((I am so out of practice, and have been working on this for a while now... Please be honest with what you think of it......via the poll....if you have actual comments on improvements or ideas on how it should progress please please post in here. Thank you!)) PROLOGUE She sat there in her room, as the coldness whirled around her body. Her eyes flat and deviod of all emotion. Nothing was happening to make any joy come to that solmen expression. The finality of what had just been spoken by a the clan seer could not be changed, and destiny had left its mark. Heavy and hard on her simple life. Shaking her head causing her long green hair to swirl around her, as those pale emotionless yellow eyes scanned her room for what might be the last time.
Standing up she went to her small desk/vanity, and touched the ornamental picture frame, which held a family photo. Everyone was so happy in it. Very easily it was to see the love, joy and contentment in each participants face. A solitary tear slide down her face at those memories that sprang up. Muffling a sob with a hand that was brought up she turned and went back to her bed looking out the small window to the village.
"Why me? Why would it have to be me. A low class underling that would get a royal gift..... The gift of the Siren?" she muttered underbreath. It was an oddity, only a few were ever born in a 100 year span. And it would be her horrible luck to pull it. Now at a young age of 17 she would have too leave all she knew and go to the surface world, and be on land till she came into her power one of two ways. With a low growl she pushed off her bed and swam to the semi-low ceiling to remove a panel. In it she took out a small seaweed wrapped bundle holding it close to her as she let herself slowly fall back to her bed in the cold sea water.
About to open it, whan a knock came on her door, and a distinctly commanding female voice spoke. "Ishledea you are summoned to my fathers throne room at once. Have all your stuff that you are taking with you and come right now. I do not like having to run errands for him, let alone too one of your kind." The voice spoke. Making the faint stirrings of a smile cross her face. Not answering as Ishledea shoved the small bundle into the bottom of a waist pouch, which held next to nothing since she owned nothing.
Heading to the door she stopped and swam back to the desk/vanity grabbing the picture. It was her only link too her father and mother.... The latter who passes away shortly last year after she had found out about Ishledea's destiny. Her father should still be alive somewhere..... on the land, since he was a human. Which gave more reason to question why she got the gift. Going back to the door she opened it to see a slender pale skinned and blue haired beauty waiting in patiently. The girl turned her dark blue eyes too her with disdain. "I am ready your royal highness Rel'adrth." Ishledea said in a soft and sweetly mocking tone of voice.
They left the small hovel hut on the edge of the village were her mother and her had been exiled for her being a human man's child. Following the royal princess Ishledea kept her eyes forward, but constantly was watching everything that was going on. All the people had come out and were watching her being led away. Most still looked at her in a loathsome way because of her breeding, some neutral, and other a bit of forced respect, because of what she was and would be come. Not letting it get too her too much she held her head as high as possible without making the princess looked diminished and squared her shoulders. It was 15 minutes later when she enetered the palace courtyard and then the throne room. Keeping what pride she could around her she bowed and let herself kneel on the seaweed covered floor. Her head and eyes down not daring to glance at the kind, his wife for it was disrespectful with out premission. "Ishledea, you may raise your head and look upon us." The Queen Fel'arth said in her sweer but someber voice. At that she raised her head but kept it tilted out of courtsey sakes. The king himself got up and came to her lifting her head to star into her pale yellow eyes. "You leave tonight. During the darkest hour, before the new day. Your journey will take a few weeks as a trial to get to the sea shore. There you will awaken to your power via one of the two ways. Which you choose will decide how your power is granted and used. Also your choice in life." King Dralon said in a deep rumbling bass.
Only able too nod slightly in his strong hand, as she kept her face neutral and her eyes blank. He let her face go and, she turned to leave on her journey. "Know this..... which ever way you choose, you have a year to do it, and be back here. You husband will be awaiting you." He intoned that last sentence with a deathly cold finality. Not bothering to look back as a gesture of her just insulted her knowledge and morality. Ishledea swam out of the palace at a amazing speed no one had been able to match. When the village was leagues behind her she slowed down as the tears that had been held in for a year now since her 15th birthday finally came spilling out.
