I hate it when the item world just gives you these separate patches of land that you can't reach. Makes me wish you could throw diagonally. crying But you can throw diagonally actually.
You can't in Disgaea.
Yes you can, it's a bit hard to aim correctly but it's possible.
Let's say a character can throw five spaces. Usually, he can throw

But if you keep switching between the two rapidely (correctly tap <- and -> rapidely), the area in between get's liberated for diagonal throwing. Although you lose one square. So, the throwing pattern.

And you'll land on the O. This is of course, if you managed to pull it off corectly. At the beginning, the aim can be awful.
or you can just use the hyper drive engine and go any where
