Feral eyed Stardust with a quiet gaze as she addressed her 'beliefs' and 'strategies' for her own pack. However, contrary to what many would expect, the alpha male merely gave a curt nod towards the female. There was no disapproving snarl or arrogant huff—although he probably had to reign in those reactions. Better start rallying them now then too late. The upcoming battle will be a difficult one were doubt will flood the damned pack like a disease. I intend to have at least their bodies prepared and schooled in case their pathetic brains start roting. He subconsciously offered a grim expression at the mere thought of the coming of spring. Unfortunately, the expression was quickly withdrawn when Ember arrived besides them.

Feral's expression instantly darkened towards the new wolf. A furious snarl escaped from his throat as he barely gave much attention towards the other male's calm greeting. It shall be unwanted if you do not begin humbling yourself before THE Alphas, pup. His lips were curled back and fangs bore ruthlessly.

Meanwhile, Damien winced and bit is lips as Riya offered her love in a very painful breaking of his toes. Hopefully, they were only bruised. He had half a mind to squeeze the girl tighter since, if it were up to him, there was little chance that he would let her go anytime soon. However, his attention was drawn to the scene Feral was about to make. In alarm, he unconsciously dropped Riya and ran to Feral's side.

"Feral," he hissed at the giant black wolf in disapproval. Unfortunately, the angered wolf ignored him. Damien frowned and reached out to touch the bristling fur. I suggest you stop, the captain pressed on with a meaningful tone.

Feral rose from his crouch and threw an annoyed glance towards Damien. You humans and your pathetic ways. He lowered his body onto the ground.

Damien grabbed a fistful of fur and jumped onto Feral's back. He turned to the others. "Perhaps we should move this conversation into the fort?" Then again, that may not be the wises decision since then nothing would be holding Feral back from his madness.

Their minds first, then their bodies, Stardust commented, though she agreed that some training would be in order before spring came. Lack of preparation never did anyone good, as the last month had shown. It was probably their own fault for relaxing into a state of arrogance, believing that they could always defeat the centipedes. Strength means nothing if they do not have a clear mind to control it.

What happened next was expected, as Stardust stayed quiet and raised her ears towards Ember's calm response, eyeing him with a slightly disappointed look. He was no longer a puppy and could not get away with simply being nice to adults - he was nearing his adulthood and as such, he would be expected to visibly submit to his superiors. Likewise if a wolf from the other pack had failed to show her any respect, she would've had his muzzle in her jaws within a second.

Riya noticed the snarl that erupted from Feral as well, but she was more concerned with the fact that Damien was bearing the pain of her heel digging into his toes. She prepared to knee his thigh, hoping to bring his attention to his bloodthirsty wolf, but he seemed to have noticed the situation at hand and quickly let her go. Unfortunately, her body position was not ready for the sudden lack of force and as soon as he released her, Riya stumbled backwards and her butt hit the hard floor with a soft "Oomph!"

Normally she would've been very angry, but she was aware that Damien was trying to take control of the situation, so she forgave him.. for now. Standing up stiffly, Riya winced as she gently rubbed her bottom. That was a hard fall and she just knew there would be a bruise tomorrow. Maybe leaving off some on-wolf training would be a good idea for the next few days.

"You're coming in?" Riya frowned when she heard Damien's suggestion - not really surprised, but she had been hoping he'd decide to leave given Feral's bad mood. Well, there goes that hope. This was not going to be a good day.

Following Feral's example, Stardust moved back to Riya and lowered her small frame to the ground. Yes, we should return to the Fort.

Pushing herself gracefully onto Stardust's back, Riya looked around and noticed that Kael was still off to the side. Clearing her throat to catch the apprentice's attention, she motioned towards her brother - hopefully the girl would be smarter than her wolf and salute the superior officer. "Kael, may I formally introduce you to the General Captain, Damien White of New Eve?"