It would indeed be a long, lonely and cold journey, but she'd be hardened up there just as she was down here on the sea bottom. Be it love or death that she awaken too her poweres she didn't care, she'd do it out of duty, and the fact that then no one would hold weight on her. No one woudl command her not even that proposed husband, for she would be the one they all consulted. Which brought a deathly cold and menacing smile too her teary face. ((This concludes the prolog. I will try to get the first chapter in sometime, while dealing w/ the recent loss of my family. and of course work n bills..... WHOOT! gonk ))

Chapter 1 Crashing into a new reality A storm was raging the night she came close enough to do her change and go ashore. Digging out a large men's shirt and sliding it over her bare chest, and a small small pair what was called boy shorts, Isledea swam closer to the shore. It was her first time ever causing the change, and knowing it was different for each one of them who do it. Some times there was excruciating pain, and at others' it was a smooth flawless n painless transition.
Focusing now with the boy shorts in her left hand, she smoothed out the 'wrinkles' in her mind to picture her tail in it's long green blue glory splitting and forming two long tan legs, with small danity feet. In a matter of seconds she felt a ripping sensation, that wasn't too bad. Keeping her eyes closed while holding firmly onto that image, Isledea then felt a searing itchy feeling as the bone that was once one now formed two. Biting her lips to advert her thoughts from itching, she willed it too faster.
At her thoughts and will, which seemed unbendable, the change completed in another minute or so. Opening her eyes, Ishledea looked down and almost gasped. Her legs were long and slender, and treaded the water. Realizing that she needed to break the surface as her lungs started too burn. Using her arms and legs to the best she did, she made it too the surface. Releasing the old air from her lungs which burned as if on fire, she started to take massive gulps of the salt tanged air. Her mind reeling and a bit disoriented.
Still doing her best with her legs to tread water closer too the shore, she also put the boy shorts on under the shirt. It took her an hour to do all that, but when she reached close enough too the shore, a huge wave came crashing down on her. Pushing her under and up onto the rock scattered beach. Catching her shoulder on one such rock, broke the now delicate and fragile skin making it bleed. Ishledea hissed low as her hand instinctively came up to staunch the small blood flow.
Down the beach a couple of girls were walking. They noticed Ishledea as she was tossed ashore onto a rock. After a bit of chittering talking they walked down too were she was. Ishledea heard them before they got too close and turned her green-yellow eyes at them. A cold, beligerent stare that showed her fear clearly. These girls intent she picked up was one of curiosity and amusement. Which never boded well for her. Trying to stand up on her new legs only caused her to fall down and the blood to flow more freely, staining the huge white shirt more.
The girls arrived and stared at the young woman who was having great difficulty standing up on her own, then noticed the blood stain spreading from her right shoulder... "Oh lord, she's hurt. Let's help her... Miki your in training at the college for med school right?" A tall short haired brunette said to a petite red head, with expresses green eyes. The red head nodded mutely and walked slowly and carefully not to present a threatening presence... "I am Miki....this here is my friend Niomi...I can help you stop the bleeding.. Please let me help you." Miki stated carefully.
Isledea felt a surge of panic, as well as a bit of light headedness from the loss of blood. Bareing what would of been small fangs in her other form she let out a low growl shaking her head. The feeling of worry and concern from the girls intensified. Trying to stand again only made the world swim about her. Causing her too fall on her butt, making it smart as a rounded rock smacked it. Miki took this as a cue, and motioned Niomi to get behind her and hold the hurt girl.
In a matter of seconds Miki had a knife and was cutting away the shirt to reveal a small lacerated cut. "Well miss, the good news is that I can clean and fix that right away, and you'll be fine in a week or two... The bad thing is you'll loose a shirt in the process ok?" she spoke in soft soothing tones. As she stood and helped Niomi shoulder her to take her up to the island station were her car was. "She is out Miki." Niomi stated in a annoyed voice.
