Hissing and spitting, tail lashing and fangs bared the most they could be. It was all mixed up in her head. Feelings mixing with instinct, fighting, neither side relenting. Both sides eager to stamp out the other. No draw in sight.
Movement not too far off barely caught her attention, and she whirled around, screeching with her claws dug into the earth, that deadly sickle tapping violently.
He'd heard the screeching by then. Had to be deaf to miss it, really. They weren't roars, but he'd adjusted. Wasn't too far off from a roar, right? But it'd gotten him moving faster. Because if screeching was in the same line as roaring like he thought, then that meant there had to be something to roar about. He'd left the prey some short ways off, just hoping nothing would swoop in and swipe it while he checked in on her.
What he wasn't expecting was for her to whirl on him, those strange claws digging dangerously into the ground beneath her. He jumped back a step or two even though there were plenty already between them, tensing reflexively, his eyes wide. "Whoa, whoa, hey, Hys! Calm down!" His tone was trapped somewhere between reassuring and panicked. What a wonderful combination it was. "It's just me!" They'd been here, played this game already. Obviously, he wasn't about to hurt her.
But something was wrong. Very wrong. He sensed it long before he realized what it stemmed from.
Would have been an understatement though, that something was wrong. Instead of calming down, her fury only mounted upon itself twicefold. Another screech erupted from her and she lunged forward, stopping herself just short and letting out another snarl. She was frightened of the change that had come so quickly. Fright turns to anger. Anger to doubt.
"Filth!" she hissed through bared teeth. "Should be prey! Should..." She couldn't even finish, breaking down into a screech, eyes crazed with fear.
Jericho jerked back another hasty couple of steps, his entire body tensed and ready to do what he had to to protect himself. Even if his body was ready for it though, his mind wasn't anywhere near that point. Especially when she looked so... scared?
"Hys... " She didn't think he was filth. The word didn't have the sting it should have, because he knew better. This wasn't her. At least not the Hysa he'd come to know. He forced himself to take a step forward instead. "What happened? You've got to talk to me."
"Talk does nothing." she threatened, but even as she did so, her body began to shake and shiver, the smallest of tears forming in her eyes. Her claws relaxed and her tail, usually carried high and proud, drooped.
"It's all wrong...All wrong...They move..." she whimpered, her hind leg reaching up towards her belly, gently scraping at her fur. "I don't want them...I...They need to go...They're not normal..."
There had been an instant where he'd been sure she'd stick to her guns on that one. But luckily for them both, she began to crack, slowly giving in. The lunar took a deep breath, easily striding closer now. "It's okay, Hys. It'll be okay, " he said as soothingly as he could. That's right. With her kind - she'd said they carried eggs like birds, right? It had been strange to hear. But it made her fear more understandable. Somewhere, he was thrilled. That meant the cubs were big enough to be able to move.
But this was bad. With Hysa the way she was, it wasn't just the cubs that might be in danger. She'd be hurting herself too. "The cu -- the little ones are fine, Hys. I know it seems weird to you, I know... but things are different now. Everything's changed, right? For us, this is how they're born." He even dared to rest his chin lightly on her shoulder. "They're healthy. They're ours'."
Letting the tears drip, she nuzzled into his mane gently, chuffing. "What if they...don't make it...? I don't..." once again instinct told her to get away. Far away so she couldn't get hurt. "...I don't want to fail... I don't want you to leave..."
Jericho's eyes slid shut at her words, memories that still haunted him playing fresh in his mind. "They'll make it... , " he whispered, easing back just long enough to lick her tear-soaked cheek. "I know it's different, Hys. But trust me, okay? Moving is a good thing for us. It just means they're eager to come out and see your pretty face, that's all."
He nuzzled the top of her head, ruffling her bangs lightly. "You won't fail. And I won't either. Okay? I'm not going anywhere, no matter what. Promise." He'd had his chance for a happy family and a happily ever after package deal. And he'd blown it. Royally. Somehow, by some freak twist of fate, he'd gotten another shot. He couldn't - wouldn't screw up again.
A chuckle broke through her sobs and a smile made it's way onto her face. "Well... heh... I guess i can get used to this..." she nipped at his flakes gently, a very odd purring bubbling up from her throat. "I don't know what the right words are... but i believe they are 'I love you.'" she leaned back as well, wiping away the last tear. She looked up at the sky... at the moon. The thing that had torn her apart had brought them together somehow.
