my chorus teacher is planning on putting together an acapella group but doesn't plan to do so till hes done with the musical production called "Smile" that our school is currently doing.
but in choir class we are doing "Im goin' home" its a more southern black american song, its a song probably about escaping slavery to go to the north or during the time of slavery and the people are waiting for a savior to bring them to heaven is what i infer from the lyrics
and another piece we're working on is called In the Still of the Night, originally sung by the 5 Satins whee i love that song, i find 50's - 60's music very romantic campared to what is sung theses days heart

I was in an a capella group my senior year of high school. We were pretty damn good...
I actually miss that group quite a bit.

I have a concert on thursday with Wisconsin State Honors Choir... 4 of the 5 songs we did was ACapella. It was really cool, because there were 100 really great singers and the sound was so full, you didn't really need instruments. Not to mention the fact that it was auditioned and the parts were BALANCED. Yes.. not only did we have tenors who could sing... we could subdivide them into high tenors and low tenors! Prodigious! Singing with so many people can be pretty powerful stuff... I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about our sound.... -sigh-
But If anyone out there's ever sung with a chamber choir or a vocal jazz choir, you know how awesome it is to have like 2 or 3 people on a part. Yeeeah... I love chamber choir ^^
Can't forget barbershop. The one reason why I wish i was a boy. -sigh-
PS- Anyone out there ever sing "Sleep" by Eric Whitacre? Absolutely stunning acapella piece ^^

Absolutely stunning acapella piece ^^ mmm, I love Sleep. We sang that last year and tried to talk our director into letting us sing it for State, but he said we couldn't because it's too popular right now. Which ended up being true, there were like, 4 or 5 choirs that sang that piece in our division alone. But yes, I love Eric Whitacre's stuff, he's an amazing composer.

I love a capella pieces, and choirs always have to work extra hard on them, since there's no instruments to back them up. It's lovely.
