I have my level 70 mage in 4/5 brutal now and I finally have a team decent enough to get shoulders.

My question is... locks in the same gear as me almost always school me. In merciless I can nuke them without losing half my health, but in brutal gear it always comes down to the wire.

I'm 17/0/44 and I've got into the habit of focusing the pet and imp csing him to allow myself a shatter combo then ibing the moment I'm fully dotted and spell locked to allow myself the maximum time spamming frostbolt without much trouble since that's where a frost mages dps obviously lies against another caster class.

Problem is, I get them to about 10% hp and no matter what hp I'm on I can't seem to down that last few k of hp quicker than their dots nuke my 8k of remining hp.

Depends on what spec the lock is. If it is demonology, then you may want to worry about the felguard, but most people are either going to have a felhunter or succubus (for affliction/destruction) to tease people around with from what I've found. They don't do much unless the felhunter gets on your healer (if you run with a healer in the team). Otherwise, focus on the warlock itself. You save some mana and get two birds with one stone.

Stay away from them? It should be quite easy.

Or...

Um...Take advantage of the terrain? First, sheep the lock and annihilate his pet, which shouldn't even be that mana-draining. Hopefully, if the lock doesn't have anything that can break cc, he'll stay a sheep long enough.

Hit him with a frostbolt, and what I'D do is quickly pull of a Fire Blast ( I don't know why I can't. Everyone says its a useless spell as a Frost Mage but it does heavy damage and it's an instant cast! ) Which both should take about 5-6k of his health, depending on the amount of +spell damage you have from gear. When the dots start to fly, Ice Barrier and Fire Ward ( Since Immolate is considered a fire damage spell ) but Fire Ward only if he manages to pull off a Immolate, which he shouldn't...

Counterspell him when you get the chance and pummel him with attacks. The second time he starts dotting you, quickly pop out Water Elemental then Ice Block, but don't stay in it too long. A smart person would try to bandage themselves while your in it. Then what I'd do is I'd freeze him, but use the Elemental's freeze first. Then if you were me, I wouldn't go for the shatter combo, I'd use Invisibilty and hide behind a wall or something that can LoS. The moment I hit it and I leave combat, Manna Biscuit for a few seconds, run out from my hiding place and just pummel him with everything I have.

But this is what I'D do. I don't care if someone else tells me its wrong, thats YOUR way. This is MY way.

>Try keeping Ice Barrier on at all times, without draining your mana.
>Take advantage of the surroundings.
>Why does no one ever think about Polymorph?
>Elemental BEFORE Ice Block, to maximize your DPS even while immobile.
>Use Invisibility to your advantage since if it works, gets you out of combat.
>If all else fails, respec deep Frost.

This was my old build.

If the team is at a point where they're competing for the rating for s4 shoulders, sheep will be useless. No arena-er with a rating that high is going to be without his trinket. In pvp, sheep lasts MAXIMUM 10 seconds. In a real game with good gear, a sheep will never ever last the full 10 seconds. There are talents and sometimes even set bonuses that decrease the time you are CC'd for. Mages don't rely on sheep because 99% of the time you can barely get a single spell off before the damn thing is broken.
You sound like someone who has never arenad before. I understand you may have had good intentions to help the OP but if you don't know what you're talking about, don't bother trying to help.

Forget about the trinket, you forgot that warlocks can dispel themselves with their felhunter.

1v1 you will have to get lucky versus a warlock.

Basically I need to know your comp to help you any. :/

I will have to let you know that first of all Locks have a hard time....Cast times are horrible by the time the dots take you down we will be busted dead.....Maybe...Okay not always...sometimes...Okay the point is that one of the things you have to understand is we are not over powered. When one Race it being owned the other says they are very over powered. We are all over powered. You just have to learn not your toon but the toon your fighting.

The only advice I can give is this:

I'm not terribly experienced in Arenas with my Warlock, but the case is usually this: The more experienced the Class, the tougher a time you're going to have of killing said Class. In my opinion, Arenas are purely based on experience and tactics.

However, that's just my opinion, and people can disagree with me if you really want to. All I know is that my Warlock is terrible in PvP because of his spec.

Talent spec. Experience. Race.