Jericho laughed softly. That strange purr of her's had grown on him fast. She was different - very, very different. But, hey. Just meant she was special. "Nailed it in one. You're getting good at this, " he rumbled, resting his tail atop her's. "And just for future reference, Hys: the proper response to that would be 'I love you too, gorgeous'. Or if you were saying that to me, a 'sexy beast' would suffice, " he teased, nudging her cheek again. He followed her gaze to the sky, smiling faintly.
He'd always had a connection to the moon... and really, his life had been modeled after it. Darkness ebbing away to light. Light fading to the darkness. A constant cycle that pulled him like the tides. Now, he'd fight to keep it full. He didn't know if he could face another new moon after tasting this again. And he didn't plan to. DONE <333

New love slot and *Helios n' Fae's story*Most of the couples of the pride had gone off together, this day seemed to make it free reign for couples to openly shower one another with affection without the worry.
He'd gotten hassled by his older brothers about not having a girlfriend, which only caused the young lunar to walk away from the safety of the pride, he followed down the shore of the river with a faint sigh.
Sitting down, he watched as silver glints of a small school of fish darted to and fro, his stared out becoming lost in his thoughts. He did have a love, he thought to himself finally being honest with himself, he loved Fae...his aunts adopted daughter.
He swiped a paw across the water, he found himself following her when she went fishing. Finding himself swelling with pride everytime she caught of fish and that smile crossed her face. Found himself looking for ways to be with her, near her...
He rubbed a paw down his face. What was he to do? How could he tell her, that she is what made his heart beat, the reason he woke each morning..
Fae had gone off right along with the others - but for very different reasons. The silent lioness had no love to call her own. That wasn't to say she didn't know what it was. She'd seen it blaring bright in the hearts of her mother and Cayimmi. But that was just it. She'd seen it. But never known it. (At least love like that. Family was a whole other kettle of fish.) More like she'd never even thought to seek it out.
She'd sent the other couples off with a warm smile and the best wishes in her heart. But in the end, she'd left alone, making way towards the river for more of the same. Unless one counted the fish. But those were hardly what any lioness would call the love of their life.
The tiny lioness had just snapped up a fish in her jaws when she caught sight of a flash of fur at the river's edge. For a split-second, her heart raced. But the panic only lasted mere moments. She knew that fur, she knew the lion behind it. And she knew she didn't have anything to fear from him. If anything, a smile lit her face around the slimy scales of the fish. She didn't understand why her heart was still pounding. All she knew was she was happy to see him - he hadn't come to find her, had he? Her smile dimmed just a bit when she got a better look at him. He was staring intently down at the water. Looked like he was deep in thought... being too serious again. She found herself wishing she had a gift like Hin's. What she wouldn't give to be able to peer into his mind sometimes. (Part of her wondered if he might have wished for the same.)
She might have called to him if she'd had it in her. But she couldn't. Not only for her voice, but - her fish! She'd gotten it so easily this time! And it was a good size, too. So instead, she dashed towards him, making it a point to splash more than she really needed to as she swept through the water. The slivers of silver darted in every direction, parting before Fae's paws. She stopped short in front of Helios, her eyes bright and the fish's tail still flopping half-heartedly in the air.
At the sound of splashing water, he lifted his head and saw Fae, just who he had been thinking about, a smile couldnt help but tug at the corners of his muzzle a bit. He chuckled as she stopped in front of him, he shook his head slightly as he rose to his paws. "Your getting amazing at that you know.." He said before he instantly regretted it, she hadnt know he followed her to the river.
He put a paw onto his forehead and shook his head, he was an idoit sometimes, really.
"You didnt go off with everyone else?" he asked curiously as he walked into the river to greet her. The river rushed around his paws, the fish darted between the pair, becoming used to them standing there. The sun was lowering in the sky, it was late in the afternoon, evening and sunset would be upon them shortly.
When night fell, he'd have to return to the pride to endure more of his brothers torment. His heart hung heavy as it pinned to tell Fae what he felt fot her, his thoughts on her.
Though no one had ever heard her speak, he knew deep down she had the voice of an angel, touched by the gods.
