As I frequent the SF forum, it's always doom and gloom about the site. "Gaia is selling out", "Craig Sherman eats kittens for breakfast", "I hate you/this/that/everything". With the release of the pay to play Aquariums, the SF had a virtual nuclear meltdown.

When you visit the site do you wonder what goes on in the background? Do you pay attention to the new features? Do you care about them? (I won't be using Aquarium.) Does it upset you that the inventory arranger is still not fixed yet there are new features being released?

I find it a bit funny that when Gaia partners with other companies - Verizon, Take180, 20th Century Fox, it's seen as selling out and not as a partnership to bring us features that we may not of known about. For me, I LOVE Kelly and I found the Take180.com website quite funny and I will be going back.

What are your thoughts?

I've been on Gaia practically since the beginning and I was a mod for a brief time where I got to know the admins and such. I even knew of who they were before Gaia even existed, through their art. They are a bunch of cool people who thought it'd be fun to make a website for everyone to go to and hang out. They aren't money hungry, they just need to pay the bills. They go with sponsors they think the general users would like and of course it's not going to please everyone.

As far as not getting features fixed, from what I've noticed is that there are a bunch of different people working on different projects. So just because something new gets released, doesn't mean the other problems have been forgotten it just that maybe the people who worked on the newest project has nothing to do with the old problem of another project.

I just feel bad that people can be so closed minded and harsh. Just because they don't like something, it doesn't give them the right to bash Gaia for it. I get kind of defensive when people are just rude like that. Cuz they don't realize all the hard work the employees put into this site and to try and make everyone happy. And it's not just Gaia, people need to realize that wherever they are.

I think the aquarium being cash only is real sucky, so yeah I won't really be using it, but I'm not going to go around bitching about it.

I remember when it was just forums and a world map. Some of the new features I don't care for, but when your main audiences in teens then you need all the shinies.

It's okay now. I has my guild. [:

I saw that your account is an 03. :3 I would of loved to be here at the very beginning, but I've still have seen a lot in my four years here.

What I hate about the SF is that people complain about not liking it, but don't give alternatives or suggestions. I think also, that the users are young and don't have work experience and other life experiences to help them understand how and why things work. Ah, the temper tantrums that are the site feedback forum.

I'd love to know the staff better. You're lucky to have been able to do that. I do go to the ATA (Ask the Admin) where Lanzer comes and hangs out. It's a lot of fun, but I do hope that V0 and l0cke, Ling and the others would make an appearance.

Kinda off topic, but Lanzer is a bit of a stargazer and posted this great picture of Jupiter he took. whee I totally felt so special that he uploaded and posted it.

Edit: Onicoe - yeah, thank the Lord for guilds. :3
And, I was really disappointed that Aquariums are pay only. I won't use mine because of that.

For the longest i took up for Gaia from the Piranhas in the GCD saying 'Gaia is a sell out, Gaia is money hungry, Lanzer owes me child support!' and etc.

Because with the MTV shop and other sponsorships on Gaia and the slew of EI's in the cash shop...they have to get money some way to make a profit. I mean you cant go back to how it was in '04 because sites progress as they gain popularity, if Gaia was the same as it was in 2006 when i joined, i would have grown bored and quit, so I for one am glad they've done so many changes and keeps the site fresh ^^

As for Aquariums, that pisses me off that its cash only. It also pisses me off the little fish you BUY die in 4-6 weeks. Therefore, i will not be having an aquarium, i will be selling whatever fishy items i get from the DC and put that to avatar items x3

Oh I totally think that's what it is. These kids don't know anything about working and such. Wait till they get a job or take a business class in college.

Although when I went to the New York Comic Con, there was this guy in his 30's/40's who came just to the con just to b***h to Gaia about some big banning mishap that happened in March. He's like, "Oh I spent so much money blah blah blah so I deserve my case to be addressed now!" Can't even escape the bitching in real life. It's just a game, it's your own fault on how much money you spend.

Awesome Jupiter pic!

I went to Ep!c, which is this green sustainability show. It was awesome. Ed Begley Jr. was there as a guest speaker. At the end of his show, they had a Q&A. The first guy up had such an attitude that he was an expert on subject that Ed had to basically tell him to step down. I thought it was a one off, but nearly all the people that got up to speak were exactly the same. They're just nit pickers. It's almost like the feed off of the attention of the crowd. It's unfortunate that they don't realize there are more appropriate avenues for their grievances.

I would love for Gaia to be at one of the conventions in Vancouver. I'd so go. :3

Wow, I never realized they could be so expensive. I wanted to go to the Stargate convention but it was $300 for one day. And no, you didn't even get to pinch Richard Dean Anderson's butt for that. neutral

Oooh! Ed Begley Jr? I bet that was a interesting talk. I've watched his show for a while and he was quite entertaining. I'd love to go to a event/convention like that though. We did see Al Gore speak a couple years ago, that was cool.

Have I mentioned my love for Vancouver? Such an awesome city, I wish I could live there again.

It annoys me how some people on Gaia just want to complain about new features and 'selling out.' As a business, Gaiaonline.com is trying to expand and they're not going to see any progress by standing still. I've had many accounts on Gaia and my first account was when they just started. I've seen a large amount of changes. Some great, some okay, some not so great. Either way, it has made Gaia more enjoyable. Some features, like the aquarium, we have to pay for if we want to use them but Gaiaonline as a whole is free. If they don't like it, then they can leave.