Ishledea had gone into a meditative state of mind. And could hear all they were saying, but kept her face blank as she focused what little of her natural powers she had left to healing the wound a bit faster... She didn't want to owe any one anything. The girls managed to get her up the cement steps and laid her down on the ground. Checking too see if anyone of hte many gangs were around her before Miki ran to her small white compact and pulled out an emergancy kit. Then dashing back she began to clean and prep the lacerated cut for a quick sewing. "This is silk thread. I can use this and as the cut heals, enzymes will disolve it naturally, so you wont have to go too a hospital." She spoke in that same soft voice.
As she stitched up the cut, Miki noticed it was already healing and stared at the girl with a curious look. Ishledea immediately stopped what she was doing and moved to tear the thin flesh open. Miki closed her eyes and sighed, "Don't do that..." she said her voice holding a bit of annoyance. "And here, since i wrecked your shirt, you can have my spare...." she said handing her a small belly tee with a picture of a smiley face. Ishledea opened her eyes and stared at her before taking the shirt. The getting up slowly on her knees she spoke with delibrate power in her voice as all mermaids and tritons could do. "Thank you Miki, Niomi... you have my gratitude. Now you may leave and forget you helped me... I am just another person who is around here.." she stated.
The two women's eyes glazed a bit as they got up with the emergancy kit packed, and went back to the car. They were several miles down the road before it wore off. They were confused abit, they remembered seeing a girl at the island station, then nothing else. With a shrug they went home to their shared apartment on the college campus as if nothing at all happened. While back at the station the cold wind with rain blew gustily as Ishledea stood against one of the stone columns. Too her this was warm weather, nothing like the cold freezing Northern alantic currents she was used too. Her body ached from using the power, and was unbalanced.
Turning and with what little balance she had, she made it too a strange glowing maching with a odd cylinder like shape on it. Leaning against it, she slide down and promptly fell asleep. Her new body requiring that she regain some strength. "Man, why did this have to be this way....Now what am I supposed to do......This sucks." she thought to herself as she hit the blackness of obilivion called deep sleep.

(Okay.... I am brain dead, and out of it. So this chapter will probably suck hard core.......) Chapter 2 A intersting first night! Growling low in her throat at the early moring light hitting her, she raised her hand as if to pull the curtains further across her winder. But finding nothing but a solid wall, Ishledea's eyes flew open. The bright light hurting her eyes a bit, as she closed them for a few seconds more. Everything that had happened came flooding back into the front of her mind. Sigh as if the weight of the world was on her shoulders, she slowly pulled herself to a standing position. Trying to think of everything that she was taught about being in a land walkers body.
Her muscles were already rebelling from the cramped position she had slept in. Focusing and taking a few deep breaths she willed the muscles to relax and uncramp. When it was done a sudden pressure in her lower right abdomen hit her, and hard. Placing her hand on it, she tried to think what was causing it, when it came to her... She kept a hand on the wall for some extra balance as she began her slow measured walk to what looked like a bathroom facility. While letting her eyes dart all over, taking note that only a few people were here.
The didn't pay much attention to her at all, which made her feel a bit better. Once in the public restroom, Ishledea looked at the stalls a bit confused for a second or two.. then made her way there, closing the door to one of them behind her...A few minutes later she emerged feeling a bit better, as she walked to a mirron and odd little counter under it. Getting a good look at herself for the first time.
Blinking owlishly at her own reflection as if in disbelief that was her staring back. The image the mirror showed her was a tanned skinned girl, with brown eyes, that had amber yellow flecks in them, shoulder length deep brown hair, with dark green highlights. Tilting her head a bit sad that her hair was so short, Ishledea ran her fingers through it to pull out some tangles, makign it lay flatter against her neck and upper shoudlers.
Turnign away she made her way back out to the open area were she slept. It was much brighter out now. Going past a few people she overheard some of their conversation. "So what are you planning to do tonight? If you have it open would like to go see a movie or something?" The man spoke. A bit of silence before the woman replied, "NO not tonight, i have to study for college exams.... How about tomorrow, since it is Tuesday, I am free." A low chuckle as the man replied, "Ok! I will pick you up here about 7ish."