Fae found herself blushing. Her eyes widened just slightly, then she quickly ducked her head to try and mask it beneath her bangs. The heat in her face wasn't something she was used to. It was so odd in itself that it just left her even more pink beneath the fur. She'd never really done it with - had he been watching? Oh no. He meant he would've seen all the blunders and missteps and soaked fur that went along with her mistakes. All those parts she'd been hoping to keep to herself.
But she was oddly elated by it in the same breath. He'd been watching her. Her smile just grew brighter. Why did that simple prospect make her so happy?
She shook her head in response to his question, amusement twinkling in her dark eyes as she peered back up at him again. Of course not. Why would she? This wasn't a day meant for her kind of love. She knew why he wasn't with them. She'd heard it before, the comments Helios' brothers made. He didn't have anyone like that either. She didn't understand why. A lion like him shouldn't have any problem finding someone, should they? Maybe he got a bit too serious sometimes, but... it wasn't that hard to put a smile on his face. She did it all the time, and without words to help it along. The best kinds of smiles were the ones you had to earn. And he had such a beautiful smile.
She leaned out further, nudging Helios' muzzle with her own, the fish brushing lightly against his fur. Offering her prize out for him to take.
He could see the faint touches of a blush stain her beautiful face, she as she hid it from him, his brows knit together as a frown formed. "Hey now, dont hide your face from me.." He said lifting her chin with a paw, so that he could look at her.
By the gods she stole his breath away.
As she offered him her catch, he shook his head. "No, I couldnt take your catch Fae." He nudge her muzzle in return, "You catch it, enjoy it.." He smiled at her as he turned, waiting for her to join him at his side, he was heading towards the shore line, standing in the river wasn't acceptable any further.
Gazing at her, he sighed and decided it was time he confessed his feelings to her.
Fae met his eyes shyly, her ears flicking slowly back and forth. He had nice eyes, too; such a striking color against the dark mask of his face, always so intense. It was hard to meet them, partly because when she did she knew it'd be hard to look away again.
The lioness nodded slowly, smiling at him from around the fish. Okay, then. She'd just share it with him. Not that he'd know it yet, but she'd find her way.
Fae trotted after him towards the shore, glancing down just long enough to catch a hint of their reflections, distorted by the ripples their paws left in their wake. One all pale, one all brilliant color. 'Helios' was a name that suited him well, if one asked her. (And got an answer.) Vivid as the sun.
She eased herself down on the shore, placing the fish delicately on the ground, almost as if it would break. She licked her lips once or twice before peering up at Helios. He was staying, right? She found herself hoping he was.
Following her out, he watched as she put the fish down, the scales catching the light of the slowly fading sun. His violet hued eyes never left her, he nudged her shoulder softly with his muzzle as he came up beside her.
Her features were so delicate and soft, and yet she herself was so strong. She was always so happy, and she always could make him smile, ease the frustration that he felt, make life worth living really.
"Fae?" he said softly, "I need to tell you something.." He wasnt sure how he was going to say it exactly, or even what her response would be to it. But he had to tell her, he couldnt hold it back any further..He knew even if she didnt return his feelings she wouldnt hurt him. Not like another would, that just wasnt Fae, she didnt hurt others.
A tiny, faint purr sprung forth at the nudge. Fae's gaze was questioning, then, her head tilting just barely to a side, bangs falling into her eyes. A knot of dread worked its way into her stomach before she could will it away. He sounded so unsure, so soft, it threw her off. Not that he wasn't always soft with her. He'd never treated her the way he treated everyone else. But that tone said it was something important. Serious. But what was it?
He sat down, he wasn't sure if he could open himself up like this and stand at the same time. He took a deep breath and slowly let it out, ready or not, he thought as he looked from his paws to her.
Helios was rather serious and distant, from seeing his parents split up and then to find his mother had children with another whilst he never saw her stung him on a deep level. He felt no faith in love most the time, but the Fae looked at him, and his world changed.
"Fae, Im really not good at this sort of thing. Specially since I've never done this, let alone said this to another." He felt tongue tied.
She sat down next to him, her shoulder brushing up lightly against his own as a sign of unspoken support. Whatever it was, it was hard on him. She could see that without him ever saying a word. Everything about him seeped tension, more so than usual.
Trying her hardest to lend him some support, afraid it wouldn't be enough, she leaned in to nudge him gently beneath his chin in hopes it would urge him to speak. Whatever it was, even if did reflect the darkest thoughts her heart flung to the forefront, she would be there. He could open up to her without fear.
