Tonight was the opening night of a brand new musical called Swamp Opera. It was pretty much a blast, even if the last four months haven't been. I'm proud to say that I was part of the original cast of this show. Even if it makes it to Broadway and is changed this way and that, I can still say that I was in the very first cast of it and I remember how it was, even a few revisions before the one we performed tonight, which is a pretty cool thing to say if you ask me.
It made me curious, though: Has anyone else been part of an original cast/original play of something?

That's really cool!
I just found out today, actually, about auditions for a new musical...well it's not really new, considering it had reading workshops in Cali like 7 years ago, and they made a demo cd as well as a amatuer performance at a local college... but they are having auditions in a month, which will play in a theatre with over 1000 seats, a stipend (although it's not officially an equity production) and even make a cast album. I might DIE if I don't get it, but who knows.
The only other professional show I've done is one I'm currently in right now, Reefer Madness, The Musical. It's AWESOME. I don't get paid very much...and I'm only ensemble, but I get to be on stage a lot, singing and dancing, and the show is a relatively small cast, but it's still technically professional theatre; however, it's not the original production. It was in LA for almost 2 years, and moved to Off-Broadway where it closed after a week or two (because of 9-11, and one of the last lines in the show is "when danger's near, exploit their fear")... yeah. I can only say it's professional because I get paid something...
I bet you learned a lot about the business from doing your show! I've always wanted to originate a part, so you're really lucky! (especially if it's a good show!
What was it like?

It's pretty fun. A bit stressful though because our writer changed things on us a whole lot. Also, the music was hard because it was orginally composed with our writer's husband just playing the songs on his guitar and singing so adding in harmonies and stuff was interesting... But it's a cool feeling. I hope you get yours!!!
