We will always carry the mark left from the deal made that day, the silver on our bodies as the reminder. My elder brother has silver hair, while an older cousin of mine has a silver tongue - both literally and figuratively."
Houkan noticed the shying away and it did not shock nor hurt him, his feelings unchanged from how he had been a moment before. Reactions like this had ceased to trouble his heart and emotions, the years of being tormented having made his will strong.
"While I did not make it, my elder brother and cousin tell me that I am the first one in our family's history to have been born with silver eyes. Usually we are born in ways that can be easily concealed through different means, such as hair dye, but my eyes remain this color no matter how we try. Contacts do not hide the hue at all, they simply lose whatever color they were holding the moment they touch my eyes, so it is impossible to disguise them."
He did not sound troubled by that fact as well, as it seemed he had given up long ago on trying to hide his seal. His elder brother and cousin often worried for him over it, but as he grew to be able to express them as 'ice blue' it was not so hard.
"My Grandmother wonders if it means the Devil has more of an interest in me than the others. I can not be too sure, as I have never met him personally."
Was he joking?

She pressed her arm against her stomach and stopped walking, as if it pained her, to give herself time to think. While instinctively she wanted to keep walking- that sick feeling was coming back now- some other instinct was telling her to run. And to not stop running until she forgot she'd ever even met someone who had a pact with the devil.
Still... she wasn't anyone to speak of that, now. "I hope he isn't," she told him finally when she could get up the nerve to walk again. "He's not a very nice person, you know."

"I do not know, so I only tend to listen and believe what legend passes down through the mouth of my family. If silver eyes means an increased interest then perhaps I will be the final member of the contract."
Houkan stopped and looked at Kyrie, suddenly aware that the young girl had shrunk away from him. This reaction too was not uncommon when the talk became more and more focused on the pact or the Devil, and Houkan half-chuckled inwardly as he reminded himself that this is why he lied to people.
He did not like lying, of course, but it prevented incidents like this from occurring on an everyday basis. Usually people were satisfied with being told his eyes were a wondrous shade of ice blue, and who were to argue with genetics? His family name was German after all, and blue eyes were very common in European blood. Perhaps his family had a history of ice blue eyes?
"I apologize if I have bothered you with all of this. Normally it is not in my nature to speak of things relating to my family or the deal, but as you also seem to have eyes that are a result of an inhuman deal I felt it would not be as troublesome. Forgive me if I have presumed too much. I will not speak any further."
Houkan did honestly look apologetic for making Kyrie uneasy with his talk of the Devil, and he turned and motioned with his arm for her to continue to lead the way towards the medical room. He would keep his distance from her, slightly unsure if it was his mere presence now that could drive her even more away.

"I didn't choose this," Kyrie said, perhaps a little louder than she should have. "I mean, I doubt you would have either, but. I don't even want anything out of this. And I just found out I'm not human I'm some kind of reincarnated angel thing and apparently I'm cursed somehow for the rest of eternity and people expect me not to freak out at all."
She paused, and took a deep breath. "And anyway pacts with the Devil are next-to-impossible. I know because Mr. Fauste said so and he'd never, ever lie to me and anyway..." It was the devil-pact that frightened her, she told herself. It wasn't his ability to easily live with the fact that he had no soul. She didn't envy that... not really.

So she was a reincarnated angel? That would explain some things about her, or so Houkan felt at least. She seemed still so ill at ease around him, but now that he knew she was an angel it made far more sense. Angels feared the Devil, no matter what type of angel they were, and Houkan practically wore the Devil's personal seal on his face.
"I am not sure how he managed to actual make a pact like he did, but my ancestral Grandfather did indeed make a deal. As I have said, this silver is the proof of that continued contract. I would say I have wondered about ways to end the contract, but in all honesty I have not. It has become a usual part of my life."
It took him a moment to register that she had said a name, a 'Fauste'. Who was this?
"Mr. Fauste?"

"My employer," she explained, fiddling with the makeshift bandage. "He pays me to find and acquire rare things for him. It's pretty fun, really." With a more comfortable smile- she could tell anyone about resourcing, it was a lot of fun and a safe subject to boot. "It's called resourcing, and basically because of his occupation he can't buy things but he needs them to do his job so I buy them for him. It's a good job."