Leaning back against the machine with the cylinder shape on it, Ishledea processed what was said. "Today is Monday, if tomorrow is Tuesday. At least according to what I was taught. That means I arrived here on a sunday. Ok, now i just need a place to live and something too eat." She thought too herself. Not having a clue how to go about that, and not having anything that woudl be considered currancy on land she growled at her own ineptitude.
As the ho urs flew by, She explored the small area, coming to find out it was the back alleyway for a tram or...Train. Among other things, like the machine she leaned against was a beverage dispenser, which facinated her, that the warm machine gave cold drinkable liquids. Ishledea knew instinctively that most of the people here were not friendly at all...and it showed in how they looked at her, while the others would look at her in smypathy, which rankled her a bit, causing her to glare meanly at them.
Night fell and her stomach was in pain from not finding anything too eat at all during the day. When she heard familiar female voices. "You think that girl is still here Miki?" the one called Niomi said. A bit of silence before Miki replied, "I hope so. I want to make sure she is alright. I worry if she got hit on the head and has amnesia." A small smile graced her lips fleetingly as she peeked around the corner of the drink machine. Her eyes staring at them.
MIki saw her first and sighed with relief. "YOUR here. Thank goodness. Are you ok? did anyone bother you? Let me see your shoudler!" she babled rapidly making Niomi giggle, and the small smile briefly appear on Ishledea's lips. Standing up slowly she bent over and grabbed the small shirt Miki had given her. A bit surprised that the girl didnt' change yet made Miki look at Niomi. "Come on, let's go into the restroom and check your shoulder and put you in some proper clothing." Miki stated slightly amused and worried.
Accepting the command she followed slowly, for her balance was still a bit off, though the earlier exploring helped her a bit. Once in the bathroom Niomi handed a brown bag made of some thin material to Miki who pulled out an assortment of clothing and her emergancy med kit. Motioning for Ishledea to take off her clothing, and getting a bit of a I-don't-understand head tilt she looked at Niomi to explain.
Getting the drift Niomi spoke slowly, "she wants you too do this...." she said as she lifted her shirt up and over her head. Ishledea's eyes went wide as she backed up, not sensing hostility or danger from either. A bit hesitant she did that. As Miki came over and examined the shoulder. "well it healed good and darned fast.... No let's get you into some clean clothing shall we? They are all my old clothes from high school. And don't really fit me any more." Her voice soft and gentle.
In the span of an hour with some fighting on Ishledea's part, about putting something other then her boy shorts on. They walked out too present to a now dark and star lite sky, Ishledea in a mini tank top that revealed her belly, her hair brushed and pulled back into a braid. And sandles on her small delicate feet. Only too receive some stares from the mostly male occupants in the area...
"who's the new honey Miki n Niomi?" said one man, who was tall with spiked green tipped hair. Not liking his tone Ishledea took a step back. Both girls glanced at teh man with great disdain in their faces. "It's none of your business butch." Niomi said scathingly. The two girls turned around and took Ishledea's hands and marched walked her a bit away. "Ok we're gonna tell you somethings... .First, 'STAY!' away from him....he's a lady killer. Second, what is your name..... ? I mean we can't keep calling 'hey you', third and least are you hungry?" Niomi said.
Tilting her head a bit too the side, Ishledea processed what was told too her. At the phrase Lady Killer, she put Butch on the evil people list, and intended to advoid him.... for he was dangerous. Then l ooking at the two girls she slowly and softly spoke making sur eto form the right human words. "I am.......Dea." She spoke not telling them her ture name... "And yes I am very hungry......I like fish?" she said ending it in a slightly confused question.
It made the girls happy to hear her speak. "Ok! Fish it is....I know a quick restaurant we can walk too. We have many more questions for you...and will ask them while we eat ok?" Miki spoke, but this time her voice wasn't a soft quite tone, but more of a friendly normal overture to her. Making Ishledea give a small flash of a smile as she let them lead her too the restaurant.

(Still out of it, but for a bigger reason... gonna be a mommy late next summer... hee hee!) Chapter 3 Dinner and Etiquette.
