My best friend's in Pit. She was second vibraphone and she's had plenty of panic attacks from forgetting her part.
She's had people tell her it's easy, but in my perspective, there's a whole scale in front of you. You need to know which notes to hit or else the whole band's screwed. Because some people listen to the pit, it can make the whole band rush or drag. They're what makes a song magical.

Thankfully, my pit and drumline respect eachother. Like drumline knows that pit music is difficult. Pit knows that marching is difficult; all in all, our differences are balanced.

I am a sophmore in Pit...We have this debate at my school too and i agree with everyone who said one cannot live without the other. 1. Pit wouldn't know the beat and 2. both drumline and pit (at least at my school) listen to each other to know when to come in. sweatdrop
In a way, drumline is less tedious because they dont have to push their instruments up and down a steep a** hill just to get to the field and they dont have to stay a half hr after practice ends to put all their stuff away.
Im 99% sure that none of dumline could play with 4 mallets with the correct grip...and i mean straight 16th notes for the majority of the show.
Most of the pit and drumline at my school get along together pretty well because we know that we just couldnt live without each oher and make our performances as impactful.
heart heart PIT IS IT! heart heart
