Okay. I just saw the words: "Flying Spagetti Monster" on the Ramadan thread. (what it was doing there, I dont know. Providing us with a nice tomato and herb sauce?) I was just wondering. What the hell is it? I Have seen it before, in a dull Latin lesson many years ago. I searched it on Google, and found a church with a god that is a giant, floating ball of spagetti with eyes....
Is this satire on religion by ignorant and angry atheists? Or is this actually a faith? There's a Jedi church around 20 miles away from me, but I'm not even going there....

Ahh... The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster...
(cracks knuckles and begins typing frantically)
A couple of years ago, the Kansas School Board voted to include the "Intelligent Design Theory" which basically says the world was created in a period of days or weeks by a deity or deities, along with Darwin's "Theory of Evolution."
The school board tried to be religiously tolerant on this Intelligent Design taught in schools, trying to include a myriad of religions. Mainly focusing on Judeo-Christian-Muslim belief system that HASHEM created the world in 7 days, and hinting on Native American, Hindu, Greco-Roman and Nordic mythologies.
This led a man named Bobby Henderson, to write an open letter to the Kansas School Board to help hear yet another viewpoint on Intelligent Design and Creationism. He stated in his letter that he had text, which stated a super being, which manifested itself as a large amorphous pile of spaghetti and meatballs, appeared over Earth and touched a mountain with one of it's noodles. Causing trees to sprout from the mountain and people to sprout from the trees.

The letter was posted on the internet, the media in Kansas took notice, then the world noticed, and people realized that this was an opportunity to show disdain for religious ideals being taught in public schools and religion being used as a guide for public policy.
Thus the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was formed.
The members of the church, or as they like to be called, Pastafarians, basically make sport of organized religion and holy rollers. Pastafarians do not wish to be taught about religion, they can make it up just as easily as their go along.
In short, it's an atheist church that supports atheism in society.

Behatzlacha-S Great. So the satire thing? I can't help but just think... who in there right minds s up with a god thats a floating spagetti? Someone who wants to make fun of actual religiously minded people. We believe and hold faith in HASHEM they, hold faith in a magic noodle dish, it's degrading to HASHEM to hold a flying spaghetti monster above him, and it breaks the first Commandment. That's why they do it.

That's why they do it. It's satirical and derisive of accepted social norms. Although technically this is insulting to jews as well as other religions it isn't aimed directly at jews but probably more at Christianity (the religion taught in some of the schools) Sad to say but technically if they believe in one god (even a spaghetti monster) they are keeping with the 7 Noachide laws and are actually commendable over those who believe in the trinity. Weird huh?
