spoilers for anyone who hasn't watched season three finale.

anyway.

i was watching the end, where martha was telling the story of the doctor to the slaves throughout the continents when it clicked to me.
out of entertainment, i compared martha to moses..leading the slaves away to salvation and into a better life. telling the people about God, and trying to save them, and telling them to give their full faith and beliefs in him.

as the episode ended, I saw a lot of qualities in how the doctor was transforming back into is former self (not all pathetic, awkward, old and sad like..and into tennant again) and glowing with all this amazing light and freakin' even floating into the air..and i was all "ohshit he's like god xD"
then i saw the master as satan.

the doctor commented about the master, saying that they knew each other a bit and were even friends (that's what i got out of it anyway)
but now they had turned into enemies of sorts.
opposites.
one despised humanity, wanted them to fall and to be used to his own benefit..and the other one nurtured and looked after it, saw them as family and was very forgiving.

i'm not religious.
i'm don't even regard myself as christian.

but do you ever see odd connections of this show to other more subtle meanings and things?
if so, do you think it was even intended?

Your theory makes perfect sense. I can see what you mean exactly. Very good observation!

I had that same though when I was watching. Even my brother who doesnt watch Doctor Who was like...... "The Doctor is Jesus!" Then I smacked him in the head.

But yes I noticed that as well

Yeah, I've noticed stuff like that before.. S2's episode with the werewolf, when he's hit by the beam of light.. or it could just be me.

And the part you mentioned was becoming rather obvious to me, and I am a Christian, and it was kinda strange to see it in Doctor Who of all things.

The most religious I've seen it get was the various things in Impossible Planet/Satan Pit from S2, but that was more outright..

Hm.
- The Doctor ascending with angels (Voyage of the Damned)
- Rose Tyler inspired by a vision in a dream (S2 finale)
- Emperor Dalek is the 'god of all Daleks' (S1 finale)
- Daleks being a sort of Nazi

Very interesting blog

I've thought about it, too. Sort of like a god/God, he chooses whether some live or die and seems to be above some things. Hmm...

A few spoilers may be littered into this post. I'm trying to avoid them, but I don't know how much everyone has seen thus far.

There are plenty of little things to suggest that the Doctor is akin to a god throughout the new series.

Firstly, the legends surrounding the Face of Boe refer to him as the "Lonely God." The Professor in Voyage of the Damned hinted at it at the end when talking with the Doctor about choosing who got to live and die.

As for the observation comparing the end of Season 3 to the story of Christ, well, it's full of parallels. God and Lucifer were indeed buddies back before the creation of the world. Lucifer realized what power they had in their hands and tried to ursup Heaven, but was damned to Hell. I guess that loosely follows the Master looking into the Time Vortex and going mad.

Also note the fated words the Doctor uttered to the Master... "I forgive you." Isn't that the reason why Christ died on the cross in the first place? He sacrificed himself to save us all.

-nods-
Something like that.

Torchwood has way more in the S1 finale, if you watch it. I prefer the way it's done in Doctor Who though.. more subtle and probably more accurate, if that's the right word.
