Ma's Sugar Cookies-Margaret Waldecker's
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 Tablespoons milk
Sift together all dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Blend in the egg, milk and vanilla. *Roll out on floured board about 1/4" thickness. Cut cookies with cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 400 degrees F. 8-10 minutes (less if your oven runs hot)
Makes 2 1/2-3 dozen. depending on the size of the cutter
*If dough is too sticky refrigerate for 30 mins.-1 hour