[OOC: Just so it's known, Ember was already submitted before he even walked out of the fort to meet them XD His whole 'expand or shrink' thing wasn't referring to his posture - it was referring to whether he moved back or not. And I will quote - 'The young male's head was already lowered as he exited the Fort, knowing full-well that there was at least one superior that he would come in contact with - one he had not submitted to on the earlier encounter, if nothing else'.

So....yeah. Already head lowered and everything o.o' But....m'kay XD It's more fun this way anyway]

Ember was mildly startled by Feral's outburst, blinking innocently at both he and Stardust. Ok, was...there a procedure he did not know about? Apparently his submission had been misconstrued as simply the way he carried himself...he guessed. Apologies, Alpha he said, taking on a more serious tone...but calm nonetheless, I was already showing submission as I entered, making sure my posture was correct for such a meeting before you even saw me, but I see that was not wise. I made an error in assuming it would be immediately recognized. Next time, I will make sure to make it more apparent. My sincerest apologies, I meant absolutely no disrespect to you nor to Lady Stardust he replied, lowering his nose nearly to the ground to make up for it. He would not pretend that he had never submitted, no, because that would be false and he refused to agree to anything but truth even in the presence of an Alpha, but...he would also not pretend like he did everything correctly. That was part of being a pup. So next time, no trying to get ahead of the game and submitting before they can SEE you move to submit. It'll just look like you're lazy and don't know how to hold your head up.

Kael's eyebrows furrowed lightly at the sudden turn of events, knowing that Ember had submitted....but was reprimanded anyway. Biased though she may be, the Apprentice did not feel that Ember deserved the treatment he just received. This time, she kept her mouth shut. Feral was....less than completely stable, and maybe Ember made an unforseen error in attempting to correct his posture early. Her own posture did not change, but a quiet annoyance filtered through her eyes.

Damien's interference was....much appreciated. At least he seemed to have a firm grasp on reality, regardless of Riya's opinion of him.

She then turned her attention to Riya and then to Damien, saluting the man along with offering a very, very slight smile. She would have smiled a little more, but.....well, that annoyance still lingered in her eyes. Not an annoyance directed t'wards him - so far she had a fairly good opinion of the man. He gave a good first impression. Now why Riya disliked him so....she ignored that for the moment. "A pleasure, sir. I am Apprentice Kael Icewynd. Lieutenant Riya has spoken of you in the past." spoke Kael, ignoring the actions of the wolves or any mention of it - the tone of her voice reflected nothing but normalcy. Wolf matters were wolf matters, and unless she was directly involved she would make no move to comment on it. Ember knew what he had 'done', even if that was simply an error in judgment and not an error of rank.

I'm sorry. he said quietly to Kael, lowering himself so she could mount again.

It's alright. Don't trouble yourself over it, she soothed, feeling the slight embarrassment that he felt over the misunderstanding. There had been times that he forgot rank, but it had never been in the presence of Stardust or Feral...and he would certainly never do it knowing what he knew about Feral's temper. That wolf was infamous. The white-haired girl was just glad that he was not the type of wolf to get defensive over his miscalculation - smarting off to the volatile Alpha would not be a good idea. Kael was almost hesitant over Ember's explanation, but felt that he worded it well enough. He admitted his mistake.

Ember felt a little better at Kael's soothing. Honestly, he didn't feel very bad to begin with - the wolf was too easy-going to get much more than a little embarrassed and remorseful - but still. He didn't like not being anything less than perfect for Kael. That was certainly much less than perfect. And now she was annoyed over it.

I am not annoyed over it, I am annoyed over the way you were treated. You know how I am. she corrected as she got on his back, rubbing the fur on his shoulders gently. Kael was tolerant over many things, but ABSOLUTELY intolerant of injustice. To anyone, from anyone. And even if perhaps no actual injustice had been allowed and it was simply a matter of a difference in perception...she reacted negatively. It was her own issue, one that was there for good reason. Now stop worrying. No harm done.

...at least she HOPED there was no harm done.