Ishledea followed the two girls, well more of was dragged along. Remaining silent and taking in the sites and noting distinguishing landmarks as they came to a restaurant. The smell of various fishes made her empty stomach growl rather loudly, making Miki and Niomi turn around and stare at her. This made her feel a bit uncomfortable as heat crept across her cheeks. Looking down and shuffling her feet on the pavement, while her hands clasped and unclasped each other....
The two got the hint really quickly, and smiled knowingly at each other. "Well come on in Dea. It is my treat tonight so pick what you will... the Sashimi is great here, as well as the sushi." Niomi said sweetly as she led them all too a back corner booth quickly. Sitting down and taking a quick peek at everything Ishledea was a bit shocked when someone came too the table and handed out large square paper things with what seemed to be writing on it. "The specials tonight are the fried calamair stir fry or battered Cod with fries ladies." The man said as he took his leave just as quickly to another table.
A quick tilt to her head as she spoke, "Um... what was that about? And what are these paper tablets for?" she said and started to regret it at once when the girls stared at her...causing an awkward silence. a feeling of frustration creasing her brows and darkening her eyes as she stared back at the two girls. When Niomi let out a low whistle, and Miki giggled humorously "what do you mean, what are those paper tablets for.... Those are the menu's. You read them and choose what you want too eat and drink silly!" she said trying her hardest to contain her mirth.
Niomi on the other hand was watching her reaction very closely. Shaking her head she placed a hand on Miki's thigh to hush her. "I don't think she recalls what it is for. I do think the girl has partial amnesia...What a shame. At least she remembers the basics and her name.. Her let me help you decide what you want to eat." she said politely. Getting up she walked to the other side of the table sitting next too Ishledea. Who looked at her briefly and then at the menu trying to recall what she learned of human words.
Niomi was patient and talked slowly but not in a patrinizing manner to her. She quickly recalled with her help the words, and most of their meanings. Nodding her okay to Niomi she glanced at the menu before speaking again. "I would like to have the shashimi with steamed rice and seaweed." her voice low and tentative. Still not too sure what to make of these girls. But for now she would let them be helpful, and give them a bit of her trust. Though they would have to earn her respect.
After they had all ordered Ishledea sat there and watched them talk about stuff a bit forgein to her. Like College, clothing, make-up and other such trivial stuff. Starting to zone out when Niomi asked her a question, making her blink a bit before realizing it. "Umm what did you ask me?" she said in a out of it voice. Making both the girls look at her then burst out laughing. Which for some reason made her blush a bit.
"I asked if you had started too recall anything about yourself yet? I mean you really didn't seem to remember your name at all when we asked you last night. " Miki said to her in a amused but serious voice. Thinking on it, Ishledea wondered what to tell the girls about herself. Too much would cause bad reactions or they'd think she was delirious. Chewing her bottom lips as she thought of an answer to give, she was saved when the waiter brought their food to the table.
The food being an exelent excuse she dug right in. The flatware on the table pretty much the same as what she used back in her home city. At the thought of it she frowned and stopped eating with her fork halfway to her mouth. Her eyes taking on a odd dark tint too them. A mixture of sadness and happiness. With a soft sigh she put her utensil down on the table and stared out the window in the direction of the sea. Her mood suddenly melancholy.
This didn't go unnoticed by Miki and Niomi, who watched Dea with a confused look in their eyes. The glanced at each other from the sides of thier eyes and all. Worry clearly there at what Dea was thinking about. Turning too look back at Dea who was still asorbed with looking out the window. Eventually each picked up their own utensils and began to eat once more. Soon the waiter came back to the table with a pitcher of water incase they needed a refill.
This got Ishledea's attention, as she looked around seeing the other two almost done and watching her. Nodding her head at the waiter to indicate that she didn't want another glass of water. She too picked up her fork it was called and began to eat her own food. Silence ruled the table and meal. Making it seem very awkward to them all. But once each person was done and ready to leave they all got up. Miki paying the bill, before they all left back to the train station.
"you know Dea, your welcome to come back with us. It might be a bit of a hassel sneaking you into the dorms, but at least you'd be warm." Niomi said to her only too receive a shake of the head indicating a no.