At her touch, his heart crawled into his throat. Only reminding him he wanted to wake to her face every morning.
As she nudged under his chin, he couldn't help but nuzzle her cheek softly. "Fae.." He said softly.
He wasn't usually soft or tender, but she brought out a side of him most thought lost to the world.
"Fae, Im in love with you. Completely lost to you, I find myself working my day around ways to run into you. Searching you out just to see you smile.." He gazed at her now. He stumbled a bit over the words as feelings were not his best suit.
The touch earned him another tiny purr, the tip of her tail curling to a side. She was always an affectionate lioness, at least to those she was comfortable with. Body language was all she had to work with, and those tiny nudges and nuzzles were a bit part of it. She couldn't say how much she cared, so she simply had to show it. But again, it was different with him. Niobe's touches were warm, soothing - but while Helios' were the same in some ways, they were so different in others. The warmth could be searing. But they didn't hurt. Never, he'd never hurt her.
Fae's eyes grew wide and round at his words, shocked. Had he just said what she'd thought he'd said? Of all the possibilities that had run rampant through her mind, that one hadn't so much as crossed her thoughts. Someone was in love with her? No, not someone. More than that. Helios felt that way about her? Her heart was pounding again, louder than before. She was sure he could hear it. She wouldn't have been surprised if he could feel it, too.
Helios loved her.
He'd wanted to see her - she'd wanted to see him, too.
He'd wanted to see her smile - she'd wanted that too, hadn't she?
Was that what this love was?
Why her? He could do better, couldn't he? A lioness he could speak to, open up to, someone to give him everything he needed - no. The sudden jolt of her own inner voice shocked her. She didn't want another lioness to do it. Because she wanted to be the one to do it. He didn't need it from anywhere else.
Her body was struck numb in an instant, and a thousand times more sensitive at once. She trembled lightly, emotions playing across her eyes like a show projected on screen. Confusion, affection, all of it. And she couldn't say a word of it, not a single thought playing in her mind.
He watched her reaction, it had taken him a long while to see all her emotions expressed in her eyes, but he had it down to a fine art now.
He nuzzled her cheek now, his eyes closed as he took in her scent. "I do Fae, I only want you..no one else. Ever." He nuzzled his face into her fur a bit, his tail curling around hers.
"I want to end this day of love with you, you've always held my heart.." He looked at her now. "With no other can I be like this. Only you.." He nuzzled her muzzle softly. "I love you."
Just her. There was no other lioness. There would never be another lioness. She hadn't even realized the treasure she'd held in her paws. It was just like her - she'd come into the pride a shivering mess of fur, afraid of the world. Even as she'd grown, even if she never questioned Niobe's love for her, she'd never sat back and realized just how much she'd come to mean to the pride. Especially Helios. And how much he'd come to mean to her.
His words echoed in her mind, so struck by them that they took her very breath away. There were tears at the corners of her dark eyes, for once anything but sad, so much emotion lying beneath them. All lying flat on the table for him to see, like an open book.
"... Hel ... ios... "
At her voice hit his ears, his jaw went slack and fell open a bit, he stared at her in completely shock, the tears in the corners of her eyes caused him to lift his paw, and wipe away the tears.
"Fae..I.." He didnt know what to say, he was completely taken back that she'd spoke, and his name at that! It only confirmed that she returned his feelings.
He licked her muzzle, this day of love, would be his favorite day for the rest of his life, nothing in the world could ever top the feelings that rushed through him right then.
It took Fae a moment to realize that soft voice, rough at the edges from disuse, had been her own. For a split-second, her old vivid fear coursed strong through her veins, blinding her. She glanced back and forth, expecting the worst. Only bad things came when she spoke. It meant pain, it meant -
It never came. Nothing but the warmth of Helios' touch and a gentle lick on the nuzzle. The fear began to fade, the tension seeping out of her body as quickly as it had come. Nothing happened. No, that's wrong. Something had happened. But it had been... good? She might have laughed if she could. Instead, she just gave in at last, burying her face into Helios' mane with another purr, her smile unseen, her heart still pounding - but not in a bad way. No, not bad at all.
So this was what love was like? She had a place in a day like today after all. With him.