Bigpaw huffed quietly at the young wolf miscalculation. He was definately not used to being around those of the highest rank. YOu always had to wait for your submission to be aknowledged before you relaxed, it was how things went. Bigpaw also looked a little dissaprovingly as the wolf bowed, he was not a fan of the new ways of submission, it was more of a personal preference, he had always preffered showing his throat, or laying belly on the ground in front of the Alphas. He had always been a traditionalist first and foremost.

He got up as the other wolfs did and for the first time approached Stardust in a humble way, afterall they were in the White Shadow fort grounds. He knew he was always welcome to ghost around at New Eve but to be in anothers fort as a stray, in his mind, meant he needed permission. If we are moving to inside the fort, Stardust, do I have permission to enter as a stray?

Bigpaw knew all wolves of rank were always welcome everywhere but ever since he had become a stray he was learning he rules were a little different when you had no rider. Honestly it was a precaution, he had his own Alpha, Feralblood right there so he would prabably be allowed in, but Feral was not in exactly a forgiving mood because of the pups mishap and he being an older wolf and of Ferald pack might be severely punished if he happened to misstep in this atmosphere.

Starsinger watched as his brother had to ask permission to enter the White Shadow fort. He felt an ache in his heart for Bigpaw in that moment. He knew his brother to be a proud wolf, and it must smart a bit to have to ask permission for everything, but now that he was a stray he was the lowest of ranks by default and so it was nesesary. Starsinger knew that if Bigpaw was any other wolf he might just follow everyone  and not ask, but he was always traditional and thats how it was way back in the day, so thats how Bigpaw acted now.

He lay down as The alphas had done to allow Skye to mount him. He was a little worried about Ember, especialy with Feral mad. It was scary enough to just be around Feral but to have him mad around you was just.....scary. Well at least they were going into the fort now...right small areas, everyone huddled together, he was bound to be able to keep someone between himself andFeral...and worst come to worst there would be walls around that he could hide behind...

Skye mounted Starsinger easily and semi gracefully. She had never been the most gracefull of people, but she wasnt that clumsy either. She watched Feral with a trained eye, afterall she had been the Seargeant for a while now and so she knew Ferals temper. She was grateful for Damiens pressence, if it was just the wolves then poor Ember might have ended up worse for wear, and would prabably harbor bad thoughts towards the New Eve pack. Skye had developed a strong belief in Kharma because of Keith and was glad that nothing had gotten to out of hand. If those bad thoughts had been let out then they might have had a few extra casualties in the next battle.

Once starsinger straightened up again Skye automatically clutched his fur rather roughly. She had always been afraid of sudden elevation changes, a fear she ironically had developed after falling off of Starsinger one day. She watched as Kael introdiced her self with an annoyed look. HO NO!!! maybe the bad kharma was already spreading...well the girl didnt look too anoyed. Skye tried to give her a dont-mind-ferals-temper look, but she knew it prabably wouldnt do much good.

"Well to the fort we go?" Skye asked as she looked from Riya to Damien. Damien seemed intent on going inside but Riya still seemed hesitant.

[ooc: I guess that would be fine. But as good reference, I figured show of submission to wolves is similar to saluting for humans; it's uncommon and rather odd if people start saluting before the group even sees them. And also, usually submission is a full-body lowering not just the head so I think it would also be easier and more natural for them to show that submission when the alphas notice them but I guess he could have half-crawled all the way to them… Starr says that sounded offensive but… ;_; I mean well! Really! -shot for being mean-]

Damien either didn't catch or chose to ignore Riya's disapproving glance. Instead he offered a genuine smile. "Of course, dear sister. Lady Shizuka would have my head if I left now."

Feral was not appeased but few probably expected him to be. There was still a clear displeasure across the alpha’s lips expression, growing darker at Ember’s extensive excuses or what he saw as such. The pup’s words were like sickly sweet cream overwhelming his sense and leaving an unpleasant taste on his tongue. He had half a mind to snap at the pup again just to make him shut up. Then again, that would be overstepping a fine line. How much of his damned existence would be wasted if every idiotic wolf started sweeping out an hour of apologies for every wrong deed done? All he needed was a quick correction and then the small incident vanishes from his mind.

