Cat Gross Contemporary Fiction March 23, 2009 Noise From experience, I’ve noticed that I tend to focus better when I have some kind of background noise going on, be it music or talking, in any number of forms. Others are unable to focus with such sounds, which creates an interesting question of the importance of noise in the background of day to day life. Why do some need this noise while others can do without? Don DeLillo’s novel White Noise deals with background noises of everyday life. It seems to be used as a tool to immerse Jack into the world of everyday life.
