gotta question... do you guys forward march on your toes or on your heels? every band that i see forward marches on their heels (including ours) and marches backwards on their tippy toes. at the football game last friday, we played lake weir high school as an away game and during their halftime show, they marched on forward on their toes? does anyone else do that? before last friday, i have never seen any other band march on their toes except if they were backmarching.

yeah, lake weir band is the only band i've ever seen that points their toes when they march and roll on to their heel. and also, sad part is is that they look awesome doing it too lol. half of our band doesn't march on their heels even and we look like slop lol. aw well.

Marching Forward = On heels Jazz Running Forward = On toes
(Jazz running is a big step size type thing, what the guard do.)

We roll-step forward, which is heel-to-toe. As far as bigger steps, we just get lower to the ground. Wouldn't it be easier to fall if you march on your toes forward?

It helps you to glide, so that you don't bounce around and interfere with your air flow / breath control, or, if you play something larger like me, it helps to keep from getting knocked out by the instrument. 3nodding

We roll, beginning with our heels, of course. The only exception is when we're jazz-running, or moving really far. Then we're on the balls of our feet. Perhaps that is what you saw?

nope! even marching on the field in the lines they were doing it and every other count they'd raise their arms, it looked really weird but they looked way more professional than our band. half our band doesn't even know how to stay in step.