As soon as the pup eased his nose lower, Feral eased his tense body and shifted his attention was elsewhere in silent acceptance of the younger wolf’s presence. Tolerance was his acceptance. His mind shifted back to Damien since he deemed his rider as flawed and needed constant watch.

Damien seemed generally unaffected by the moods of his wolf. He offered a curt and friendly (as friendly as Damien gets) nod towards the said Kael. "Likewise, Kael. I assure you, most of what Riya informs you is false. Whether for worst or better, I'll let you decide."

Momentarily, his attention was returned to his sergeant. He nodded towards her as though to confirm is decision. Riya should know Shizuka expected his visits mostly since they haven’t visited the place in a while. He eyed the gates and felt his wolf tense at the idea. They could always dart for the gates and loose Riya.

Riya observed the polite exchange between Damien and Kael with ill-concealed annoyance, running her fingers impatiently through her wolf's mane as she waited impatiently. "I do not lie," she muttered under her breath at Damien's comment, rolling her own eyes in frustration. The only thing she was guilty of was... well, embellishing certain tales.

Glancing quickly at Ember, Riya was satisfied to see that he wasn't cowering in fear as most other wolves would in the same situation - good for him. Someone needed to stand up to Feral, he certainly could be a bully when he wanted to, simply because he was such a drama queen.

Don't mind Feral too much - there's no pleasing him, Stardust assured Ember quietly, knowing this was the first time the young wolf had dealt with the likes of the Alpha. Snowy was far more lenient, so most wolves in her pack that met Feral for the first time usually found their muzzles within his jaws or quickly scurried away with their tails tucked safely between their legs. But she thought it was a good experience for Ember, since he now understood what a leader expected of subservient wolves.

"If we're done with all the pleasantries, perhaps we can actually go back inside now?" Riya asked nicely, with the touch of a sweet smile to boot. But she was certain Damien could see the annoyed glint in her eyes that suggested severe physical pain if he did not move his big fat butt soon. Not bothering to wait for his reply, Riya nudged Stardust to turn, which the wolf did grudgingly.

Stardust nodded to Bigpaw in permission for him to follow before walking slowly back towards the fort. She wasn't particularly fond of stepping in front of Feral, especially when he was in one of his moods, but she could feel her human's urgency. Fortunately, she was a fellow Alpha and Feral probably wouldn't be offended by her walking ahead. Or, so she hoped... who knew when he was still sulking in his rage. Maybe we should run ahead and close the gates?

[OOC: Lol! It wasn't mean, don't worry XD I know what usual submission is, but no one's really said....what is usual for telepathic wolves until you just said that. Unless it's written somewhere and I didn't see it. XD And since they can't exactly roll over and expose their belly cause they usually have people on them, wasn't sure what to do. No matter, my mistake X3 S'more fun. He's a pup, so he does need to make mistakes]

Thank you, Lady. I'll take him at his word, though. It was my mistake, and I don't want to take it lightly. he replied somewhat sheepishly to Stardust, his tone still holding more embarrassment than fear. He was thankful for her words, but...eh, this too would pass. The sooner they could move on from it, the better. And it seemed they would be moving on sooner than he expected; the wolf watched quietly as it was decided - sort of - that they would all move back within the gates now. Kael would be happy for that. As Stardust moved, though, he thought very briefly about following...and then thought better of it. With one mistake made, maybe it would be better to NOT try to move in front of Feral. He hadn't moved yet and neither had the other wolves, so Ember wouldn't either. Made more sense to let the two Alphas go first and for Stardust to decide whether or not the stray was allowed in (if she hadn't already). Right?

....man, this was much more confusing than it probably should be. They should go back in the Fort. Everything made sense in there. Well...more sense, at least.

