Harry Potter has no idea how famous he is. That's because he's being raised by his miserable aunt and uncle who are terrified Harry will learn that he's really a wizard, just as his parents were. But everything changes when Harry is summoned to attend an infamous school for wizards, and he begins to discover some clues about his illustrious birthright. I will admit that I did read this book if only to know why the hype was there. In my idea the hype was misfounded. It’s an okay book, but meh, it shouldn’t have been as popular as it was. It’s like the frizbee or the yoyo - fad today, gone tomorrow.
Honestly, I don’t see the point of this hype. The writing is average and the story idea has been done before by other authors. I will tell you though, after reading the first 3 books in the series, there’s a remarkable change in the third - by that I mean, you can see the wheels of the author’s mind spinning and thinking, “I should pad out my book more.”
If you are to read anything she has written, the first two books seem the best as they are geared more towards the child’s mind (even though the author refuses to admit it, you can’t change fact), and aren’t as dark as she later made them as well as everything ties in neatly within neater and shorter books.
Edit:
I also read it under the correct Title of Philospher's Stone. Apparently American publishers thought American kids were stupid and wouldn't understand the concept of Philopher's Stone.
