But how quickly we forget
Such a sure and perfect plan,
And unlearn the passions that once had burned.

Okay, so at Interlochen, our voice teacher was Carlotta. Not that she was rude or had an awful voice... she actually played Carlotta in some touring productions of ALW's PotO. She was talking about how she was really the only one who had to be classically trained in the whole of PotO and that Carlotta was probably the hardest role in the production. I told her I agreed, and that I knew about the pre-recorded title song and Carlotta having the same high E as Christine. (don't believe me? try listening to Notes I -- Non vo' cantar!) Carlotta has to sing that onstage every night, but Christine just has to sing it once: when they make the recording for the title song.
This is when she revealed to me some shocking information. In some productions, Christine's range doesn't even INCLUDE that high E! Because they're cheating already when they make the recording, if she can't sing the E, she just sings her highest note and it's electronically bumped up to an E. Carlotta, meanwhile, actually has to sing that note, whether her range includes it or not -- our voice teacher told me that she did countless exercises in her voice lessons so that she could be able to reach it.
I have a TON of more respect for Carlotta now.

But how could I have seen?
What was I to do?
How could I know I would find you?