Kael nodded and chuckled very softly at Damien's words as she stroked the fur on Ember's neck. So far, the man proved to be an interesting and amusing leader. Of course, not everything could be gleaned from such a brief meeting, but first impressions were often profound. She watched the two leaders carefully, increasingly entertained by the quiet interaction between the two. It was subtle now, so subtle...but it seemed as if there was more going on than any of them could pick up on - save for Riya and Damien, of course. They probably knew perfectly well. Or maybe the white haired girl was over-reading everything, and they were just funny to watch. Whatever the reason, Kael had to try very hard to keep from smirking, though she did cast an amused, questioning look at Riya as the Lieutenant moved.

Honestly, it almost felt like someone was about to bolt for the gate, or something like that - there was a tension in the air unrelated to Ember's offense. She was glad to be going inside and away from the cemetery, but the feeling in the air was simply...odd.

Kael looked to Skye at that point, trying to ask with her eyes if the other rider felt it as well.

((sorry this took so long ><))

Bigpaw got up with a slight groan, he didnt mean it in any way it was just that he had been in the same potition for so long that his muscles ached a bit as he now moved them. It did seem the proper time to get up anyway everyone was done chiding the pups and the decision seemed to have been made to head back inside the fort. That sounded good to him, he didnt want to be at the cemetary anymore, he was done mourning for the day. Bigpaw looked over to his brother starsinger and shook his head. He never understood why Starsinger was so afraid of Feral, he should be proud of such a pack leader! But his brother still cowered and Bigpaw knew he would never understand it. He stratched himself in as hidden a way as possible, tensing his muscles and letting them relax without moving, he just wanted to make sure he got his blood flowing again afterall he couldnt exactly just strut into the fort he had to wait for everyone to go in ahead of him, he was at the bottom of the totem pole now.

Starsinger was bathed in relif when Riya made the decision to get inside the fort, people things, all the familiar comforts would be around him and he would be able to forget about the scary alpha. He quivered a little in anticipation and made a semi-obvious effort to not look at Feral and keep his eyes on Stardust and everyone else. He was hoping it would look like he was being vigilant, after all the last thing he wanted was to redirect Ferals bad temper in his direction, but with Feral in one of his moods Starsinger was afraid and intimidated by him.

Skye lay a reasuring hand on Starsingers back as she sat there waiting for Damien to lead Feral inside. She knew that Starsinger was a little afraid of Feral and she always hoped that he would grow out of that fear. But everyone has their fear and so she never really bothered him about it, he was just to gentle of a dog to get along with Feral in her opinion. She looked at Damien expectantly after all he was the leader and she hoped that hhe was indeed entering the fort. She had been out in the cold way to long and her earlier tears had teken alot out of her, she felt drained and a warm place sounded like heaven at the moment. STill she tried to look as profesional as possible u she knew that if anyone looked hard enough they would see how tired she was. She gave a smile to Riya and turned to Damien. "Well sir, after you." She said politely.

As Riya spoke up, Damien had to grin at her clear annoyance. He felt his wolf moved under him without any necessary command or even an extended thought. Feral was always good at keeping up with him which sometimes still manages to surprise him. His wolf fell a few steps short of Stardust. "For you, Riya, never," The captain grinned widely, "Is Riya finally inviting her loving older brother into her fort?" He looked overly touched as though her words were truly sweet and loving. Well, a man can hope, can't he?

Feral felt and knew Damien better then he would admit proven by the natural habit of moving and reaction before anything could pass between rider and wolf. The dark wolf sighed mentally feeling his rebel pride bruised slightly at the thought. However, the alpha's attention and concern was quickly redirected towards Starsinger, the next unfortunate wolf of their current group. His steps slowed slightly as red eyes flickered back to observe the beta. He was well aware that Starsinger was quite uneasy in his presence and he was also aware that his quick temper did not help very much. However, it was about time the beta stepped up to his rank. He would not have a ranking wolf cowering like all the other pups he beats down on. Even Feral knew well of his flaws and what use is a ranking wolf if he did not have the backbone to counter his alpha when needed. His lips suddenly curled back slightly to show of annoyance and a lower rumbled echoed through the already tense group. However, the sound did not seem too aggressive if you listened closely. Step up Starsinger. Will you not walk besides me? It was more a command from Feral than anything else.

