Here is what I think about the history of the Nippon Ichi Games:
First the Kingdom of Marl had happened [ Rhapsody ] then after that the World Ivoire had formed with Phantoms , Chroma's , Ravens etc. Soon after Ivoire , King Krichevskoy had become Overlord of the netherworld. Soon after that he and his wife gave birth to Laharl who became the Prince of the netherworld and at the same time Prier and culotte had joined the Church of the Holy Maiden. Thousands of years after that a new Netherworld was formed with Zetta as it's overlord...is this correct...?

I know Phantom Brave occurs only a few years before Makai Kingdom, and Disgaea takes place sometime before Phantom Brave.

Isn't Etna obtainable at some point in phantom brave? (maybe flonne, too...I'm not sure) So, it'd only make sense if PB was after Disgaea.

You can get Laharl , Etna , Flonne and Mid-boss in Phantom Brave...so I suppose Phantom Brave was after Disgaea and La Pucelle... sweatdrop It just get's complicated because of the extra characters that you can get. So then who is Asagi...he is from Makai Kingdom , but I have not seem him in any of the nippon ichi games...

So then who is Asagi...he is from Makai Kingdom , but I have not seem him in any of the nippon ichi games... Asagi is supposedly from an upcoming game. According to an interview in the players guide Asagi is from a canceled title (Makai Wars, maybe).

disgaea and phantom brave take place about the same time because at the end of phantom brave when you fighter laharl, he mentions just fighting priere (can be done any time in disgaea), la pucelle takes place before disgaea because of priere being a extra character and rhapsody takes place before them because of marjoly (extra in disgaea) and myao (extra in phantom brave) and some of the characters that work at the item shop in la pucelle

According to Makai Kingdom and an episode in Disgaea, there are an abundance of netherworlds, and the fact that a plethora of characters are available in Makai Kingdom due to going back in time and traversing across dimensions means that Makai Kingdom doesn't necessarily have to take place after any of the games. Though, it does make sense that it takes place after Phantom Brave since Marona and Castille are much stronger and are in search of Walnut and what not.

With the exception of La Pucelle tactics, which came out after Disgaea in America but obviously takes place before disgaea, the games in the "NIS universal timeline" came out in order of when they happened, but where is obviously always different.
