Given that the point of the guild is to consolodate informatrion with which to debunk n00bs, among other things, I suppose I'd like to start. I have a little pet project in mind of one of my extended threads for AMC on the history of manga as influenced by American comics. Now, I know that the first major, modern manga (IE, not 7th or 8th century style woodcuttings) was the book that would become Astro-Boy./ But what, aside from this existed? What evidence can we show that manga as we know it WAS strongly influenced by comic books?
As a side project, I'd also like to start a thread in CD in which J-anime/manga fans who show an interest in trying American comics can give examples of what they like, and we can supply them with Western titles that they should try. That, however, might be a bit more difficult.

Well I think some direct character comparisons would help, like Superman being the archtypal superhero that inspired such things as Goku.

I think this is a great idea. Show all the people who hate comics and think anime is the best that anime and manga came from our (American) animation and comic books. That would really put a dent in the fanboy army.

You could always compare images of Astroboy to early American cartoon characters such as Mickey Mouse (as he was then), Betty Boop, etc.

That sort of thread would be useless in the Comic forum. The manga people don't wander in very often. That thread would have more place and more posts if it were in the manga forum.