Damien seemed unconcerned at Ferals actions which usually meant nothing serious was about to break out anytime soon. Instead the rider seemed in shallow thought as he glanced at Riya again. The man seemed to be debating on something for a moment before he finally spoke up again with a more serious expression and tone. "Riya, how has Shizuka been?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2009 1:23 am

Stardust immediately relaxed as the group began moving, noting that the others had been smart enough not to step in front of Feral. That would surely have erupted into another fire, most likely worse than the first one. Yes, we live and we learn, she responded to Ember, nodding approvingly at his thoughts. He was indeed learning fast and soon he would be ready. But until then...

Riya cast a quick glance behind her to make sure the others were following, not wanting to leave them out in the cold (except maybe her 'loving' brother). The tension had been growing steadily, which wasn't unusual given Feral's presence, but no need to ask for more unnecessary trouble. She allowed a quiet look of exasperation towards Damien as she quietly muttered, "You invited yourself." That and as General Captain, it was as much his Fort as hers - unfortunately.

Why, I think Feral's trying to act nice, Starudst commented to her rider as she cast a sly glance at the male Alpha. Perhaps he was attempting to force the fear out of the Beta, but she thought he might just be frightening poor Starsinger even more. If he really wanted to be nice... no, summer would freeze over before something as absurd as that happened. But Stardust slowed down as well as she curiously awaited the Beta's response.

Not too concerned with the wolf interactions, Riya looked towards the Fort in anticipation of losing Damien inside. Perhaps she could say she had official duties to attend to? So long as he didn't ask her about his mother. But of course, luck was never on her side.

Riya turned her head slightly to take a better look at her brother, noting his serious demeanor. With a heavy sigh, she realized he would've asked sooner or later, and they couldn't avoid the subject forever. "Your mother is... fine," she started slowly, emphasizing the relation - she still never understood why Damien addressed their matron by name. "As fine as anyone would expect of her, anyways." A pause as Riya pondered her next statement. "I think she'll be happy to see you."

That had essentially trapped her into accompanying Damien to see Shizuka, but it couldn't be avoid. The poor woman needed some company, but Riya did not want to be stuck with the two of them alone. Looking over at the other two, she decided that more people might help cheer up the ex-Captain. "I think Kael and Skye should join us. Seeing more people might please her, don't you think?" she asked Damien with a soft smile.

Ember fell into his proper place amongst the others, the link between he and Kael rather quiet as far as verbal speech goes. It was a comfortable silence, thankfully. The tension had begun to release itself as they moved inside, though...how long that would last was questionable. Heh, what an oddly violent temper Feral had! It must be effective due to his position, but - quite honestly - Ember felt like he needed to chill out. Life was so much more fun when you didn't have a branch stuck up your-

Eeeeasy there Kael commented, very nearly smirking at the thoughts of her wolf. It was good that he had so quickly assumed his normal demeanor - or mostly normal, anyway - but words stated in the heart often came out of the mouth, at one point or another. Oh, what a disaster that would be. The idea of that was hardly a laughing matter, and quickly removed that trace of a smirk from her face. She, nor Ember, couldn't afford anymore offenses right now, at least when it came to Feral. Nevermind that. Much more interesting to her at the moment was the movement back into the fort..and their sudden invitation to join the siblings to greet Shizuka. Kael listened and watch with seemingly little interest one way or another though, privately, she did not want to impose. If it were her, she wouldn't want a large group of people suddenly coming to see her.

Aha, but you're NOT her, so...there Ember responded, his tail swishing happily as he moved with the others. A visit would be fun, he thought.

I simply think it may be rude. I won't object to going. Kael responded evenly, playing with bits of Ember's hair. She didn't care if they went or not, she was just commenting on the situation. Perhaps it could be an interesting encounter...goodness knows they were racking up points in the 'interesting encounter' scale today.
