Introduction

How's it going guys? I'm trying to get my mind off a recent break-up, so I thought I'd try to do that, while at the same time trying to bring a little bit of LIFE back into this guild. I've noticed people have been rather quiet recently. Please remember to READ EVERYTHING. I'll know if you didn't more than likely, because you'll end up doing something wrong. And that makes for an unhappy Ross. I'll just introduce myself as Ross, the almighty judge, creator, and sovereign of all events and contests. (Yes this is how I will introduce myself from now on.) Feel free to ask me questions, but please ask via pm or in the OTHER threads, not this one. The contents of your post in this thread should be professional. This is an art contest meant to test your skills as a creative artist of lines and shapes, perhaps even color and shades. The requirements are to COMPLETELY read the instructions and anything else that I post.I have no artist skills, never have since I was little. Sure I can draw, but it makes people laugh. My stick figures are probably what people like the most about my drawing abilities. When STICK FIGURES are the best you can do... That's just a little reminder that you suck eggs at drawing. So instead of an example drawing, please enjoy this amazing picture of Lucifer, which I found on the intertubes.

Rules

Obviously there have to be some rules applied, otherwise things could get out of hand. There will be absolutely None of the following:
- Stealing other people's ideas - Arguing with the judge (step off it man) - Being rude or telling someone that their entry sucks - No pre-created characters (unless they're from legend or mythology) - No spoofs - No more than one entry per person - No late entries
The above are one part of the rules... The rest of the rules are as follows:
- Follow all instructions - Follow the rules - Ask questions if you are unsure - Characters must be 100% your own
I reserve the right to, at any time, change the rules without notice. But I'm a nice guy so don't worry about that. I'm only an a** when someone deserves it.
Be original with your work. Don't create "all too similar characters" that reflect on copyrighted characters in the media. (Media is books, advertisements, radio, TV, et cetera) Points will be taken off if your work is too similar to something I've seen or heard of, unless it is something from legends or myths. Examples would be Dracula, Ra, Lucifer/Satan, Jesus, Yankee Doodle, et cetera. You can pm me and ask questions if you're not sure. And lucky be the guy who cheats and uses a similar character that I don't catch. But that shouldn't happen. If you notice that someone's character looks 'all too similar' please send me a message and I'll keep your name anonymous and bust the cheater. Also, if you see a pose that is all-too-similar (like only minor things have been changed) please let me know, and send me what you think the picture is copied from.

Judging

Of course, I will be the only judge... hence the 'Almighty Sovereign' title. That means I will not be entering this contest. (Awww, yes sad I know. Then again I wouldn't enter any kind of art contest unless it was dealing with the digital altering of the photo or picture. I'm good with that. XD) You will be given the chance of making thirty points. Each mistake will count off as follows:
All too similar characters = 3 pts Squiggly lines = 5 pts PER error Line gaps where the do not belong = 5 pts PER error Captions/Speech bubbles = 8 pts PER phrase Stick Figures = 15 pts Stealing ideas = Disqualification Graphic Sex Scene = Disqualification Spoof/plagarism = Disqualification
Wow. Be careful about those! It could seriously damage your score! Ah, but that's not the entire scoring system. Also, originality. I know something special when I see it. It's actually possible to make more than a thirty if you do a really great job. Just make sure you have fun. Again, I reserve the right, to at any time, change the grading system. It's my contest... And I do what I want. But trust me, I'm a nice guy so no worries.

What You're Drawing

So now the question that matters the most! "What am I drawing?" This is a fun contest, guys, and for all the participants, you can draw almost anything that you want. But here are the conditions:
-You must have ONE HUMAN-LIKE creature, meaning a head, two arms, two legs, a body... basic human anatomy but you can change it up and make it an angel or give it cat ears and fur and... stuff. XD
-You can have more than one person/creature in your drawing, but it is not necessary.
-You can depict love, but please no sex. You can have 'suggestive' or 'censors'. But no graphic, alright?
-You can depict violence, gore, blood... There really isn't a limit on that. I don't care if your character is in two pieces, their eyeballs hanging on be sinews of muscle, they're vomiting up blood and meat chunks, their entrails are spilling out... I don't care if your character is being stabbed or stabbing, slicing throats or killing an animal... So no worries about that.
-You must give the picture a title. An example would be if I had a picture of a young girl crying by a lake on a moonlit night, my title could be anything from 'Girl Cries Beside Moonlight Lake' to something as abstract as 'Sympathy' or 'Darkness'. Just put a few words at the top or bottom of your picture and let it be the 'title' of your work.
You do not have to depict a scene if you do not want to. If you would like to, however, then feel free. All I want is AT LEAST one human-like creature as the CENTER of your work. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

