Welcome to Barton Arboretum, a park maintained by the GVGS (Gaia Vegetative Genetics Study) for the public! This park is open to all, as long as you abide by the following rules. If you are interested in adopting a plant, come visit the Adoption Office. Have fun!

RP should be formal. That means in third person.

Please preface all new threads with one of these labels:
[ORP] - Open Roleplay. Open to anyone, public and pets included.
[PRP] - Private Roleplay. Only those who are specified in the first post may rp here. Guild members ONLY, unless a staff member invites you.
[RRP] - Restricted Roleplay. Only Staff may rp here.
[Journal] - If you wish to have a journal for your plant. Only the author may post here, unless they specify otherwise.

Oh yes, RPing here before the flatsale will give us a chance to see your roleplaying in action. Which could be a good thing. But ONLY in ORP threads! *hinthint*

Trail Guide

Welcome to Barton Arboretum. Please abide by these rules while inside the park.

1. No littering. Clean up all trash. Picnic area users are responsible for cleaning the area when through.

2. All pets must be leashed or under voice command at all times.

3. Pick up after your pets! Pet waste baskets are provided along the trail for your convenience.

4. Leave what you find for others to enjoy. Please respect the park and its visitors; refrain from taking plants or artifacts home with you.

Enjoy your visit!

The Quad - This is an open, grassy area for pets to play. Many people come to Barton Arboretum to have a place to play wiht their pets, so we decided to put the pet-park right by the gate! There is also convenient access to the swimming hole from the back corner - just follow the trail! Most of the plants found here will be in landscaped beds of flowers, along with the occasional shade-tree.

South Bottom - The southern side of the River bank is moist and shady, where many large bottomland hardwoods can be found. Some spots on the trail can be a little muddy, so keep watch!

North Bottom - The northern side of the River bank is also moist and flat, but gets somewhat more sun than the southern bank. There are lots of rocky outcrops into the river that are good spots to hike and play, so the trail runs right along the side of the river for a good stretch.

The Hill - Sloping steeply from the North Bottom all the way up to the North Arbor is an area we like to call the Hill. Upland hardwoods grow here, along with a few pine species toward the top of the slope. The trails in this part of the woods are windy with many switchbacks to avoid erosion; please stay on the trail and don't cut across!

North Arbor - What better place to lounge in full sun than the very top of a hill? With nothing to overshadow it, this is the perfect place for one of our two greenhouses. There are also pine stands and open clearings with benches here for anyone who wants to come and sit or sunbathe. But don't forget, you've got a steep climb to get there!

The Glen - Many say this is the most soothing and mystical place in the arboretum. The glen is a cool, shady area often immersed in fog. The ground is covered with a lush undergrowth of ferns and other herbaceous plants like jewelweed and nettle. Be careful if you wander off the path! Those nettles hurt.

The Orchard - Trees are planted here in rows. Every year, we collect either fruits or seeds from them, depending on the species. Visitors are welcome to snack on any ripe fruit they like, as long as they read the signs to make sure a fruit is edible.

South Arbor - The southern-most area in the entire arboretum, the South Arbor is home to our largest greenhouse. Many breeding experiments are done in the South Arbor Greenhouse. Around it stand many large old trees, but much of the understory has been cleared away to give the arbor an open feeling. It almost looks as if it was built on a former homesite...

Plant growth is RP-based. This means you must RP your plant to have it grow. When you RP, the GM (that's Songjewel) or an assistant GM will award you Experience Points (XP) and Care Points (CP) based on the adventures you participate in and the way you care for your plant. The system may seem a little complicated at first, but it's really quite simple, I promise. Yes, Total means you add up your XP and CP.

Total = XP + CP

Here's what you will need:

To grow to Child:
Total: 150 points or more
XP: >50 points
CP: >50 points

To grow to Teenager:
Total: 350
XP: >150
CP: >100

To grow to Adult:
Total: 650
XP: >250
CP: >200

What makes a good RP post?
You should use proper English grammar and spelling, naturally. But more than that, you need to be descriptive and creative. Simply walking in every day, watering your pet, and spraying Miracle-gro on it will not gain you CP very fast. You should come visit and have conversations with your plant. Talk to him or her, maybe take them for a walk around the grounds. Perhaps let your other pets and your plant play on the Quad, go for little trips, etc.

For XP, you will have to participate in the adventures the staff plan. Our first adventure is coming up soon after the first flatsale!

Care and Feeding

Each of the following will gain you CP, if your plant needs it. Too much of any treatment is harmful, and some plants do not need certain things. You can use the internet to find out specific things your plant likes. If you think something else you've done should gain you points, point it out to me and I'll gladly take a look. There are endless things you can do for your plant. ^^

Multiple
Watering - 5
Weeding - 10
Pruning (if applicable) - 20
Journal Entries - 5

Once
Nitrogen Fertilization - 10
Phosphorus Fertilization - 10
Acidic Fertilization - 10
Setting up a Formal Journal - 25
Filling in First Post - 10

First person diary/journal entries will count as XP, not CP. You must actually RP your character doing these things to your plant for them to count, whether you do it in your Journal thread or in an RP thread.

Add to the list!
