Well, I have just researched the web about that and its common in older dogs. if it gets to the point there he is "gasping" for air then i think you should take him to the vets just to be sure his heart is okay ect.
i wish i could help more but i think its "old age"

PS: welcome to TFCG xp

But yup yup i agree with Marie. Take him to the vet to make sure his heartz okidoki. Also yes make sure he's taking all of his meds that'd prolly help a great deal. :3
Hope your doggeh feelz a bit better x3

I would recommend taking your baby back to the vet. There are definitely meds that would help both the breathing and the arthritis, but those treatments need to be individualized to your pet.

I have never met a vet that bites (my patients however....) If he or she has said something you don't understand, just ask! Sometimes it is hard for us to explain everything in a way that the average person can understand, but we can try. If your vet won't do this for you, find a new vet that is more communicative, maybe even another vet in the same practice.

Lung stiffening is common in older dogs and can cause noisy or labored breathing and increased panting. This is usually diagnosed by x-rays. Sometimes giving a steroid can ease the symptoms.

Heart problems are also common in older dogs. Vets usually diagnose problems by listening to the sounds of the heart, x-rays, and ultrasounds done by a specialist. There are medications available that can help the heart work better. Heart disease can also cause secondary disease in the lungs, so if your dog is having trouble breathing, and is known to have a heart condition, a trip to the vet is definitely in order.

Have you tried giving your dog some glucosamine? There is a good product called "The Missing Link" that I really like.

Cavs are one of my favorite small dogs! They are really nice. But do be sure to have their hearts checked regularly. A large percentage of them have heart disease and could benefit from medication. I hope your babies are just fine!
