Thanks! mrgreen
That sounds great but, can any of your characters actually teleport without anything of the sort? As I mentioned before, one of mine knows a spell that allows him to do that. However, explaining how the spell works is another story: I'm not sure how to do so exactly... sweatdrop

You know, I saw a show about the universe and how it could be possible for a ship to be faster than light but, to make a person faster than light? That seems very far fetched to me, he-he. Gateways sounds more plausible, just FYI. wink

So it's like a million magnets, eh? Hmm, that doesn't seem to make sense to me though... confused I gotta give it to ya, the concept behind it does sound pretty original so Kudos on that one!

Oh! When you put it that way, well... it does sound a heck of a lot better and understandable. 3nodding Say, do you see that planet as a living being of sorts? Cuz if so, then it's easy to see where you got the inspiration for that. As long as you have read Marvel and/or DC comics. mrgreen

Another concept that follows planets being "alive" and such is the real-life theory of ley lines. They are the great energy sources that flow just beneath the planet's crust... supposedly that is. I could easily imagine a character tapping into that current-style energy and using it to travel along a planet, or to hop to another planet.
Also, the folding of the fabric of space works nicely as a sci-fi styled explanation. I've heard similar ones to it. Like using another plane of existance to move from one place to another (like nightcrawler in x men) and I tend to favor a mix of the two above options.
For short-distance or same-world travel the ley line energy can be used as a portal to transport the consciousness and body rapidly from point A to point B. However, for inter-planetary styled travel (Like from Earth to Sarian in my current story) the planes actually have areas that intersect (somewhat like ley lines, only on a more massive scale, and more temporal depending on the destination) which can be used as portals from one plane to the next. Depending on the style it can also be a roundabout/sneaky way to skip to another place on the same world through the connections it has with other worlds.
It probably seems like a bunch of random stuff, but I believe in energy so it makes sense to me even though I don't know how to explain it very well... Feel free to ask questions...

I believe there are 2 different types of teleportation. There is the physical "teleportation" which we could theorize about through science. But, since this is a fantasy guild, I'll stay on topic and talk about the magical teleportation we commonly find in fantasy.
I don't think there is a general rule of how should teleportation work in fantasy, since the rules of a non-existent world are made up by each author. However, we may come up with "logical" explanations of how it might work.
In the case of magic, I believe the most common logistic of how it works, is that it manipulates "reality." So, using magic would mean that you are altering the properties of such reality in order for it to become real. I could go deeper in this subject, but I'll go straight to the point. In order to teleport magically, you would have to alter the real coordinates of an object and assign it new ones. In which case, assigning known coordinates will most likely provide expected results. However, assigning random or unknown coordinates, would end up in unexpected results. Guessing is possible; but, the more information you have about the destination, the more possible a succesful teleportation will be.

I think your views are pretty cool Ellia! Thanks for posting. I know exactly how you feel about trying to explain things from your stories. Whenever I want to explain how the modification of the human body works in my sci-fi story, I just don't know how to go about it. I just know that astronauts who have their bodies modified for space travel no longer need to eat or go to the bathroom; they don't even need to sleep for as long as we do either! Lair Argyra I believe there are 2 different types of teleportation. There is the physical "teleportation" which we could theorize about through science. But, since this is a fantasy guild, I'll stay on topic and talk about the magical teleportation we commonly find in fantasy. I see it as if you could somehow make distant irrelevant, you could transport anywhere. As if by casting a spell, you make it so that two locations that are very further apart could be right next to each other; then you'd just have to barely move and you're there in the blink of an eye.