Q & A

Here's the Question and Answer section. Any questions you have will be posted here by me, and then answered. This is a reference for if you're not sure what to do.
Q: Can I have animals and humans in my picture? A:Yes you can. But make sure you have a human as the MAIN FOCUS of the picture.
Q: Can I draw yuri or yaoi? A: Yes, but keep it soft. The proper terms would be Shoujo-ai and Shonen-ai, because neither of those depict graphic sex scenes between the two. They can be kissing, holding each other, (men can be shirtless with buttons on their pants undone; women can be in underclothes as long as nothing can be seen) or *about* to go at it, but there can be no *sex*.
Q: Can I draw hentai as long as it's censored? A: I'd rather you not. If you mean 'hentai' as in the actual act of 'sex' then no. But if it's a heterosexual couple and their clothes are still on, then you may.
Q: Can I draw an actual scene from something? A: If you mean like a movie, no. These ideas must be original... or if it's something like 'the war between heaven and hell', you can do that because it's mythology.
Q: I want to just draw a guy in a shirt and shoes. Can I do that? A: Certainly. It doesn't have to be anything exotic.
Q: Do I have to color my picture? A: I don't require it, but I'd like it if you did. Unless you left it black and white for artistic purposes. Some things are meant to be seen in color, and some things are meant to be seen in black and white. I'm sure you'll be able to figure these things out.
Q: What if my character looks too similar to another character but I didn't know about that other character? A: That will be up to me to decide. I'm generally a good judge of character, and I know most of the people in this guild's personalities so if it's an honest mistake I'll let it go.
Q: If you do let it go (that the character looks similar) does that mean we have to re-draw our character? A: It depends on HOW similar the character is. Sometimes character's just look similar. Just do a sketch, let me see it, and then I'll tell you if you need to re-do it.
Q: If I decide to join, but then I decide I don't want to do it, is that bad? A: Well it's good to hold up to your commitments, but I understand if you're overloaded with schoolwork or family/personal matters.
Any other questions, please pm me and I'll answer them via pm, then post them up here with the answers just in case you forget, and so that other's know the answer as well.

Final (Instructions)

Wait a minute Ross-sama!!! What about deadlines!!!???Deadlines, huh? Yes, there is a deadline. You are free to post your entry whenever you wish. Yes. POST. Post your work in this forum with your username at the top. Yeah I know your username is right next to your entry, but I'd like your name on the top. So do it. The deadline (in other words 'get it in by date') is October 5th. That means you cannot turn it in on the 5th. Turn it in on or before the 4th. Once the posting is closed (I will post 'Closed' under the final entry, and lock the posting since I'm a mod), any entries submitted will be ignored if I forget to lock the posting. NO EXCEPTIONS. I'm a stickler for on time assignments. Now that you've read through this... you've got a little more to go. Here's a little rant that just needs to be included. No plagarism! No characters that were not created by you! You must create your own characters. You may have REAL people, or famous fictional/mythical people (such as David Copperfield, Dracula, Oprah). And no Manga/Anime characters. No obviously similar characters (to anime or manga). If you aren't sure, pm me about it. I'll nail you if you create a character that's too similar to another in anime or manga. And this is just a big annoyance of mine... NO SHINIGAMI. Death Note fans need to chill for a while. I've been running into them all over the place. I need a break from them. To apply for: If you are interested in joining this contest, you must obviously be a member of A GUARDIAN'S HEART. Send a pm to Kavvana (make sure you put TWO V's and one N in that, because there is another user named Kavanna. She'll be like 'wat da hell?' She's very nice though, so if you accidentally send her an entry, apologize and everything should be fine. It might be easier to avoid that problem by just clicking here to send me a pm.) stating your username and at the bottom write 'Ross-sama is the greatest' so that I know you read everything. Otherwise, I'll take off points... Trust me. I'll take 'em off. Once I receive the pm, I'll tell you what to actually write on the top of your entry. Make sure you remember, otherwise I'll take off five points. Now you need to know what your entry pm is going to look like, yes? Well here's an example. Make sure the SUBJECT is 'AUTUMN WRITING CONTEST'.
Username: Kavvana Questions? Can I draw an angel? What I plan to draw: Actually I'm not sure yet. But I'll be doing a scene from the battle of heaven and hell.
So, you've read through it all. W00t! Now hurry up and go start on that entry! But don't forget to send me a pm if you want to turn in some work. I won't pay attention to your entry if you don't go through proper procedure. I realize this is a bit strict but, wow... In life you've got to do things a certain way.
WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!
Before you go, don't you want to know what the PRIZE is? PRIZE!? HOMGZLOLZBBQPWNZPRIZE! Yes, there is a prize. There's a prize of 1K for the winner. And also the happiness of knowing you beat everyone else and you're awesome. Wait, it's about having fun and improving your skills, not winning... >.> *cough* Alright then! Have at it!

NOTICE
The autumn art contest of '08 has been canceled due to lack of activity in guild and lack of participants. It was a nice run while we had it. Thanks to everyone who participated in the previous events, and good luck in the future.
In short: This event (and all future events) are canceled because the guild died.
=( For balance of post.
